July Flames is the seventh book in the Wilder Irish series. I was a little hesitant to read this as my introduction to Carr’s writing, but I had no trouble getting tangled up in this family – even seven books into it. Each book can be read as a standalone as the story strictly follows the couple’s journey. However, there is a family tree you can reference if you want to catch up on how everyone is related.

I was really intrigued by the description of this book. I have a thing for rock star romances, but this one had a twist. Instead of the guy being the rock god, it was the heroine.

Aubrey Summers is trying to break away from her teeny-bop persona, known as Jenny Sweet, and enter into the industry as a serious musician. Not only will she be leaving Jenny’s character behind, but all the ghosts and demons attached to the fictional character. She’s on her first official tour as herself when strange things keep happening to the people around her. After each incident, she receives a rose with a cryptic message. Aubrey has too much on her plate to be worried about some crazed fan.

The last thing Fergus wants to do is follow around some spoiled, frigid celebrity. After leaving the military, he wanted to get his security company up and running. He never thought his first task would be being hired by a star’s label to be her bodyguard because she keeps firing every guy to tries to protect her. Aubrey has another thing coming if she thinks she can scare off Fergus Collins. She’s in danger and putting everyone around her at risk. He has six weeks to figure out who’s behind it all while trying to keep Aubrey safe.

"Then he tried to figure out when his mission had changed. Sure, he’d been hired to protect her, to discover the stalker if he could, but his personal goal had morphed into something much larger and harder.

    He wanted to save her."

While this book had its ups and downs, I really enjoyed it. I feel like Aubrey is misunderstood – not only in the book but by the readers too. She starts out as a horrid character but changes into an outstanding one by the book’s conclusion. Fergus, and the entire Collin’s gang, was wonderful from beginning to end. I can’t wait to pick up the rest of the books in this series soon.

    4 stars!

A special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher/author for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Well, Mari Carr wrote a heroine that I didn’t like very much, in the beginning. But, she did grow on me and I came to respect her, her music and her opinions. And, as for Fergus … he’s a Collin’s … do I need to say anything else?

Like I said, Aubrey took a little getting used to. She was surly, didn’t trust anyone, and, basically, had a chip on her shoulder. But, she had her reasons and they were good ones. It’s hard trying to get back everything that she lost and even harder to trust anyone when it was her own mother that betrayed her. With a stalker on the lose injuring anyone who seems to piss her off, she can’t help but try to change her attitude and finally listen to Fergus. But, having him so close 24/7, playing Truth or Dare, just confiding in him has her heart and her libido up in flames.

Fergus can’t believe that his first job is with a pop star on tour. But, he’s serious about protecting her, finding out who her stalker is, and he will stop at nothing to do that. He’ll answer to Rottweiler, he’ll play Truth or Dare, he’ll push his limits just to find out what her hard limits are. But, through it all, he’ll keep her safe from everyone, including her mother.
With the help of the Collins Clan, he’s able to see just what he has in Aubrey. He also found out that the Collins Curse is real – when they fall, they fall hard and fast. Lucky for him that he had his Pop Pop to guide him, his Mom and Dad’s to show him the right path and his cousins to always have his back. But, Aubrey was the one to get the most out of this deal – she got to find a real family that won’t use you, that will support you and love you, no matter what.

What a wonderful story July Flames was. It was, as usual, truly heartwarming. The Collins’ know when to circle the wagons, when to show someone that they are loved and cared about. And Mari Carr knows how to write these beautiful characters with such flare and grace. It’s unbelievable watching each of the men and women come alive and find their love. She has a way with words, with bringing out the best and worst in people that just keeps you interested in her stories. I can’t wait to see who is next to fall to the curse. Bring on August!

    Sorry, I just can't.

The start was okay until I read the twitching of her lonely p*ssy as he speak her name on their first meet - not again ! **massive eye roll**

The hero came from a big family which was written in the earlier book of this series. Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of big family whose name I cannot remember much more their story.

I felt disconnected while reading. It took me days and I still haven't reached the middle. So once again, I skimmed. (My bad. Still, I can't manage to finish the book)

The suspect behind everything wasn't even a shocker. It was quite obvious. I actually have 2 suspects... one that is given ( which is the real villain) and one is the more subtle possible villain.

Sad to say, I didn't enjoy this one. That's me... who knows? It might work out for you.

    Original review

This book was provided by the author through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Mari Carr and Netgalley!

    July Flames
is the seventh book in the Wilder Irish series and tells the story of Aubrey and Fergus. Although July Flames is the seventh book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.

