Was expecting a wholesome romance, instead, I got this very weird bullying story.
Pros:
>The "character" the MC gets reincarnated in has a sympathetic and interesting story
Cons:
>Weak worldbuilding. Mix and match with any other Magic Battle School anime and you'd get more or less the same here. Magic is determined based on your bloodline and lineage, which feels very cheap since every major character is a noble so there's this vibe of "only rich people can do cool shit lul"
>Titular romance is very hollow. The main character ruined his life to protect his love interest, and while she does supposedly "care" for him (out of obligation) she still doesn't hesitate to call him a pig and shame him for his weight.
>Speaking of Fatphobia literally every character here shits on the MC for being fat. I understand that his character used to be a rude annoying guy in the past, but honestly, that would put him on par with every other dipshit noble in this story. Not to mention that the main insult used to denigrate and demean him always has more to do with his looks rather than anything he had done in the past. The character wants to be friends with his batchmates, but aside from Valjean-- I don't see why I should care or root for this because they all suck.
I told myself that if the confession issue is not resolved in volume one I would drop this series because this premise is not something that needs more than one volume to do this. And guess what? Charlotte misunderstood his confession as platonic even tho there is no way that it would've been.
Overall, kinda bad but at least it was fast reading. Would've preferred if it was a slice-of-life romance rather than its piss-poor attempt at building an epic adventure fantasy which is sequel baited at the end but I couldn't be fucked to continue. -
This was decent. I wasn't sure what to think in the beginning, but the story ended nicely. I liked the characters, and while the story does have some cliches, it also differentiates itself. I'd recommend it, and I'll read volume 2.

It's an isekai / reincarnation light novel, but after reading it, it doesn't need to be isekai. The plot isn't ridiculous, though I am reminded a bit of Harry Potter. It ends properly and I'm looking forward for the next volume.
