Collects The Red Mother. kinda disappointing ending ngl : i was really shocked by how good the first vol was, but this was pretty anticlimactic and i'm SAD! Genuinely hated the way this series ended.
I feel like they had something special and just gave up on it, Yeah, that ending was a let down :/ Well, that was disappointing, It had a good start but then just seemed to skip over the middle and go straight to the ending, I feel like I missed volumes but there are no other ones,
It's a shame because I liked the premise, I liked the characters, Heck, I even liked how it ended in a technical sense of, wrapped up well, sense of dread for the future still, But it just didn't feel earned,
I have no idea what the Red Mother was, who the people trying to stop them were, what happened to Ian I mean I'm guessing murdered but come on, just disappear him and then he's gone forever What was that monster exactly What did the puzzles have to do with everything
It's a shame.
Still, I enjoyed the first two volumes at least,.So many questions. But it did leave a lot of room for sequel/companion series, i am in incredible pain All of my fears were realized in this final volume, This series was such a slow burn throughout itsissues that nothing was explained, Haun didn't even try and bother with it, The reader is just left completely in the dark as to why this is happening to Daisy, All we get is some vague references,
Danny Luckert's art does continue to shine, This book continues to look creepy as hell, with some horrific scenes, Too bad Haun's story couldn't match it, So much red. A good conclusion to this epic puzzle drama, The fact that The Red Mother is one of four is disconcerting, An anticlimactic end to the series, sort of Hellraiserlight,
Edited to add: the doughnut scene introduced me to the concept of gourmet donuts at Oh My God How Much levels of pricing, What a disappointing outcome. Was really hoping for more information at all about the red mother or really anything The other two volumes had so much build and this just ugh, Loved it. Excellent ending. Yet, in the end, youll still have very little idea of the bigger picture, but it doesnt matter, Great read! Hrozná hovnařina, Red Mother je ten úplně nejzákladnější Lovecraft kultisté chtějí vyvolat entitu roztaženej nasešitu, U konce jsem se regulérně smál, jak je to celý strašně debilní, Vysvětlení nula nula nic, A ten závěr No ty vogo, . . D What the fuck kind of an ending is this That's it! I need answers! I really enjoyed the creepy build up in the previous two volumes but this last one is kind of a crash landing.
This is a review for The Red Mother vol,, which collects theissue series, This is a case where you really need to read all three volumes in one go, because it's all selfcontained, and the way the story develops, you get to the end of Vol.
right as things begin to get in gear, So trust me, read the whole shebang at once, The story moves briskly, the artwork is outstanding, and it all comes together quite well, This is a horror story in the tradition of Rosemary's Baby or Hereditary, where our protagonist Daisy is recovering from a brutal attack
that robbed her of both her boyfriend and her right eye.
But everywhere she goes, she feels stalked by an ancient evil, and those around her may not be the support structure she really needs, This might deserve losing a star for practicing a horror story format that, if already familiar to the reader, removes some of the tension from The Red Mother.
However, the writing is really nicely done and never explains too much, and the artwork is just outstanding, So even if you can sense what's coming, the ride is far too much fun to get off, See her. Read as single issues.
I seem to have a contentious opinion but I actually like the ending,
Each to their own, right :
A creepy and mysterious story arc, unsettling and nicely illustrated, So this series goes out like a wet fart,
I'm going to be comparing this series to Rosemary's Baby, as that's a pretty perfect example of the conspiracy horror thriller, which is the domain we're in here.
The Red Mother emulates a conspiracy horror thriller in every way, except it has no core, there is no central idea to the story, there is no mythology.
It looks like one, it reads like one well, sort of, but it is fundamentally empty,
Over two and a half books orissues we're presented with a slow burn, albeit without much burn, The trick is to slowly keep upping the tension, with small reveals, both to the reader and to the main character, Part of the trick is to keep to the main character's perspective, so we never can be sure what she is experiencing is actually happening, or she's losing her marbles.
Paranoia feeds the narrative.
The Red Mother gives us some of those tid bits, but then keeps repeating the same tid bits, Yes, yes, we know these characters are in on the conspiracy, showing them to be again, doesn't add anything, We get to see characters talking about Daisy again, we know there is a conspiracy, it doesn't add anything,
The main character has to be quite active in the story she sees strange stuff, she tries to find out more about it, Rosemary visits her friend who knows about witches, she tries to find out more about the building she's now living in, the history of its tenants, People keep blabbing to Daisy about someone or something called the Red Mother, and Daisy does nothing, Then again, we find out in this volume, this might be because there is nothing,
And it's not that there wasn't time to do thisissues, a lot of it wasted on spinning wheels.
Ten issues at a slow pace, just to have the ending still feel rushed,
The Herald, the monster thing, never really evolves beyond the creepiness of its first appearance, in fact it becomes more and more ridiculous, the more we get to see it.
To call the ending terrible is too simple it has the exact right ending for a story with nothing at its core,
Read with my very own but waaay scarier Herald, sitelinkAnne!,
