Then again, not much makes sense anymore after waking up and finding myself not in bed but on a strange world populated by aliens. Since that moment, I’ve learned that nothing is normal anymore and I’ve got to roll with the punches. I can handle this, though. I’m strong and capable.
So… washed up on a tropical island? Got it handled.
Separated from the others in my group? Handled.
Stranded alone with a brutal but delicious alien man that can’t speak English but has great… ahem… body language? Yup, handled.
Add in the fact that my cootie – a symbiont I need to survive – has chosen my big, hulking alien friend as my fated mate? Let’s just say that the situation isn’t the only thing that’s going to be handled.
But it isn’t long before I learn that the tropical island paradise is a death trap and we’re all in grave danger, aliens and humans alike. To survive this, I'll need my tempting guy to give me a hand with the situation… good thing he's got four of them.
This romance features all of the adventure, humor and community you’ve come to expect in the Ice Planet Barbarians series, but it stands on its own. You do not need to read the other series (or be caught up) in order to read LAUREN'S BARBARIAN.
Laurens Barbarian (Icehome, #1) Reviews
-
There is only one word that come to mind when I think about this book -
The Icehome series is reviving our barbarian tribe by mixing it up a little bit. Ruby introduced to us sixteen new human females and four new alien males in this series. But that's not all! She introduced some new clans made up from some decedents of the Sakh - The Clan of the Strong Arm, The Clan of the Tall Horn, and the Clan of the Shadowed Cat. Some of the newbies have already paired up, so I am sure this series will be just as lengthy as Ice Planet Barbarians. Yay!
I have seen some reviews ranting that this is the same series as IPB. I understand their frustration, but this is just the first book. Chill out! They have to have their cootie to survive; if Ruby did away with them, then the foundation of the tribe would just be one big lie. Also, this is a paranormal romance, so there has to be resonance. I'm not sure what you were expecting. Once the newbies are educated and stable, I'm sure the basics will change and grow. However, I am not going to complain about the IPB characters crashing the IceHome series. I mean, how funny was Liz at the beginning of this book? I just love her!
All-in-all, this series is going to be just brilliant. Ruby has laid some serious groundwork to build upon. I can't wait for the next book!
4 Stars! -
DNF - 50%
I'm sorry, I can't do this. Getting to 50% of the book was hard work.
I love Ruby Dixon, I really do, but this is the same story all over again. With four arms instead of two. Four arms. Four. No matter how I look at it, that's not sexy.
To all my four arms-loving friends out there, good for you. This is not my cup of tea. -
Wonderful Barbarian Spin-off!

The heroine: Lauren - she is awoken from a pod and told that she was abducted by aliens and now must live on the ice planet. Her and several other females and even some male aliens were in the pods and found by the group of barbarians and their human mates on the ice planet.
The Hero: K'Thar - he is large, blue, has 4 arms, horns and a tail. He is the leader of his clan called Strong Arm which is very small. All the females and some of the males were killed when the volcano erupted.
The Story: Lauren and another woman from the pods are caught in a fire on the ship they arrive on, which landed on the edge of an ocean. They are able to break free of the ship and hide out in the pod which floats in the ocean to another land on the ice planet. The place they land is tropical and though they are on the ice planet, only it keeps getting warmer all the time, because the volcano is active and in danger of erupting again.
I haven’t yet finished all of the Ice Planet Barbarian books, but this Icehome spinoff seems like it will be a good one. Not only were there a few different varieties of Alien males in the pods on the crashed spaceship, but now some of the women have traveled to a new place that is tropical and beautiful with several clans of different aliens and entirely new problems to solve.
It is too bad the audiobooks for this series aren’t available on my libby app. I refuse to pay full price for audiobooks, because they are way too expensive for something that is over in less than 10 hours. Though if I stay on this alien kick I am on for a while, I may get on KU and just read the series.
The narration was dual narration and the book was told in both K’Thar and Lauren’s points of view. It was narrated by Felicity Munro and Sean Crisden who do a good job. Of course there was a language barrier when the two main characters first meet, but they get through it before the end of the book.

When I want some light, fun and enjoyable read I pick up a BBB one! LOL
We're used to the ice plante with freezing temperatures, but here we have a tropical island with hot climate, palm trees and some very different BBBs! :)
Some have 4 arms, some are cat-like, some have really big horns!
The hero here has 4 arms and is part of the Strong Arm clan (pun intended!).
The core of the story is always the same: girl meets a BBB, they have communication problems (that parts are hilarious as always!), they fall in love and mate!
But it's the resolution that is great and here it's spot on!
The writing is easy to read and their interaction is endearing and sweet. So, if you want to relax and melt, do read this! :) -
Personal opinion: Ruby Dixon needs to move on from this series. It's getting infuriating having to read about the "cootie" for 25+ books. EVERY BOOK is the same exact plot. EVERY BOOK you have to painstakingly wait for the heroine to get her shit together and accept her situation and the hero's love- and the heroine is usually insufferable and annoying. This is a "spin off" of the same series but you still have to go through chapters and chapters of the new heroines thought process. It honestly makes me want to pull my hair out.