July Flames is the second book I’ve read by Mari Carr and is definitely my favourite one so far. I really loved the story and the characters and it was nice to see some characters from book 6, June Kisses.

Aubrey and Fergus are so cute. In the beginning Aubrey looks like a diva and is always a bit mean towards Fergus, but Fergus kept on being kind and kept on talking to Aubrey. I think that was such a beautiful thing to do, he’s one of my favourite book boyfriends! Aubrey changed a lot towards the end of the book and I loved how strong and confident she became.

I really loved July Flames and I cannot wait to read the other books in the Wilder Irish series. Mari Carr is an amazing author and I’ll probably love her other books too!

    Fergus you caught my heart!
Let’s start with the fact that I don’t really read these kind of romances so, it wasn’t bad at all. I liked it more than I expected. I’m guessing it would of helped to have a bit more background as I haven’t read any of the others in the series but I stuck with it anyhow.
It was a very easy read and I grew to love the characters even Aubrey as you learn why she comes across as such a bitch at the start.
Fergus is hired to protect the loved and adored star that is Aubrey and boy does he do that. I mean, even I can admit the guy has crazy charm. Honestly though without the stalker element I probably would have become very bored as the mystery brought life to the story for me. Personally it was quite predictable, towards the end it was more cute than interesting for me and I kind of rushed over it so maybe that says more about me not being completely into quick, passionate romances. My favourite kind of romances are those built up over time but honestly it’s such a short book they wouldn’t have had time so I understand why they fell for each other so fast but personally I think they’re too perfect and built on intense lust.
If you’re a romance fan and you enjoy a hell of a lot of sexual tension I would deffo give it a shot, it’s cute I can’t deny that!!!!

I would like to ask the author to stop teasing us about Finn and Miguel and just give us their story already! I don't care if it's going to be a triad or not, I just wanted them to get together. Is that too much to ask?

I can't believe that were are 7 books into the series. Does that mean that we only have 5 left? I have read 5 of the books (I can't read Padraig's book because it will break my heart) and 3 of them got 5 stars from me. With one exception, I can say that the series has been very good and I enjoyed a lot each book.

As much as I loved May Flowers, I feel like July flames had the most developed story. It was like Aubrey and Fergus had the room to tell their story and they made me believe that what they had was more than lust. Aubrey is a very tricky character. Before we even meet her we learn that she is like an ice queen and a diva. The way she was described was not ideal and I was wondering how I could possibly like her. She is also peachy towards Fergus sometimes, especially at the beginning of their story. As it turns out, her behavior was mostly a way to keep other people away from her because she wanted to keep other people from becoming a target for her stalker. Once she opened up, she became a different and more likable person, which was great. I couldn't like a book where the heroine was constantly a peach. Fergus was hired to protect Aubrey, but I loved how his protective mode went from "I have to protect my client" to " I have to protect the love of my life". It was a noticeable switch and I liked that very much.

Once again. Pop pop stole the spotlight! And my heart I might add. I love that man and he was so kind-hearted and caring. He made Aubrey feel welcome. And she had a gift for him in the epilogue that was very sweet. If I didn't like her already I would have just from reading the epilogue!

So, I was initially drawn to this book because Bodyguard Romances are my kryptonite. Yep, I totally read this because I knew the bodyguard would fall in love with the pop princess he was guarding. What I didn't know was that I would really enjoy the secondary characters too.

Fergus and Aubrey have a rough road to finding their HEA. First they have to admit and embrace their attraction. Then they have to find the stalker. Then they have to work through some other extenuating issues like her ex and her mother...and so on. It's a good little storyline. To add to the fun, the author weaves the family members which have been introduced in previous books, into the plot. Of course, my favorite was Pop Pop - - the patriarch of the family and Fergus' grandfather. When he makes a wish for Aubrey that she will one day look at a man the way his wife looked at him in a picture from their early years was just so dang sweet.

Even though this book is in the middle of a series, you can absolutely read it as a standalone. I did. However, I absolutely want to go back and read the previous novels so I have the backstory on all of these wonderful characters.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

After tiring of his career in the army, Fergus Collins returns home to Baltimore to set up a security company with his cousin. When he's approached by another cousin with an opportunity to earn an obscene amount of money for a six week bodyguarding job, he can't turn it down. But when he meets the woman he's protecting, a pop star diva, he wonders just how hard earned the money will actually be.

