Pretty librarian Sugar wants her life to stay quiet. That's hard enough when friends and neighbors turn into furry wolves every full moon. But when a hot vampire gets involved, life's bound to get complicated.

The Omega have always been the pansies of the paranormal. Now Chicago's top werewolf pack has issued them a life or death challenge. Their only option: hire a vampire warrior to teach them the moves.

Daedalus has been a powerful vampire for ages. Intrigued by the chance to train the geeks of the underworld, he wasn't bargaining on losing his heart to a human. Can he make the Omegas a success, fit into Sugar's quiet life, and avoid being ripped to shreds in the process?

Omegas (Vanguards, #1) Reviews

    Three and a half
A quick almost quirky read from this author that introduces a Werewolf Pack, a Vampire and their human neighbour. The neighbour is Sugar, the Werewolves are the Omegas and the Vampire is Daedalus who is there to teach the Weres how to stand up for themselves ! So not exactly what I expected although I did enjoy reading about how those Wolves who are perhaps less aggressive could band together.
This story is a romance though and its Sugar and Daedalus who dominate. As much as I liked that Sugar is such a good friend of the Pack next door I just couldn't really understand why a Vampire as seemingly powerful as Daedalus would agree to train the Omegas. For me it was a conundrum and as much as I wanted to like this book I just felt it lacked chemistry. Plus it's all wrapped up quickly and neatly so I'm left unsure of how to rate this one. It's the first in the series though so hopefully the author will add more layers to broaden the overall plot with characters that I can believe in.

I am a huge fan of this author, and this book had me feeling so many different emotions throughout. The hero is fierce yet adorably vulnerable, the tension and love scenes were...shall we say, whew (you might need a fan)! The characters are introduced here and will be focused on in subsequent books in this series, but they have all been introduced in such a way that I WANT to learn more about each of them, which isn't always the case in a series of novels. I just started book 2, The Alpha!

  • Cathica

Very short book. There wasn't any chemistry between H/H, they just jump each other like horny teenagers.
"Oh! look at all those luscious curves. You look like a 50's pin-up girl, baby" "Oh! and you are really, really muscular. Your chest and your arms and everything else. Let's have sex on the kitchen counter, you sexy vampire!!!" So not my cup of tea.

This story could have been really good, but it fell very short of it's potential.

Sugar is friends with an outcast pack of werewolves called the Omegas. The pack hires a vampire to teach them how to fight so they can answer a challenge by a much larger pack. Daedalus, the vampire in question, takes an immediate liking to Sugar but she just wants her life to be more normal.

This had it's moments but just felt incomplete and a bit silly at times...poor editing did not help. There is references to all of the characters' histories but no real stories so you never really got a good feel for them. The Accords between supernaturals the whole idea that they "came out" to become citizens...just a few things I thought should have had more of a place in the story so you could fully understand the world they were living in.

The perfect middle ground. I’ve read everything I can get my hands on in the Not This series and in the Angler series. This sits perfectly between them both. Having all the supernatural politics and double-crossing of the Angler with the sweet silliness of Not This along with the steamy sensuality found in both, Omegas (and I suspect the whole Vanguard series) is the perfect combination of the best of both worlds. I thought Sugar was like so many of us; just trying to do her very best with what she has available during some very difficult times. Deadalus is a wonderful mix of sweet and dominant. Together, they’re an explosive mix – in good and bad ways. I loved this introduction to the Omega pack and I can’t wait to read more about them.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.

An absolutely kick ass book! The Omega’s arena awesomw Werewolf group that need a bit of help from a Vampire. Needless to say things get hot and neighbors are not all one would expect them to be lol. Love theses characters, they are a full bodied group of characters that you just can’t help but love. The storyline is fun and upbeat, and it carries you from beginning to end with a smile on your face. An absolute great read!

    Surprisingly good

This story surprised me. I thought it was just a werewolf story. I surprised to find out the main Hero was a vampire. He just happened to be a kind hearted vampire who helps a pack of werewolves, named the Omegas, save their pack against a aggressive pack. In the mean time he falls in love with their friend Sugar.

  • Erotic Horizon

When an ultimatum is sent to a bunch of were outcast by the local wolf pack alpha, they have no idea what to do. Why, because they are not fighters, they are not aggressors in general they are not even confident if truth be told – they need help.

With very little option left to them, they hire Daedalus – a powerful vamp to train them up in time to take on what ever is coming their way.

In the midst of this little pack power struggle is Sugar, Sugar is a human who just happen to be friends with a pack of werevolves and now it seems a vamp. Sugar is where she wants to be and the only thing that causes a bump in her day is worrying for her friends and the attraction that Daedalus seem to have for her.