This series is getting better and better. I love how their worlds are expanding and what a good job Ruby dixon has done with series. I never thought there will be more different people in Ice planet when I first started reading this.
I liked the idea of new clans she created along with the people. And her heros are always gold. Heroines not so much. Her imagination and the way book was written was interesting.
Still I have some complaints. Like how selfishly some of the characters behave ( or portrayed). For example in this book when Lo tried to help Marisol by dragging her away from the sky-claw , she slapped her hard ,she wanted to go near her mate. And I wonder to do what? And she didn’t apologize for that. Similar things happened previously too. Like in Kira’s book claire snapping at her when asked about her night time visits. She came across as a rude girl. As a result I didn’t like her so I didn’t read her book. Lets not forget about infamous Asha. And tiffany bad decisions.sometimes the heroine’s whining is very annoying(talking about whole series here). Like stacy in her book. In this it was Marisol. Clearly time was running out and they needed every hand they get . And instead of helping the clan, Marisol was simply sitting and crying near her mate. And her fondness for hiding irritated me so much. Not responding while she hides!! Ughh just like my 2 year old son🙄🙄. Another thing is everybody are envious of others. Some for silly things. For example Lo was envious of a bird because her mate was petting said bird in distress. Really?!!
I think I’m petty like that.
But still I will read more from this author and this series. -
I am so addicted to this series! 😋😋 The world Ruby has created is amazing and it keeps evolving. I wish I would have read the rest of the IPB first before starting this though. I made it through this just fine but there were little moments when I felt like I was missing something. Nothing major though. It didn't interfere with my enjoyment and understanding of the book.

4.5 Stars
If you haven’t read any Ruby Dixon books, you can start with this one or if you are like me and are a fan, but you finished the Ice Planet Barbarians series, then this book is also good to start reading.
A bit of the history is in the Ice Planet Barbarians, but she does a lot of recapping so you can understand. In this book we go back to the roots.
I wouldn’t think listening to these books via audio would be great only because I find these books smutty, but to my surprise I really liked the audio. I found myself listening to the books when I usually don’t listen to audio books.
The female narrator is pretty good. I like her voice and her acting is good. I didn’t mind her voice transitions and I think I liked the book a lot more because of her. I REALLY liked the male voice. It’s really deep and usually I don’t like deep voices, but I really liked it in this one. I just felt like the Hero would have a deep voice he is alien come on. There’s not much POV on his side, but I do like that we get it.
Lauren is washed up ashore and lands on an Island. On that island is an alien and his small tribe. The only thing is, they don’t speak the same language but they figure it out.
Had I been reading this book instead of listening I’m not sure I would have liked it as much. There’s a lot of lead up and world building before you get to the heart of the story. I mean Laruen has to get trapped in a pod, then thrown to sea and then finally land on the alien. I didn’t mind it in audio, but I can see where it can be a bit slow in the beginning.
I like how different this one is. I like that the world is warm, that the food is scare and that the people are different. The Hero has 4 arms! I know get ready for it.
If you are a fan of Ruby Dixon, then you won’t be disappointed. -
I loved seeing the origin of the other tribes! And the dynamic between Lauren and K'Thar was really great-- ugh, I love Ruby Dixon main characters. I love that the heroines are always self-determined and that the heros are always cinnamon rolls underneath whatever alien limbs they've got going on

