I read this before the original, and so ruined myself for the original version! I did enjoy this one better, at least in part due to the contemporary setting. Same great message as the original.

This was a re-read for my book club challenge. When I read it years ago, I read In His Steps and then went directly into What Would Jesus Do? It had been long enough that I really only remembered the basic theme of the book.

I love the premise. I love the challenge given. I love the idea of it. Especially in the current social and political climate, I felt the challenge to live better ... to live more like Jesus. It really made me think about my work environment and my neighborhood. Do I really do What Jesus Would Do in those places? I feel like I fall easily into that role with other Moms and at the school ... but not where I know I would truly be challenged if my actions and words were more like Jesus. Hmmm. So the challenge is personal. Accepted.

I also realized why I had only remembered the basic theme. There are a lot of characters to keep track of in this book. I felt like I was bouncing around and not getting a full story for many of them. Hence, the 4 stars. I kept a star back because I would have liked to know more of the characters better. Less is more sometimes ...

This book is a refreshed version of the internationally known book "In His Steps". It describes the transformational change to members of a congregation when they commit to ask themselves "What Would Jesus Do?" before every decision, and to follow that leading, whatever the consequences. I was challenged by the book and will continue to reflect on how this can become more true in my life as well.

In His Steps was written by this author's grandfather and he is writing a more contemporary story of the same theme. Will challenge you spiritually and make one realize the absolute importance of prayer in the life of a true believer. I was challenged by the book and the ideas setforth. And am looking forward to another book written by another young family member in the same vein. The first was written in the early 1900's, second in 1950 and third in 2007.