With an alpha type vamp who has seen too much and bemoans all that has been forgotten now in residence – both the Omegas and Sugar soon start to feel like running away might have been a more suitable option than to stay and learn to fight. Daedalus however never loses and he has plans to make The Omegas ready for the fight of their lives.

I love reading book where an author mixes up the paranormal species and right from a few pages into THE OMEGAS I was invested in the battle between The Omegas and the local pack alpha as well as their struggle to find a place for themselves on their own terms..

The cast that Ms Nicholas put together was a nice bunch, with their varied personality and unknown stories – it made for a fast read and I am hoping that each of these set of people end up getting a story for themselves eventually.

While the core of the book is actually about the training that Daedalus put The Omega through a sweet romance developed between Sugar and Daedalus and it was really cute to watch dominant Daedalus skirt around Sugar while still trying to play the bad guy to the outcast. Sugar was no sweet thing as her name might suggest – she gave as good as she got and I had to grin at some of the antics they got up to.

I do like the plotline and I am hoping that with another book Ms Nicholas delve a bit more into this world that the omegas are striving to carve a place for themselves into.

THE OMEGA book is a first book in a series and a short read at that and as such most of the small stuff kinda slotted itself right within a few page – the big stuff still needs to be resolved and I am off to read book two.

I thought this was a fun, sweet, sexy and quick read..

I dont know why, maybe because every single vamp in other books, have long hair, but I loved that this one had a shaved head.. And with his ocean blue eyes..? HOT!

We got some really steamy sex scenes, which I'm definitely not complaining about, and I thought the plot was interesting too..

All in all, a very good book, and I'm excited to see what number 2 in the series, is all about..

  • Notorious Book Tease

I read the first book in this author's Vanguard Bootcamp series and decided to read this book, which is the original series. Daedalus is a centuries old vampire who has become bored with his life. He runs a security business, but rarely does hands on work. Daedalus decides to offer his help to a group of misfit werewolves. Each of these werewolves is an omega who has left their pack after being mistreated. The local pack has challenged these omega werewolves to a dual, but these werewolves are geeks not gladiators. Daedalus is going to whip them into shape. Sugar is a sweet woman who has stood by her childhood friend even after he became a werewolf. She just wants a quite life after her chaotic childhood. Then she meets Daedalus. She is instantly attracted to him, but she doesn't agree with his methods of training the werewolves. Daedalus woos Sugar into his bed and eventually hopes to work his way into her heart. Sugar's continues to resist her feelings. She gets a little annoying with her almost "dislike" of vampires and werewolves. Eventually Daedalus and Sugar get a Happy For Now. We don't know what their future is. This was a quick read that I overall liked. There wasn't a lot of background on Daedalus. We do get some info on Sugar's childhood. This is short so there was minimal character development, but Sugar does change a little with her feelings toward supernaturals. There wasn't anything overtly wrong with this book, but I didn't "love" it. I just "liked" it, thus the three stars.

  • thehotmesslibrary

This book was an okay read, meaning it wasn't too bad but it also wasn't the best book I had ever read. This is a paranormal read which centres around a vampires, omega werewolves and a human. Due to circumstance the Omegas have been challenged by the cities Alpha (a fight to the death), their only option is to hire a vampire warrior to help them win.
The Omegas are a soft group of werewolves who wouldn't do well in a pack so they live with their human friend Sugar (a quiet librarian), all who want to live in peace and just get on with their lives. when an ultimatum is given to by the Chicago Alpha in a fight to the death the Omegas decide to contact Daedalus ( an ancient, bald headed vampire) to help them defeat the Alpha. What ensues is training and a romance with Sugar, which is a little bit ordinary.
Sugar is around Omegas all day and although she is somewhat accepting, she is less so when it comes to her vampire lover who isn't allowed to bite her. I actually found her a bit of an ordinary character, where I didn't know if I liked her or not.
Saying that, this books is a short, easy read. There are also more books in this series and it would be interesting to see where it goes.

  • Nikki Brooks

Sugar has found herself the default Alpha female in this ragtag pack of Omegas. They may be refugees from various other packs for whatever reason, but they now call Chicago and seem to assume that as the best friend of their Alpha, Eric, she is going to be his mate!

But the neighbouring pack is not happy and lays down a challenge to the Omegas and if they lose they will be absorbed into the aggressive pack - not good when most of them have suffered abuse in the same type of pack! So Eric uses his ingenuity and hires them a trainer. He even comes with his own accommodation - a glossy black coffin!

