You Can Heal Your Life Reviews

Not suitable for UK market. Very American."Releasing resentment will dissolve even cancer"?Claims you personally choose your parents before you are conceived. This book is not for me.

The most offensive book ever. I am not easily offended, but she has listed most diseases and the probable reasons behind them. Cystic Fibrosis said 'poor me' and deafness is because 'you don't want to hear something from someone'. An absolute ridiculous joke of a book. The author is probably sat in her Beverley Hills mansion, laughing at everyone who has ever purchased this book (I purchased it for the mental health day at work so wish I never as I won't be handing it out to anyone!)

So glad I purchased this book. I’ve not read any of Louise Hays work before. It’s helped me to establish affirmation work and I’ve been using them daily for a couple of weeks. I have had a few breaks since. Call it coincidence or the power of high vibrations who know eh! I found the book best read in chapters, slowly, with some journaling alongside for deeper thinking. I feel I will need to read it a second time.. I like her no nonesnese approach and brutal honesty. Real life case study examples add substance to Louise’s theories. R.I.P lady, your legacy continues and thank you for helping so many people including me.

I had to laugh when I read some the surrounding negative reviews. Yes, she's American, yes she's a bit religious, and 'the list' does attribute many of the bodily problems with somewhat questionable causes, but you have to take that with a pinch of salt. What this book does do is open your mind to the possibility that your past experiences and self worth have had, and continue to have an effect on your health. Like many others, I found this book to be life changing because for the first time in my life I realised how much anger and resentment I had towards my parents in particular, and how I'd essentially been self harming for my entire adult life because of how I felt as a child. I had cancer in my early twenties, way before I read this, and unlike some reviewers here who were deeply offended and angry at the suggestion that we cause these dis eases ourselves, I happen to agree in my case. I'd been angry, bitter, smoked, drank, took drugs, had a poor diet, resented my parents and felt hopeless, and it figures that the complete lack of self love, and respect for my body made me vulnerable to cancer and other conditions. Even if you think Miss Hay is away with the fairies, and that some of her notions are nonsense, there will be things in this book that will resonate with you and help you in some way. I have purchased it for four people so far, and I think it's a very special book that everyone should read especially those who are struggling or suffering ill health.

On the one hand this is the mother of all self help books lots about affirmations, self love, the inner child etc that has since been rewritten / resold by countless self help writers. Reading it you’ll spot a lot of ideas commonly spouted by women’s magazines. On the other hand the author has what can only be described as medieval ideas about why people get physically ill. Ie it’s not hormones / viruses / bacteria / bad luck you cause your own illnesses by holding onto resentments and not loving yourself. There’s a truly bizarre list at the back where she explains away a huge number of illnesses, attributing them, not to scientific biological causes, but to errors in patients’ thinking. Eg she writes that syphilis is caused by giving away your power, spots are caused by outbursts of anger and epilepsy is caused by a sense of persecution. Elsewhere she writes that people chose to be poor and ill. It’s hard to take any of the potentially positive aspects of her book (eg around self acceptance and self esteem) seriously when she has such nonsensical ideas about medicine.