Overall Opinion: This was cute, and I do think it was nice to get away from the characters from the previous books some. But, I do think that it fell a little flat for me. There was a lot of other stuff going on that I felt like the romance was a side topic. That was disappointing, but I get it. I think maybe the other books in this spinoff series will be better, and it was also fun to get away from my usual genre and break up my usual reads. I didn't hate it -- but I just didn't really love it either.
Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Lo and K'Thar's story. Lo finds herself waken up on a new planet with a whole new reality. She somehow gets separated from the other humans and finds herself on an island and her new parasite that helps her live on the planet has made her "resonate" with her true mate K'Thar. K'Thar's clan is only made up of a few after a disaster took out most of the habitants of the island, so he is eager to start rebuilding his clan with Lo. There is a communication barrier they have to work through, some sexy times, and some suspenseful moments...and they get a HFN ending.
POV: This alternated between Lo and K'Thar's POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well. The ending did feel a little abrupt though.
Instalove: No, but they "resonate" pretty quickly.
H rating: 4 stars. K'thar. I liked him. His family history was sad, but I liked the way he cared for others.
h rating: 4.5 stars. Lo. I liked her a lot. She's probably one of my favorite hs from this author actually! She was smart, sweet, and kept her head on straight in times of crisis.
Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed
Push/Pull: Not really
Heat level: Okay. They have some okay tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story (not as hot as some of the other books I've read in this series either).
Descriptive sex: Yes
OW/OM drama: No
Sex scene with OW or OM: No
Cheating: No
Separation: No
Possible Triggers: Not really...except being abducted my aliens 👽 😳 😂
Closure: This didn't have that much closure tbh. I get that it is the start of a new spinoff series, but I wanted more closure for the couple! I would call this a HFN ending.
Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers -
Lauren and K'Thar
This the beginning of the new series “Icehome" and if you have read all the “Ice Planet Barbarians” books, you will know that many new human females and a few aliens have been added to the mix of the Ice Planet.
Two females have unfortunately been lost in the sea and fortunately they will not die but they will end up at the tropical island which I am sure all fans were dying to find out its purpose since the first books of the “Ice Planet Barbarians” series. Well, apparently it is inhabited and it is home of a number of tribes of blue Barbarians which are not exactly the same with our well known species. For instance one of the two missing girls, Lauren, will be finally mated with a four-arms guy, K'Thar, who by the way is a true sweetheart and a hottie.
The tribes are called:
1. The Clan of the Strong Arm,
2. The Clan of the Tall Horn, and
3. The Clan of the Shadowed Cat
And more or less are well defined by their names.
Well, don't get too attached to the island because there is a scary volcano in the middle of it and it is about to go “boom!”
Very soon the few members of the tribes and the two human girls will need to escape back to the icy part of the planet. You may shed a tear there for the poor refugees.
A very strong start to the new series, but I was keep wondering why and how K'Thar and the rest of the inhabitants of the island have the parasite khui. I thought that the main purpose of it is to protect from the cold and there was no cold at the island. -

I gotta get me a time-share condo in Icehome!
Ruby Dixon's spin-off series to Ice Planet Barbarians, called Icehome, features a hunky blue/camo alien with four arms and buns of steel and a heroine who is probably the least annoying Dixon has penned since Georgie, who started off this entire adventure about 20 books/novellas back. The new locale was great, the sexual tension yummy, and the set-up for the next 20-or-so books was divine. Keep bringing 'em on, RD! This new series will be my favorite place to vacation when I need some feel-good, smexy fun!

I am fairly new to this author and series and always on the look out for some alien love books.Well, this new series by this author certainly fit the bill.I mean come on,,the alien hero is huge of course and in more ways than one,he changes colors to blend into his surroundings, has horns, and not to forget he has 4 arms. The 4 arms I could not wrap my head around, but it was a fun read .He also has the "mine" possessive vibe towards the heroine.I loved him, liked the heroine.I will have to check out this author's other books that this new series is a spin off from.
3.5 stars -
Fun entry into the series. If you were worried that RD was running out of stranded people to write about worry no more. This is familiar and comfortable, a nice little outing for a couple of hours.

Lauren’s Barbarian is book one in the Icehome series by Ruby Dixon.
This series needs to be read in order. It’s also a spin-off of her Ice Planet Barbarian’s Series. You can start the Icehome series without reading Ice Plant Barbarian’s, but I recommend starting with Ice Planet Barbarian’s.
The original tribe from Ice Planet Barbarian’s do come back to play a roll though we do move onto all the new humans and aliens that have found themselves stuck on this ice planet. We finally get to see the island across the water that’s been mentioned.
I love returning to this wold and I liked that we fell back on the language issues of not understanding each other and having to find a way to communicate and work together. This brought back memories of when I first started reading Dixon and her Alien Barbarian’s.
We meet new tribes of the Sakh people with unique physical features. The tribes are separated by these features and don’t co-mingle except around a certain time of year. It was fun learning about these new aliens and seeing the Island.
The romance is wonderful. We do have resonance, but since they can’t understand each other it takes a little time.
Dixon packs a lot in this novel and it was a lot of fun. I can’t wait to read on in the Icehome series. I just love coming back to this planet and it’s sexy alines. If your looking for Sci-Fi Romance than I highly recommend Ruby Dixon.