Daedalus is surprised at the request he received from Chicago but he is getting a tad restless so maybe the change will do him good! However, he did not expect to meet Sugar, the sweet little neighbour of his new recruits. Or to fall in love with her!

Sugar, like most of us, when handed lemons determines to make the best damn lemonade she can! She will protect her friends to the best of her ability and she will NOT let some blood-sucking vampire take advantage of them! Daedalus is a great mix of Alpha male, sweet and respectful and tyrant when it comes to training!

I cannot wait to see what happens next!

*Sigh* I am at 30% on my Kindle and I know very little about the Omegas that wasn't mentioned in the Amazon or Goodread blurbs. I do know that the human and the vampire are really hot for each other - and I know all the ways they want each other - and I know exactly how their first sexual experience with each other went. Now, if I had wanted to read an erotic paranormal human/vampire book, that would have been great! - and I would have rated it more highly. Sadly, I expected a story about a group of young werewolves who did not fit into standard pack dynamics - seen through the eyes of their human neighbor, who incidentally also has the hots for their vampire trainer, who may return the feeling.
I have never read anything by this author before, so maybe this is the type of book she normally writes and I should have known better. - and maybe, now that SEX has occurred, we can get on with learning more about the Omegas as individual characters and as they pertain to the conflict with the other pack. - but I really don't care anymore. I may pick this up later - because I find the concept of a pack of 'omegas' intriguing and live in hope of further exploration on that theme - but I'm done for now.

Annie Nicholas always brings it when she writes her supernatural romance books. In this book, we are introduced to the Omegas, some of your average every day people who happen to be were animals. In Chicago, the packs are required to be absorbed by the main pack, which is led by an abusive alpha who has challenged the Omegas, for creating their own pack.

The main character, Sugar (with a runaway twin named Spice), is a human who’s had a rough go in life, but her best friend is a werewolf and she lives next door to his pack. The pack enlists the help of a Nosferatu vampire, to train for the challenge so that they have some hope or defeating the alpha.

The vampire, Daedalus, who comes to train the pack has some instant chemistry with Sugar. Can she go outside her comfort zone and be with a vampire? And will her best friends in the pack of Omegas be able to overcome the challenge or find themselves at the mercy of the evil pack? If you want to know, pick up a copy! There’s definitely some sizzling scenes!!!

Believe it or not, I read this book after reading several others in the series. I had really enjoyed all of the others so it wasn’t surprising for me to enjoy this one as well. I believe this was intended to be the first in the series, as subsequent books refer to Daedelus, but we never really get to know him. He features prominently in this one, and he’s much sweeter than I would have imagined.

I’m a big fan of Annie Nicholas and have yet to read something I didn’t like. This is no exception. It’s not her best, but it’s better than a lot of stuff out there. If I had one complaint it would be that the book was too short and didn’t delve into the various characters enough. Perhaps, the author will focus on other characters in future books. I hope so. Meanwhile, I definitely recommend this one, and I’d even go so far as to suggest you read it first.

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. The Omegas by Annie Nicholas is Book 1 of the Vanguards series. This is a rerelease of a series that was reworked and is delivered as a new and improved version. I read it in it's former format (and I loved it then) and read it again last night (and yes, I love it again!). This is a sweet and spicy series that will have you falling in love with the wonderful characters and touching storyline. You have werewolf nerds and outcasts, a human librarian best friend, a sexy and dangerous vampire and trouble! What else do you need!?! There are sweet touching moments, nerve wracking interactions and the hot promise of love. A great read that is worth the effort! Mature Readers Please.

    Fascinating and funny vampire story

Daedalus is a vampire who has live long, trying to do good, and sales his services to the Omega Pack of werewolves. The Omega Pack
needs help because they are a bunch of geeks and misfits
Sugar is a human neighbor that is friends with the Omega Pack. Eric the leader has to fight another pack's Alpha.

Daedalus trains the Omega Pack to fight. Sugar lusts after Daedalus and he after her. Are they a falling in love?

I love the characters because they are so relatable, funny, intriguing, and sexy. The sexy scenes are hot. The drama is fast-paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

This is an exciting book that I would highly recommend.

  • Leopardwolf

    I love the characters
The way she grabs me and keeps me riveted with her characters and story lines is nothing short of spellbinding. I was so enraptured with this book that I needed to use the bathroom but the book was in a particularly gripping point - an hour later I was still turning pages while keeping my legs crossed! You know you're loving a book when it will not release you from its grip in order to use the bathroom. I went when I finished the book. Phew!
I am excited to see where the other characters are going and I'm hoping this will be a multi book series.
(Note to self: watch the fluid intake when reading Annie Nicholas books!)

