The book has been written from DCI Gene hunts perspective He was based on a character from a set of TV series

The character is with out tact or modesty or in fact any social skills, however what he does believe in is his job.

So the book its hard to describe and to be honest unfair to describe unless you have seem the TV series which is excellent and I cannot recommend enough however be warned it can be tricky to follow and I think the crassness and base humour is a way of easing the frustration you feel at times trying to keep up.
So yes this is a book written in character know your character and know the book, I enjoyed but then again I loved the TV shows, "Once upon a time coppers were heroes nowadays, telling someone you're on the force is likely to get you in as much trouble as dipping your tadger in the punch at a Royal Garden Party.