First off... I adore Ruby Dixon and her Ice Planet Barbarians! That said I thought that the new series would be very different from the first series. Sigh... I was wrong....
Sexy Alien that was different? Check
Smart Human heroine? Check
Cooties? sigh....check
Lots and Lots of touching, and petting, and sex? Check
Struggles on the planet? Check
All of this equals to ...the same series.
It was entertaining and made me smile but Icehome and Ice Planet are not different...different couples yes. Same ole Cootie, sigh, yes.
I won't give anymore away but the differences in the end became the same. And that smacks of a formula.
(And I found one glaring typo...which suggests a rush to publish to please her fans...I wouldn't have minded waiting for a more involved story.) It doesn't have to be perfect but I wish it would have been ....more.
Was I disappointed? Yes....but will I read the next one? Of course! -
Lauren is brand new to this new freezing cold alien world, having woke up in a pod surrounded by gigantic blue, horned aliens and the females who say they're married to them. And, as soon it seems she's getting - kind of - used to her arctic new world she finds herself catapulted onto a tropical island and straight into the arms (and he has plenty of those) of a new alien. An alien who doesn't understand English but insists that they're mates. Only Lauren realises that this new tropical island isn't the paradise it seems to be, the hot climate is created by a volcano, one that is about to erupt and kill K'Thar, her new mate, and everyone she cares about in her new home. She has to warn them and somehow save them all.
If you've read the Ice Planet Barbarians (which you should if you haven't) you, like me, would have suspected that there was something across the sea. Well, now we have Dixon's spin off series Icehome to show us exactly what, or rather who is over the sea. Who would have known it was a tropical island full of sexy alien men? Well I had my suspicions.
As I've mentioned this is the first book in a spin off series of the Ice Planet Barbarians (IPB) and whilst the love story itself doesn't require any knowledge of IPB, I think it would definitely help with the context and some of the peripheral characters. However, the characters that will be the heroes and heroines of this series are all brand new to the world, so, in some ways we will get to know this world again through brand new eyes.
I really liked Lauren, I liked how calm and collected she was in the face of such extraordinary circumstances. Although she was freaked out, she still managed to keep her cool and even try and protect and look after some of the other characters. I also really liked K'Thar, who is one of the new aliens, very similar to the IPB aliens, only living on a tropical island led his ancestors down a different evolutionary path...which apparently included 4 arms. Like all Dixon's romances it was really sweet and sexy, reminiscent of her earlier books in the IPB where neither the hero or heroine spoke the same language so their communication hampered and some adorable misunderstandings take place.
I really loved this book, it was a fantastic start to the Icehome series. There's already other romances happening within the story that I can't wait to read about and characters that intrigue me. I want to see how this brand new bunch of strangers manage to survive on their new home together and make the Icehome community work. Bring on the next book! -
This author amazes me time and again with this series/series’s. Just when you think there isn’t anyway she can come up with something new she writes this book and adds a whole new set of twists to this series/world. Though to be fair she has shown us time and again that you can never assume you know where this world will take us. I LOVED this book I couldn’t be any more happy, I can’t wait for what’s to come. Literally I am so sad I have to wait for the next book. I am so excited all over again. I can’t recommend this series/world/author enough. And knowing we have so much more to come I am over the moon happy.