    Quiet doesn't mean weak

    2.75 Stars
I fell in love with Annie Nicholas when I first read her Not This series. So naturally I wanted to read her other books. This is what has happened. The story started out great you get background and plot setup all done excellently. There is character detail and imagery. Considering this book is barely 100 pages the only thing that there would be to complain about is that it is ONLY 100 pages :(
Just imagine what Annie could have done with a longer book. :?
But than again let's not. It takes art to condense a good story down so we may have an excellent 1 day read. :)

    Such a Sweet Novel

Short, sweet, paranormal. So many amazing favorites, I loved the sweet comedy and the fun with the characters.

A pack of five runaway omegas come together in an apartment next top Eric's best friend since childhood. Eric hires a vampire to reach them to fight because the official pack has issued a challenge to absorb the omegas into submission. There is so much that happens that run deeper than the blurb can possibly justify.

I think it could have used a bit more drama, considering the misconception of Sugar being Eric's mate. I really want to read book two when available.

  • Patti

    Overall rating: 4.8

Truly unique for me, this storyline highlights the roles ( or supposed roles) of the omegas in pack life. I thoroughly enjoyed the new perspective! Having Daedalus involved from the get go added an additional layer of mystic to the tale. Love that this author did not hold back on the dark side of things. There are definitely steamy pages throughout this book so this is for mature eyes only. This first in a series hit everything on the nail to keep this reader interested! Looking forward to book two. All my reviews are always voluntarily written.

This book was awesome. I devoured it in one sitting. Sugar is best friends with Eric who became a wolf and started his own "pack" is misfit wolves. They're all omega wolves that didn't like getting crapped on by more dominant wolves. However, they're in another packs territory and that pack has issued a fight. So what does a pack of omegas and a human do? Call in a vampire to train them of course! And what a fine vampire he is! He's very alpha with a dry sense of humor! Sugar and Daedalus have instant chemistry. I loved this book and can't wait to read Sugars twins story

  • Fran

I got this because I love, love, love this author and she did not disappoint. Her books are always fun, quirky, and written with the right combination of sexy and sweet. I loved the vampire intro (read the first few pages of his introduction into the story and you will understand). Chair leg, it's truly beautiful in a humorous way. I cannot wait for more in this series, and I truly hope we get stories of all the original omega pack because they are a bundle of pups in need, and more importantly deserving, of true love.

  • Linda Levine

This is the first book in the series featuring Sugar who is on her own and living a quiet life until the supernatural intrudes when her friends' pack is challenged. It brings an interesting vampire into her life and suddenly things are anything but simple.

Sugar really know show to stand up for herself and I enjoyed seeing her and Daedalus tempt each other out of their comfort zones. They have great chemistry.

The next book in the series features her twin sister, Spice, returning to town. I recommend you read it too.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

How Do You Fall for a vampire?

Annie Nicholas beings her Vanguards series with book one, Omegas.

A fun read, we meet Sugar and her best friend Eric, who is in the process of dealing with his future as a newly made werewolf. As the story develops, Sugar has some of her own growing to do, as she is faced with the knowledge of not only werewolves, but an alluring vampire, that she can’t get out of her mind.

Sorry for the quick review, but I am off to read the second book in the series, Alphas!

  • Pamela Gramlisch

    Fun Read

The Omegas are just a few damaged werewolves that aren't aggressive type of wolves. Their leader Eric grew up with a human, Sugar who looks like a 1950's pinup model. Then the Omegas are threatened by Chicago top werewolf gang who wants to take them over. The Omegas call on Vampire Warrior Daedalus Pal Robi and sign a contract with him to train them for an Alpha to Alpha fight. Steamy romance between Sugar and Daedalus. This has a happy ending. I really like the writing of Annie Nicholas.

  • Casey

This could have been a great book. It wasn't. There was more sex than plot. The main characters didn't know each other before the insta-lust hit. Sugar (seriously...her name is Sugar?) is irritating and dumber than dirt. They should have let the werewolf eat her. The book was really short. I got the feeling a lot in the middle was cut out. I actually looked back to see if I had accidentally skipped a few chapters. Nope. If you like bad porn with no plot, this may be for you. It's not my cup of tea.

    A Vampire Training a Wolf-pack – Great Story!!

A pack of omegas (and strays) is challenged by a larger pack so hires Daedalus, a vampire, to teach them to fight. Their human neighbor Sugar attracts the attention of Daedalus setting off a chain of events which culminate in a highly entertaining story.

Pack politics, vampires, danger and romance are terrific ingredients of this exciting read!
