Emotional Intelligence: How to Master Relationships, Raise Your EQ, and Develop Strong Social Skills Reviews

This was informative in a way I was not expecting. I am already highly emotionally intelligent after years of practice and hard work but there was a section on hormones I found absolutely fascinating. It also brought a new perspective on interacting with those of low EQ.

This is one quote that I have memorized and Even have it written on stickies stuck on my mirror “Remember, the only difference between a happy person and a sad person is the way they interpret the events that happen in their lives.”
Our Emotions really do control OUR behavior: The author stresses that an emotionally intelligent person understands how important it is to always be in control of their emotions. This takes practice and a mindset to succeed . It can be done. They don’t allow their emotions to control their behavior. For example, How do you behave during an argument? Do you scream until you lose your voice, or do you quietly and calmly use your emotional intelligence to control the situation? The answer we give is the key to our success in life, business...etc.
I have learned by reading through this wonderful encouraging book that It is normal to feel irritated when any person gets into a confrontation with you. However, it is never okay to become disrespectful and start shouting and calling someone degrading names. This is one I had to work on. By following the advice and steps of the author... I have the right mindset now. I can positively say that I have almost succeeded in the art of emotional intelligence.
For example , in a relationship, a partner who argues calmly is emotionally intelligent; if not, you are dealing with a person who will eventually get into a screaming match with you. The author goes into such detail about our anatomy and how a low emotional intelligence can really cause major bodily health and mental problems. She discusses everything in her book. She does not miss a thing.
For example, when a person can feel him/herself getting angry and chooses to walk away instead of yelling, you can keep dating that person. Because they have learned to control their emotions…and they would rather walk away from a situation than hurt you by yelling and calling you a degrading name in the heat of the moment. I highly recommend this book because It will teach you how to master your emotions ... your health will improve and so will your skills in the business world.

Author with No Intellectual Rights Integrity
I started reading this book and found out it’s a paraphrase, re-mashed, remixed, cherry-picked and sometime copy-paste version of the French author, Thibaut Meurisse’s book called “ How To Master Your Emotion”.
We all know that you can’t write any new idea in the world because at least someone has already written it before.
But this Author took entirely copied the first 40% of her book from the book I just read. I am going to write down a few things that she copied,
1. Saber-tooth roger example on mentioning about my primal instinct fight or flight mood.
2. Abraham Lincoln’s divorce
3. The methods about interpretation, identifying and repeating
4. A farmer goes on a Pinic. And so many more
That’s first 40% of the book and then the book become almost a cookbook because the hormones definitions, deficiencies, benefits that made up about 20%
And lastly, the remaining 40% isn’t that bad but I lost my impression because I highly doubt that she didn’t copy from other authors’ work. So I just skimmed through what she actually wrote and I don’t want to encounter original books in the future. I will save to read original materials.
And the worst she didn’t even include bibliography and she just wrote it it was her own ideas.
I reached out to the French author. I hope she get sued. Bye, I won’t recommend anyone to read any of her books. -
Good Intro or Refresher with Action Plan
After the groundbreaking and popular book of the same name came out a couple of decades ago, the term emotional intelligence resurfaces now and then. I like this book's approach to the topic. The author first explores what it is, what emotions are, and what affects them. She even gave some discussion to the chemical and physiological backbone that is a part of emotion. Later chapters include a specific look at the topic in regard to the home and the workplace. But what I think makes this book particularly good is the last two chapters. The first is a quiz for you to assess your emotional intelligence. I could say I did well on some and not so well on the others! But she follows this up with a 10-day challenge so that you can improve your emotional intelligence. The book is easy to read and written in a conversational tone, even when she is digging into the more scientific aspects of it all. If you'd like a nice introduction to the topic, or a refresher course, and would appreciate an action plan as well as the background of the topic, this book may very well fill the bill for you.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

It's easy to assume that we may know what emotional intelligence is all about, but Judy Dyer gives a complete view of it and how we benefit from developing our emotional intelligence. When we see emotions as just something inside of us, we miss out on how they impact what we do and say and how we treat others. This book covers that aspect from several angles. Also, there's a great reminder how our bodies and minds are connected. So, our emotions can be impacted by how our bodies are doing - such as sleep, movement, etc.
This is a practical guide providing pointers for how emotional intelligence is helpful in the workplace and at home. I found the 10 day challenge to improve emotional intelligence to be helpful as well.

This reads like a mini-encyclopedia of "things that have to do with intelligence": It hits several topics, but lacks enough depth in any of them for the reader to get more than a basic understanding of "what," rather than the title-promised "how." Actual guidance in improving one's EQ is mainly stuffed into the last 20% of the book, the rest of the book discussing all kinds of reasons EQ would be useful while being tantalizingly shallow about what exactly needs to be done to improve in a given area. (For example, the book mentions four specific social skills significant for EQ, but then jumps on to the next subject without bothering to discuss how these skills might be improved.)

This was probably one of the best books I've read. Very easy read and easy to understand. Very descriptive and well written. I liked the exercises at the end that teach you how to stop and control your emotions. I loved this book. I really wanted to purchase a hard copy but I cannot find it anywhere, the version I had was a friend's so I will need to return it. Overall, I recommend this book to anyone who is working on themselves and is in the process of or wants to grow and be a better human. A great start for anyone learning to recognize their emotions and ways to deal with them.

I wish more parents and more educators would read this book. I am both and I find building on that emotional intelligence early in a child's life helps build success. This book offers excellent information on doing that.

I have to say, I have never been a biggest fan of non-fiction, however, this book was so interesting and kept me reading. I used some time on this, but I found every single page in this book interesting.

I appreciate Dyer's point that emotions are temporary, they don't define us, and we shouldn't expect to always have positive emotions. Negative emotions can propel us to action, they signify that we need to change, just as physical pain alerts us something is wrong so we seek help such as a doctor's visit. We can take care of ourselves in a number of ways including being a better friend, active listening, reducing foods that mess with hormones which disrupt mood (and adding foods that assist in producing the good hormones), increasing exercise, calming our minds and reducing stress with meditation and being more present, and getting better sleep (just to name a few of the many things that were recommended). There are some good tips on journaling activities that I plan to implement.
