Mary Lou Soutar-Hynes’ latest collection of poems is an invitation to savour life as it comes. Every day brings a chance to start over, open our eyes, see glory in the rubble. “Weigh the question / where it leads”. By her use of white space, she expands the answers to all the questions she asks: “No escaping cul de sacs”. Her poems embrace the ambiguity of beauty. Her pauses, her spread-out stanzas, and indents suggest time passing under her pen and this is how she reminds us that, “Even on the darkest night, we know the sky / will clear”. Another tour de force by Soutar-Hynes, well worth reading.