Well folks, turns out I’ve got Covid.
What’s better than Ruby Dixon’s blue men, all while I cough my lungs out?
3.5 stars
I’m really sick, tv makes my ears hurt, and I just don’t want to read something that’s too complicated and makes me over think. So what’s better than Ms Dixon? Her books are sweet, they get to the point, pretty quick, and well...they’re a treat.
That world building is pretty dope too. (Ugh, did I just type dope? I am sick.) -
i need this series to go fast i need to know whats going on with all the different species
-
First in the Icehome series, Lauren's story is new, exiting and amazing. My only regret is, it concentrates more on characters which I'll talk about in a minute but being in new setup, like amazon and jungle setup and new creatures - I was expecting more description about that. I mean that would have been amazing new thing, but the story goes on and on on how resistible K'thar is and makes Lauren crazy with resonance need. That is fine but I was more interested in new setup, oh well - the disappointment
The characters K'thar and Lauren are interesting pair. It was bit unsettling with four arms like this
But after a while K'thar turned out to be most cute and considerate alient possible.
I don't know whose story would be next in Icehome series but it is going to be interesting... -
4 Estrellas!! -
Lauren and K'Thar's story
We're finally on the island! Dixon teased this possibility over several of the IPB books, so I'm glad we were able to explore it in this one.
I've read so many of Ruby Dixon's books that, by now, I'm really desensitized to the weirdness factor of her stories. Didn't think big blue aliens with horns was strange enough? Try big blue aliens with horns, the ability to camouflage, and FOUR friggin' arms! Yep, it's fantastically wacky. By the end, I was so used to it, it's almost like "Of course he has four arms! Why wouldn't he? He NEEDS them!" I love her writing. It's bonkers.
Once you get used to the zany set up, you'll find a pretty decent survival story. Take that, add a fated mate romance into the mix, and it's makes for a near perfect form of escapism. -
3.5 stars for this one.
This Dixon instalment seemed more imaginative and somehow fresh, which was lovely.
An enjoyable excursion away from the ice and snow, onto a tropical island.
Pity that it was also the rim of an active volcano
Interesting new characters and a terrific hero, four arms and all (not sure how I would deal with that, and he's gonna struggle with clothing back on the Ice Planet). Add in huge, muscular, sexy boys cuddling and caring for a baby because all the women are gone? Classic, heart-melting stuff for little old me.
Resourceful and intelligent heroine? Tick. (A nice change to see the heroine rescuing all the males.)
Great escapist fun and so good to catch up with many of our favourite aliens and gals from the ice Planet. -
I'm thrilled with this new spin-off series of Ice Planet Barbarians.
Loved the new tribes of Sakh people with all their unique physical features. Ruby Dixon's imagination knows no bounds. -
So excited about this new series!
I LOVES this book and am so excited about how this series has started! Yes, there are new people that have been discovered on this planet. I love how Ms. Dixon had all this planned out. I don't want to give anything g away so I don't want to say more, but if you've followed along with the Ice Planet Barbarian Series then you can see how some of the events have lined up.
It is so exciting that not only do we meet a new set of people from this planet, but three new clans. Not only that we meet another three different male species from the pods on the spaceship.
I can't wait to read the next book!!! -
My favorite crackilicious series
Ice Planet Barbarians was a lot of fun to devour like a bag of chips but I decided to give it a break because I was going through Blue Alien fatigue and I’m glad I did.
Divin back in has been a blast and reminded me how much I liked this little icy planet. I’m really enjoying this spinoff series that absolutely stands on its own. I actually jumped back into this series by reading the most recent books (Callie and Penny) and liked them so much I had to go back to the beginning. Glad I did.
If you’re in the mood for a fun little alien sci-fi soap opera I’d recommend this. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of them. -
“Michelle?” I call out sleepily to my roommate. “Why are you in my room?”
It’s quiet for a long moment.
“Is Mee-shell in one of the other pods?” someone asks. It’s a man with a deep voice and a strange accent.
“I don’t know,” the woman says again, impatient. “Do I look like a motherfucking pod whisperer? I know just as much as you do.”
“I think if they were going to kill us, they wouldn’t be feeding us and giving us blankets,” I tell her, since that’s the most hopeful thing I can think of.
“Oh good.” She sounds cheered up by this. “Lordy, I was about to pee in my non-existent pants at the thought of being killed by aliens.”
Poor, poor Angie. She keeps touching her belly—her very, very pregnant belly—as if in shock. “Are you okay?” someone asks her.
“I think I’m pregnant,” she says, utterly astonished.
After that, it goes really quiet. It’s clear to all of us that Angie is very pregnant, but if it’s a surprise to her, how long has she been “asleep”? And who impregnated her? It’s disturbing and I get sick at the thought of what that means. If Angie’s been impregnated, what about the rest of us?
“Uh oh,” Willa whispers. “Don’t look now, but red buns at three o’clock.”
Someone titters and I look over. Sure enough, there’s a big bright red guy standing off next to several of the ladies. He’s, um, endlessly red. There’s not a stitch of clothing on him…and I’m kind of bummed that I can’t see what his junk looks like.
I’m only human, after all. If there’s a naked dude, I want to stare, too.
I go up a few branches and then pause, because she’s stopped struggling, and then move her arms to my neck. “Hold on to me.”
Her cheeks are camouflaging that strange shade again. “Fil lilsilly. Thotchuwannet smthn else.”
“I know you are eager,” I soothe her. “Time enough for that, I promise. I must have you safe before I have you under me. Then you can slap me to your heart’s content.”
“Come on, now. Even I did a lot of babysitting when I was a kid,” I say, moving forward to take the baby from him. I’m surprised at how solid the kid is. He’s a heavy little thing, and the four arms immediately wave in utter delight as I tuck him against my side and rock him back and forth. Three fists immediately pull on my hair while the other pats my jaw. Well, that can’t be helped. He’s cute, though, all roly-poly baby fat and light blue skin. As I pick him up, he immediately changes colors to match my skin and gives me a happy, toothless little smile.
