The Penguin Book of Card Games: Everything You Need to Know to Play Over 250 Games Reviews

Parlett is an expert on the history and playing of card games, yet he has managed to produce this wonderful compendium in a way that is easy for any layman to read and absorb. Whether you are interested in an overview of the history and development of card games and the different families or just want to dive in and play a new game or check the rules of an old favourite, it is ideal. For me, it has opened up a whole new world of diverse, challenging or just enjoyable, sociable games using German suited cards which I had never come across. Our friends and family just love playing them. If you like card games and enjoy something new, buy it.

Bought as a present for a poker loving couple, to give them other game ideas suitable for just two players. Having scanned through it briefly before wrapping it, I was impressed with the detail given to such a large number of games and variations. Would recommend for fans of card games of all ages.

I should have read all the blurb before purchase, fairly new to Card games I wrongly assumed it would contain rules and advice on 'Solo' One Player' like different versions of Solitaire and Patience games. Not included In this Book. Disappointed, but delivery was swift

What an interesting book. It opens up a whole new world, not just of card games but the culture of them. Even if you never actually play a game (and the instructions are fine, you just need to read some of the supporting info to understand stuff like scoring systems etc) it makes a great read.

Haven’t had a proper look through it yet, but from what I’ve seen so far, it certainly seems to include instructions on how to play all the popular card games, as well as some less well known ones.