Aubrey Sommers has been taken advantage of her entire life and betrayed by those she thought she could trust so now she plays the part of the spoiled pop star to keep people away. Even so, she's drawn to her new bodyguard and when it becomes apparent that she has a stalker, Fergus may finally be able to prove to her that some people are trustworthy.

This one was short, sweet, and steamy. I figured out who the stalker was fairly early on but that didn't keep me from enjoying the story.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Fergus Collins is former military. He decides to start a security business with his cousin Finn after he gets out. His first case, protect Aubrey Summers a former TV teen show personality and now music star from a stalker. He is hesitant at first because he heard about her reputation and the fact that she constantly fires her bodyguards. He takes the case because the record company hired him and Aubrey can’t fire him. He is not impressed when he first meets her and soon realizes that he has his job cut out for him. He can make it, he only has to stay until the tour is over. Aubrey Summers is strong willed, stubborn and has major trust issues due to being used by the people around her, especially her mother, her former manager. When she meets no nonsense Fergus, she does everything she can do to get rid of him, but he won’t be deterred. Fergus is determined to find out who the stalker is. Accidents happen to anyone upsetting Aubrey. As the tour continues, these two strong willed people bang heads quite a few times. Things begin to change as they both get to know one another. Soon a romance develops. This also causes the stalker to up his game. Can Fergus keep Aubrey safe and find out who is stalking her before the tour is over? What will happen to their relationship too?
I really enjoyed this book. I love this family. The chemistry is great between these two characters as they develop and grow throughout this story. I especially liked how Fergus finally realizes that he can’t do this job on his own and enlists the help of the rest of the family to help him find the stalker and protect Aubrey. In typical Collins fashion, Aubrey is accepted as a member of the family, something she has longed for. I laughed at the antics of some of the Collins men as they fan girled over Aubrey because they used to watch her show. There are a few twists and turns as Fergus tries to find the stalker and the suspense builds up on the last night of the tour as we find out who the stalker really is. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more of the Collins family, especially Pop.

This edition of the Wilder Irish Series has a little more suspense than the past stories. I was completely wrong about who the villain was, and loved every minute of it. The lead characters were very relatable and lovable.
As usual, once I started reading, I didn’t want to stop.
Mari Carr always puts a smile on my face.
Hope you enjoy this as much as I did. Happy reading!

  • Heather

I absolutely flew through reading this book because of just how great Fergus and Aubrey were together. But the total icing on the cake was that epilogue!!!! The epilogue alone was worth five stars as Fergus and Aubrey sat down with PopPop for a private concert. I don't normally select romances featuring rock stars because I often find them to arrogant and full of themselves. However, I have loved every book that I've read in this series so far so I went for this one. I'm glad I did because Aubrey while at times bratty is definitely not what I expected. Fergus on the other hand is the perfect bodyguard, former military, dedicated and exactly what Aubrey needs. Plenty of romance and some suspense made this yet another great entry in the Wilder Irish series.

July Flames is a surprisingly endearing and heartfelt book in the Wilder Irish series. It's the seventh book so far, ergo the title. It features hotheaded heroine and a dominating alpha bodyguard. Their romantic journey is suspenseful, magnetizing, and raunchy in the right amount.
    Mari Carr
wrote an engaging romantic story, one that will spark all the right feels. Combining a sweet romance with a great family dynamic, hot flirty banters, and thick sexual tension, you got a beautifully crafted story of love in the hot July. If you love bodyguard-client romance, you'll definitely love this one.

Aubrey Summers is face-to-face with life-threatening accidents and mysterious notes at the start of her comeback tour. She didn't take it well—snapping at everyone within close distance, and can't keep a cool temper. She's got a bitchy attitude towards her crew and almost everyone near her. Enter Fergus Collins, after co-starting a security company he's assigned a very important duty to help build the company reputation. Being Aubrey's bodyguard is no easy task. He's turned to an easy target for Aubrey's constant loose temper. But keeping her safe for the next six weeks is his top priority and finding out who's behind all the mysterious life-threatening accidents. Aubrey is a firecracker and he's got a way of disciplining this diva even if it took him his all his reign and control.

Aubrey is a different type of heroine we're used to in a romance novels. To put it lightly, she's a complete bitch. Her behaviors makes her a tough nut to crack. She's got an iffy history with her boyfriends. Feeling used and betrayed, especially by her mother hardened her to become a brash woman. Behind her 'sweetheart' facade in front of her adoring fans, she bear a wound she couldn't tend herself. Now this is where Fergus Collins came along.

