  i bought this book for my grandmother after we visited luray caverns this summer. she wanted to learn more about how the caverns were discovered and finding a book on them was actually surprisingly difficult. before sending her the book, i decided to skim through it and ended up holding off on sending it until i could finish it. i was not expecting this book to be as enjoyable as it was. the story was well-told and read like a story instead of a laundry list of historical facts. i found myself really caring about the men who discovered the caverns and the ending hurt my heart. even if this was not the only book i could find on the subject, i would definitely recommend reading it to anyone who has even the slightest interest in virginian history in general and the luray caverns in particular.
