the best room in the house
Is it the kitchen with its wonderful aromas and goodies
Or is it the front porch, where guests flock to visit on summer nights
Maybe it's the cozy bedroom, when you are snuggling deep under the covers on winter mornings.
With gracious text and enchanting images, Newbery Medalist Cynthia Rylant and acclaimed illustrator Wendy Anderson Halperin invite readers home to remind us why there's no place like it! Cynthia Rylant is one of my favorite Children's authors.
She has a lovely writing style, and her stories are familiar and comforting, This is one of our favorites the illustrations and amazingly fun and detailed, This is a beautiful picture book read aloud for your children! I loved how the author took us through the special places around our home, giving each room its significance and calling to attention a special moments that maybe we take for granted.
I loved the illustrations and the birdseye view format of each page and I think youll love it to! We are big fans of sitelinkCynthia Rylant's books and when I saw the cover of this book, it reminded me strongly of her collaboration with sitelinkWendy Anderson Halperin on the sitelinkCobble Street Cousins series.
The story is short and the setting is very quaint, I loved the depictions of the house, but I have to admit that I've never seen any home quite like that, Still, it does show that it's the love, togetherness and people inside the home that make it wonderful, not the possessions or the size of it.
I always wanted a nice attic space like what is described here, Maybe someday we'll have to make our attic more useable,
Overall, it's a nice story that would be fun to read with younger children, A fun book to help little ones learn the different rooms of a house, The pictures should also intrigue readers who like to peruse every detail of the illustrations, I was also pleased at the numerous references to dogs and cats I loved the illustrations and story, Really, I love books like this that show quaint people, houses, family and places, The only thing I didn't like about it was the reference to coffee and tea, but that's only because we don't drink those so reading to my children I had to add parenthetically that we don't choose to drink things like that.
I'm tremendously enjoying this journey through children's illustrated books, Cynthia Rylant, another Newbery award winner for Missing May, has published many lovely children's books,
This one is wonderful!
While each page is packed with details that could at first seem overwhelming, when I took time to slowly study the images, I was in awe of the lovely details.
With the talent of a seasoned writer and illustrated by Wendy Anderson Halperin this team is a winning combination,
This is a journey through each room of a house and it includes special detailed images of unique items,
I like this book so much I may purchase it as gifts for beloved children in my life,. loved it!
Not everything that is named is in the illustrations which is a pet peeve of mine so I'm taking off half a star but what a wonderful book! Pairing Cynthia Rylant and Wendy Anderson Halperin is perfection.
Rich, lush, gentle, and beautiful, Let's take a tour of one of the loveliest houses you've ever seen, It's a lot like yours, I'm sure, as it focuses on what makes it all so special, from smells, to tastes, to people, to pets.
Bliss. Another perfect book to read to your little ones when they're snuggled into bed, The words are wonderful that way, The other half of the magic The illustrations! Browsing them is the perfect way to pass a summer afternoon on the couch,
I thought it was a gem, My six year old didn't like that it only talked about one houseI guess the idea was lost on her but I found myself pouring over the illustrations and soaking them up.
Another incredibly unique idea that turned out well, The illustrations are from a variety of perspectives, though I dont love the illustrations themselves, Very detailed. One hitch, this is not a “typical” situation Rylant describes, so that may be tricky to have in a classroom, This book shows that there are many types of houses, No matter which type of house it is its whats inside that makes it a home, These houses have porches, living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and attics, Living rooms and kitchens bring the family together, Bathrooms are interesting you can find out a lot about a person by what you find in their bathroom, Bedrooms keep us sheltered and give us a place where we are allowed to dream, While attics hold our memories from the past, I really loved the illustrations in the book and the way that it showed the home, All the pictures had so much detail and really made for an fun reading experience, I especially loved how the book showed that even though the house is very cool and interesting, it is the love and family within the house that matters and not the material possession.
Evocative of a soft, wellworn quilt, this book shares all that is special about home, Going room by room, Rylant shares the simplest pleasures, from sitting quietly in front of the fireplace, to watching birds feed outside the window while standing at the kitchen sink.
A lovely, sweet book. This book has wonderful cozy illustrations of a home, But this book presents a very narrow imagining of what a home should be, The first page shows all different kinds of homes from around the world, but it precedes to tell you about one kind of home, an upper middle class American home.
This level of idealism would be hard to compete with even if you were raised in the happiest of homes, I loved this book! Mostly for the pictures, but the text is very sweet, too, By the time I was finished reading, I wanted
to go visit the home and the people who live there explore the cluttered attic full of memories, smell the lavender soap in the bathroom, make cookies in the kitchen, sip coffee snuggled up on the living room sofa.
. . sit on the porch and daydream, Of course, part of the charm for me may be that I love looking at other people's homes it's fun to see new neighborhoods and the architecture and landscaping and all the nuances added and it's so nice to visit someone's home for the first time and discover all the ways they are a perfect match.
This book is quite charming and sweet, My kids love exploring the scenes on each page and often zone out as I read, During this pandemic, as we've spent many hours in our own kitchen, living room, and attic, it's fun to compare to the house presented here.
Absolutely gorgeously illustrated book all about the family home and the wonders they can hold, This is a sweet, idealistic book about the different rooms in a home, The tone of the story was pleasant, Really enjoyed the illustrations. Such a warm, sweet book, We got it as a housewarming gift to send to friends who had moved outoftown and liked it so much we got our own copy.
Oh, I love this book, Really love it. I adore the artist and the author, both, The tag line is "the wonderful things about a house", and that's exactly what the book is about, I'm pretty excited because I just realized that I can use this in my classroom next year when we do our introductory unit on ourselves, our family, our homes.
I'm pretty stoked about that, One more Cynthia Rylant book that I just love! She writes about each room in a house and why each one is wonderful, She shows that it's not really about the house, but the living that goes on inside that makes it special, I like this book a lot, but it made me feel kind of weird because not all houses have the same things this house does.
I would give this book two and a half,
The illustrations of the unique, wonderful house are like nothing I've seen in picture book literature, Cynthia Rylant's vibrant prose brings the images to life, taking us by the hand and lovingly showing what makes a house wonderful, Her perceptive commentary make this one of the better picture books I've read, Sweet and cozy. The illustrations are everything here, There's no way to make a room by room, journey through a house universal, . . only one home I ever lived in, for example, has an attic, . . but there's lots for lots of people living in lots of houses to relate to, An author of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry for children and young adults as well as an author and author/illustrator of picture books for children, Cynthia Rylant is recognized as a gifted writer who has contributed memorably to several genres of juvenile literature.
