I should have known. Yes, that's an exclamation mark in the title.* That was the most exciting thing about this very tepid secret baby story.
Seems the H/h had a sexual affair in London. The ex-skier hero-turned-corporate-takeover-guy didn't want to settle down so he broke it off. Heroine pretended she didn't care.
When she found out she was pregnant, she sent him a letter using her jealous boss as the courier. Of course the H never got it. Then she sent another letter after the baby was born, but it got mixed in with the get well cards the hero got after his car accident.
Now, a year after the accident, the hero is recuperating in the Seychelles where the heroine is helping her widowed aunt sell her restaurant. Small world.
So the hero finds out he has a one year-old son and he takes it pretty well. He just doesn't want to be a father. There are shenanigans when a desperate divorce (who has been hanging around the restaurant looking for a boy toy) steals the baby. The hero then realizes he wants the family life.
And zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Even the kidnapping is boring since the stakes are so low. The baby has been missing for ten minutes. They are able to get to the small airport in time.
Hero was kind of cold, but never cruel. Heroine is sensible and didn't need the hero to exist. What are these people doing in HPlandia?
*beware of exclamation marks in HP titles. I can't explain it, but they just herald "bad/try hard story ahead." -
Its a very interested book.