The sexy alpha male won't take no for an answer. Even after countless rude digs Aubrey jabbed at him, he's not backing down as her bodyguard. He cared for this girl more than he can stand and that's what bothering him the most. Nevertheless, he required her full trust and that is something he had to earn the hard way. Even after their first encounter, Aubrey has considered him attractive, she felt the same pull towards him but was too stubborn to act upon it. Fergus is a gentleman through and through, yet at the same time he can be possessive and dominating.

Aubrey and Fergus' story is satisfying and emotionally fulfilling. I especially love their romantic development. The pace is not too fast or too slow to begin with, everything just fits. The plot twist is a bit predictable but the suspense building up to it is perfect making it as engaging as their romantic journey. I love a mystery that puts two people together so it's no brainer that I love this book.

  • Izzy ♡ boom, boom, fucking boom

The first thing that caught my eye was the cover. I don't know if it's the colouring or the font...but I can't stop looking at it even now.
The next thing that caught my eye was the fact that this was a bodyguard/pop star romance. Who doesn't love those?!?!
I didn't know, before starting this book, that it was part of a quite long series- which is a spinoff of another long series. I'm usually very wary of long series because each individual book tends to be shorter than what I like, but I chose to suck it up and give this one a go... and I'm so happy that I did!
One of the reasons I stay away from shorter books is because the relationships seem to be rushed, but the relationship between Fergus and Aubrey developed quite naturally with good pacing, I felt.
Mari Carr also really made me *feel* for Aubrey- for how broken and lonely she was. But it made it that much more special as you see her develop relationships with Fergus and his family. That was definitely one of my favourite parts of this book.
Onto the mystery part of the book- I was pretty sure I knew who the stalker was from early on, but I was still on the edge of my seat with each page, so props to Mari Carr for that.
Towards the end, though, I wasn't as interested in the romance as I was at the start. So all in all, I did really like it, but I wasn't left feeling as satisfied as I wanted to be.

Thanks to netgalley for the ARC, provided in exchange for an honest review.

Seriously!?! What genre can’t Mari Carr write??
July Flames is a stellar Romantic Suspense that held my attention the entire time. I started reading this around Midnight and it is now 4:48am and I am cursing Mari Carr for my lack of sleep, but in reality so happy I stayed awake to finish this in one sitting.
July Flames features Fergus Collins the son of Lily, Killian and Justin. I was so excited to see how the mysterious Fergus turned out since he spent the better part of the first seven books in the Wilder Irish Series overseas in the military. Well he is back and has started a protection/investigation agency. The first client Aubrey Summers is stunning and a pain in the butt.
The chemistry between these two doesn’t show right away but both of them need time after their lives have thrown curve balls at them and the fact that Fergus is supposed to be keeping Aubrey safe even though she tries to make his life miserable.
The element of suspense that Mari Carr adds to this book is AMAZING!! I wasn’t expecting the outcome and was floored.
I adored July Flames. We already know how amazing the Collins family is and how much they love each other but this book really shows how much. Plus Pop Pop always makes me smile and tear up at the same time.
While you can read these books without reading any of the previous books, I wouldn’t recommend it because you would be missing out on 14 other amazing stories.

Fergus amd Aubrey are absolutely wonderful together. Fergus is a tough, in charge alpha male who has been hired to protect a former teen pop star. Aubrey has been taken advantage of her entire life and doesn't make it easy when Fergus when the two are introduced. Fergus has found away to break down Aubrey's tough girl exterior to the softer, vulnerable girl hiding away. Fergus takes his job seriously but he is not strong enough for the Collins curse. Fergus shows Aubrey that it is ok to give her trust to him and his family. The way her protects her has you swooning. Their chemistry is off of the chart. I loved how Fergus showed Aubrey what having a family is all about. I never tire of the Collins Clan.

  • Curly Bibliophagist

July Flames is the next book in a series by Mari Carr.
Fergus has returned from war and ended his military service. He has started a private security firm with a few of his cousins. Their first case comes quickly and it is providing protection to a pop-star.

Aubrey is closed up and doesn't let anyone get close. She trusts no one after her momager betrayed her. Now she is getting flowers with threatening notes attached and people around her are getting hurt. When Fergus comes along, she can't get rid of him, like she has with everyone else but she isn't going to make it easy for him.

Fergus had no clue who Aubrey was before he met her. She doesn't make protecting her easy but he knows that she had been hurt before.

What will happen when the two of them are forced together by circumstances?

