Gain A Bride For His Majestys Pleasure Prepared By Penny Jordan EBook
laughed on more than one occasion, but I seriously doubt PJ meant this ohso earnest ROMANCE as a comedy of manners,
Penny Jordan creates an alternate dark universe for this manufactured angsty romance as if the manners and rules of HPland arent bizarre enough,
The hero has inherited a kingdom that is so archaic they want to and could stone the heroine to death for the adultery and general vapid behavior of her sister unless she dun dun dunnnnnn marries the H.
Shes lured back by an evil Count to marry the boringstalwart Prince as compensation to the dishonor on the House of SoForthandSoOn,
Stoning aside, these two arent a couple you want at a dinner party, Oh, they wont steal the silver, they are too busy patting themselves on the back for being upright, forthright and honorable, They will, unfortunately, suck all the oxygen from the room when the heroine is not in a snit over some imagined slight like the hero passing the salt to someone else.
Heroine”
Once it was my dream and my hope that I might work for the Veritas Foundation and learn from such a master, That was not to be, but there is something I can do for the people of Fortenegro, even if it is merely a small shadow of what he has done.
Just as he educates the children of today so that they can grow to be to the leaders of tomorrow, I thought that as your wife I could provide Fortenegro with the ruler it so desperately needs.
I hoped to conceive and raise a son who would be all the things that he will need to be to help this island, That was my hidden agenda in marrying you, No scheming to sell off the minerals that lie beneath the mountains, Ionanthe told him on a slightly shaky breath,
Guess who the awesome, selfsacrificing man she worships, Yep, the hero. This really shouldnt be a problem, but it is,
Max simply did not know what to say or do to make things right, He knew what he wanted to say he knew what he wanted to do, But he also knew that the very last thing Ionanthe would want to hear from him right now was that her herothe man she admired more than any other, the man she had placed on a pedestal and at whose feet she had openly and proudly confessed she yearned to sit and learnwas no other than himself.
When she finds out that shes married to the man she thinks is totally awesome, does she say, “Yay!” Heck no,
Her pride stung, as though it had received a thousand savage cuts,
How Max must have inwardly laughed at her when she had confided to him her admiration for the head of Veritas, unknowingly extolling his virtues, for all the world like some naive teenager filled with heroworship.
All she had to hold on to now was her pride, But she had survived before without love, without anyone to turn to,
He wasnt, Laughing that is.
HEA eventually, but only after a laughable but daring feat of derring where the hero rescues a plot moppet from a scary downhill fall on a snowy mountain.
No bruise or pain can keep them from their love!
The passionate couple
Alternate ending
Glad I did not get too attached to these two as I have no doubt that the evil Count will pop them off after the heir and maybe the spare come along.
Then we can get a nice damaged hero and his story of revenge on the downtrodden daughter of the evil Count who is either really downtrodden and pathetic or merely hiding her downtroddenness under a facade of bad party girl.
Reader's choice.
for the romance
for the ridiculousness of the tropes and angst, stars.
The debt
Ionanthe will leave her freedom at the castle doors, Ancient laws demand an eye for an eyeshe must pay the price for her sister's mistake,
The payment
Recently crowned Prince Max plans to bring change to his country, but only after his new bride has arrivedas settlement for the debt he is owed.
The price
A ruthless ruler and his virgin queen, Trembling with the fragility of a new spring bud, Ionanthe will go to her husband: She was given as penance, but he'll take her for pleasure! Leído el fine I've read a lot of Penny Jordan books and I agree with the another reviewer of this book featured on Amazon reviews she was a great writer who wrote thoughtful wellwritten books which have brought her many readers a lot of pleasure.
However, this is not one of them,
The book begins with the ridiculous premise that Prince Max becomes the new ruler of the fiercely patriarchal, and basically third world dictatorship led principality called Fortenegro.
Everyone lives in poverty, herding sheep, not educating their children, tugging forelocks to the rich elite and stoning women to death in their free time, As an act of vengeance for the fact that his first wife cheated on him and failed to provide an heir, he gets to demand the body of her sister for his new bride.
She either has to marry him or become the next live entertainment and get stoned to death,
From this unpromising and distinctly unromantic setting, Max and Ionanthe are thrust together, fall in love, and end up thrusting together quite a lot sod the peasants.
No, but it's okay, because Max is basically an enlightened dictator and he's going to bring equality to the peasants when he manages to get out of bed with Ionanthe and Ionanthe is going to fight to bring peace and justice there too when she eventually gets out of bed too.
As if hurrying to regain lost romantic ground, the latter part of the story is set in a fairytale castle where they get snowed in for Christmas.
There's an awful lot more sensuality in this story than some of the others of Jordan's works and it's not a great book for it, There's a very uncomfortable scene with some figs which it pains me to recall, Consider Max's fantasies: "Even without closing his eyes and focusing his senses he could imagine the silky softness of her hair against his own skin, its scent her scent heated by desire to release its erotic frangrance into the air, filling his nostrils.
