Lots of can of cream soup in the ingredient list, There were very few recipes that I flagged to make,
I did pick up the sequel at the same time from the library so I'm hoping this version is a little more modern.
I didnt get a lot out of this book, since most of the recipes are of the “open a can of this, dump in a jar of that, underseason, add meat, and freeze” variety, which is just not the way I like to cook.
Now that Im a grownup Im just going to admit that I like to eat interesting and exotic things, and cooking those things takes time, so I just make large batches and we have leftovers.
However, if thats not how you roll and its fine if its not, lets all just be ourselves you might really like the freezer cooking series.
sitelink posted here, along with an alternative Get your hat on freezer meal prepping, There aren't any photos in this book and it doesn't lay flat for a big work day, I don't think there were any wow ideas for me but most sounded o, k. to good. I have a few more recipes to try in the future Basically a frozen food/Dinner by Design DIY book, In theory I really like the idea of having meals ready to pull from the freezer at any given time, But in practice, I didn't get around to trying any of the recipes while I had this book checked out from the library.
So am I likely to pull myself together enough to make this happen
I did like how the Dont PanicDinners in the Freezer's recipes had measurements broken down for various serving sizes so you could make a little, a lot, or a whole heck of a lot.
The recipes sounded pretty good but the book is sorely in need of pictures, Also the meals require defrosting but times were not really given, Is overnight in the fridge enough
If I do get around to doing more make ahead meals, I will probably be most likely to follow the principles here but just make more of my own family recipes in bulk to freeze.
Okay
It is a helpful book but it was just okay, I enjoyed it but a lot of the recipes I felt were new and interesting and the tips on how to freeze is good.
Also the charts too but other than that it was okay, I didn't find really any stand out recipes as far as something that sounded so good it made my mouth water and they didn't include any pictures which I think is essential in selling your recipes.
However, I did like the information given on freezing meals, and will incorporate more of that into my meals, I'm going to take a look through one more time before it goes back to the library, but it's only a two star rating for me right now.
I was pleasantly surprised by the simplicity and practicality of the freezer cooking approach used in this book,

The beginning of the book has some shopping tips I thought were interesting, For instance, a "Loss Leader" is a product that a grocery store offers at a loss to them assuming the consumer will buy other products as well to make up the profit.

a very interesting book about making multiple dinners ahead of time and putting them all in the freezer, then you pull them out when you need them and they're ready to go, just cook them up, some good looking recipes. all recipes are intended to feedpeople, and all recipes are listed with amounts for multipling the recipe by, by, or by, so you can fill your freezer up with bags and bags, and always have a choice of what you want to pull out and make for dinner.
this book would be fabulous if i was feeding more than just me, and if i had a dedicated freezer, I was extremely disappointed with this cookbook, I expected to find a book filled with quality recipes to stock up on for busy nights emphasis on "quality", This book offers no more than recipes that may be found in any comprehensive cookbook, and they are not as well done.

The individual recipes provide instructions for 'cooking day' and 'serving day' as well as specific freezing instructions, It's definately not my usual type of cookbook I prefer ethnic, spicy, veggieheavy but this cookbook meets its stated mission, As a quickandeasy freezer cookbook, it includes a number of recipes that don't require any cooking prior to freezing
many of the chicken recipes and some of the beef and pork recipes and easy cooking in the oven, grill, skillet, or slow cooker the day of the meal.