Mari Carr is a great writer. Her books mix the love of a close Irish family with a side of steamy. She's an automatic buy for me.

Seventh book in the Wilder Irish series, this series is a spin-off of the Wild Irish series. Can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone, told in dual POV with HEA. The Collins curse strikes again! This big awesome family owns and operates a pub, so the secondary characters are throughout the series. Fergus is newly out of the service and just opened a security company with his cousin. His first job is acting as a bodyguard to former child star and now solo artist Aubrey on her concert tour. Aubrey has a stalker and does not trust anyone after her upbringing. Fergus’s dominate personality has Aubrey desiring to give up control to him. I love how the Collins clan is so loving and accepting and quick to include Aubrey into their family! Light BDSM fun!!

  • Shannon Scamahorn

    The Collins' Curse strikes again...

Fergus Collins is a recently returned Vet beginning a new career in private security. He takes a job as bodyguard to a child star turned pop star. He expects a diva and he gets one. Aubrey has been in showbiz all her life, been betrayed by those she should be able to trust and now keeps everyone at a distance. She has no interest in being guarded and resents Fergus but Fergus is strong, steady and true. As Fergus stands guard he slowly wins Aubrey's trust and together they create some flames.

I enjoyed this addition to the Wild Irish series. These characters were complex, multifaceted and engaging. I recommend this book and the others in this series. Mari Carr is a talented and delightful storyteller. I can't wait for the next addition.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Mari Carr is an auto buy author for me and her Wilder Irish series is just so good.

I loved the Collins family so much and with every book in the series I love them more and more.

I really enjoyed reading about Fergus and Aubrey and how they got to know one another and fell in love.
Aubrey was a hard heroine to love but as the story progress and we learned more about her past I could understand her actions better and I wanted her to find happiness and love.
Fergus was super sexy and hot, I loved his alpha behavior and how he wanted to protect Aubrey in any cost.

As always it was great to read about the other Collins family members, especially Pop Pop .

I can't wait to read more books in this series.

  • Laiza

    I am calling dibs on Fergus! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

  • Xantippi Leska

Received an advance copy through Booksprout.

I love this series! Fergus and Aubrey's story takes you on a roller coaster ride, it takes them a while, but after a lot of back and forth, they manage to find their HEA.

  • Sue

July Flames is a great romantic suspense story by Mari Carr. I adore this series and was not disappointed in the slightest. July Flames is another hit! I loved it.

  • Dar

Fergus is not worried in any shape or format about the Collins curse. He isn’t anticipating it, he isn’t running from it, he just doesn’t give it any thought. Maybe it is because he was away so long? Maybe it was because he missed his family so much? Maybe because as the only child with three loving parents, he knew love was not to be feared? Who knows, but when it struck him, he didn’t even think about it, he knew Aubrey was his, and that was that!

Now Aubrey, she needed love, she needed trust, and she absolutely need the Collins clan to make her part of their family. But with a target on her, from everyone it seems, and a stalker hurting everyone who even is a little nice to her, she has a bit to go to get her happiness

An excellent romantic suspense, with some sweet Collins shenanigans, and a dominant bodyguard falling for his charge, a former child star turned grown up star, this book had me engrossed in it from the first page!

  • Cheryl Graham-Petit

A phenomenal pop star/ex-military/bodyguard romance story filled with drama, betrayal, suspense, mystery, off-the-charts chemistry, light BDSM, plenty of feels, family, love, and an amazing epilogue.

I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.

  • Jennifer

This book was absolutely phenomenal! Mystery and intrigue, love and family lead to a book that had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end! I can't get enough of the Collins clan, and this book just proves why!

Fergus is home from the military, beginning a new life (and business) with his cousin. His first assignment as a bodyguard leads to him going on the road with a pop princess! Cold, rude, and unapproachable, she does her best to run him off. But Fergus is determined enough to stick it out, keeping her safe from a crazy stalker!

Aubrey has had an amazing career, but a less than stellar home life. Despite her advantageous upbringing as a TV star, she has no trust in anyone, after being let down, again and again, by those that she should have been able to trust.

I wasn't sure that Aubrey was going to be able to set aside her mistrust long enough to be able to open up to Fergus. I wasn't sure Fergus was going to be able to look past the spoiled pop princess persona that Aubrey was using to protect herself. But this is a book about the Collins family. Of course there has to be a HEA! This book was everything that I love about this author, and so much more. And the ending! Well, you will just have to read the book, but I will say I had a happy tear in my eye!