Her head would be thrown back against his arm, her eyes a passionglazed glitter between thick dark lashes, her lips swollen from their shared kisses and eagerly parted, proclaiming her pleasure and her desire for more as she smiled invitingly up at him.
" What a load of rubbish, To be frank, Prince/Dictator Max has been reading far too many Mills and Boons,
My overall feeling was that Jordan had attemped an overly ambitious attempt at romance in a too serious setting and it just hasn't worked, In short, she should have stuck to nannies and secretaries falling for their bosses in the typing pool!
There are a few romantic lines towards the end of the book, but generally it doesn't sit too comfortably together what with the peasants and all the undernourished children running about.
I've got to say this is one of the worst Penny Jordan books I've ever read and I normally love all her stuff v, disappointing. It left me feeling that, like Max, I'd read one too many Mills and Boons as well, My first Penny Jordan. How do I say this, . . I feel that each sentence is too long and complex, While they mean to describe the situation, they end up annoying me, Despite that, I like how the writer portrays misunderstanding, No, it's not the usual "cruel hero, misunderstood heroine", I like that they both misundertand one another, At some point, I even pity the hero and almost snapped at the heroine, Oh, and it feels more like a historical than harlequin to me, Instasex, instamistrust and instalove. Stop thinking/having/agonising over sex and go help the poor people! !! well, lumayan okayish and fast read, a very cliché but entertaining story , the only reason i gave itit is because the main female lead got on my nerves a couple of times Konflik awal cukup bagus.
. Tpi penyelesaian yang membosankan. Gak heran perlu tiga hari buat selesai Man, I got so excited when I read the blurb for this book, Sadly, I was a bit blah about it, This is not a bad book, It's pretty good in fact, but it failed to come to life for me, I felt like there was way too much internal dialog, and too little action, Don't get me wrong, I love being inside the character's head, but I needed to have some 'doing' to go with it,
There were some parts I really liked, Such as the delayed wedding night, "Phew!" I guess he showed her what to do with her passionless sex to create the needed male heir, I also liked how he refused to have her bow down and kiss his feet at the wedding, as expected I almost threw up in mouth on that part when she was supposed to that.
My opinion of him was pretty good, but it went up significantly after that, I liked how their values were very similar although they didn't realize it at the time of the marriage,
Overall, I think Ms, Jordan a long time favorite author in this line, although not as much now did a great job with the royalty/arranged marriage theme, but this book needed to 'pop' more.
I refuse to believe that it takes a jerk hero for these books to knock your socks off, So I hope that more authors in this line can use ast century man, but bring that "Wow" factor to these books, Nice book, all in all, Max is the ruler of a very antiquated country and after his wife dies with another man, the people of his country demand that her sister pay the price of honor.
So, Ionanthe, the sister, is trapped into marrying Max and providing him with an heir, She decides she's willing if only to conceive a son whom she will raise to be an enlightened ruler who will change things for her country, But what she doesn't realize is that Max is already that enlightened ruler,
Ionanthe was ridiculous, Straight up idiot. I disliked her. This stubborn woman I couldn't decide if she was TSTL or what, First she decides to approach her marriage with this godawful notion of conceiving a ruler, . . the way she dreams about it was just weird, Most women think about having a baby, someone to love and nurture, She dreams about birthing a king, And for some reason she wants the whole procreation deal to be cold and clinical, despite Max's insistence on it being pleasurable for both of them, She comes across as the greatest shrew in the world, challening his masculinity at every turn and generally being a bitch, And afternights of his not showing up, she wonders why he's a no show, Could it be her behavior A little bit, In reality, Max is some kind of turned on by this shrewish behavior and doesn't want to risk his heart, Then there's her refusal to see Max's goodness despite AMPLE evidence of his reforming nature, she keeps thinking he's some sort of conservative despot, And I still, for the life of me, cannot figure out why she got so upset with Max when he told her he was the head of the foundation.
. . as though it were some big secret or something, One would think that if she was so enamored with the foundation and its good deeds and actually wanted to work for them, she'd have done the research to find out who the head honcho was, right He didn't actually keep anything from her, so why the anger Because he didn't trust her She was guilty of the same things.
I don't know, This book just didn't make sense, Or maybe it was that the heroine didn't make any sense, I couldn't enjoy it because I kept getting distracted by her weird ass behavior, To be fair, I did like Max and wish he had a much better heroine, He seemed somewhat reasonable except for falling in love with Ionanthe and was reasonably suspicious of a woman he didn't know, Sebenarnya tidak ada yang salah dengan buku ini, Premisnya lebih menarik, setidaknya cukup menarik buatku, Tapi yang aku sesali adalah, terlalu banyak pembicaraan antara si hero atau heroine dengan diri mereka sendiri, Dan itu bisa lebih dari satu lembar, Membosankan buatku. Aku meskip sebagian besar.
