One Fine Stooge: Larry Fines Frizzy Life in Pictures Reviews

This was the fourth Stooge biography that I've read recently, and is in the running for the best of the bunch. (I'm not very good at picking a single favorite of anything, but it's a bit easier to declare a tie.)The title is somewhat misleading, in that it suggests that this is just a book of photos, and contains little else. Not an accurate description! Neither is it entirely about Larry, as it would be impossible to write a complete biography about Larry without bringing the other 5 Stooges. (Yes, 5: Moe, Curly, Shemp, Joe and Curly Joe.)This book brought me closer to Larry the person than any of the others, and filled in most of the historical events of significance too. It's clear from the portrait of Larry that is painted in this book that Larry was far and away the most likeable Stooge, and it isn't hard to see why. He loved the fans, and they could tell. Even when he was in declining health and forced to give up his career as a performer, he would visit schools, show films, give talks and answer questions, not to mention doing much the same for fans who came to visit him after his forced retirement. Moe, always the businessman, was doing similar appearances for significant fees at colleges and other venues, but Larry usually appeared for the benefit of the school, or to promote some other worthy cause. This was also well written, with fewer grammatical slips or typos than the others. But let's come back to the photos, now that we've covered the prose. The photos in this book comprise the best collection of any one of the Stooges books I've read. (Excluding the Scrapbook, which seems to be the other exceptional Stooges book, which I am still reading.)Very good and appropriately for Larry, perhaps the most personal book about the most personable Stooge.

Top notch, quality, biography of Larry Fine, the middle stooge of the 50 year entertainment comedy legacy known as The Three Stooges.Based on Larry Fine's scrapbook and memoir archives, courtesy of co author Jim Terry, the book is thoroughly researched, and lovingly presented without pulling any punches. Larry Fine's personal and professional life is told via insights and recollections from Fine family members, photos and memorabilia of life long fans & researchers of the Three Stooges and most importantly, Larry Fine's own memoirs fill the book with newly revealed stories and photos.Cumberland House took the authors' efforts, and packaged everything into a first class publishing effort.Author Steve Cox, who already has a long publishing resumé filled with entertainment tributes to THE TONIGHT SHOW, IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, and numerous TV sitcoms, has topped himself. If you're a fan of The Three Stooges, this book is required reading and demands a place in your library.

From the colorful cover to the pages inside this is one of the best books written on or about the three stooges. altough it is Larry's biography there are enough stories and photos on all the stooges. it is wonderfully written lavishly illustrated and just a fine read. there are several other books on the three stooges. but I would put this one in the top 3. what a wonderful work by the authors about the wonderful work of larry fine. a showbiz bio that has informed what life was really like as a stooge. and it is as fun to look through as it is to read. three cheers to the authors for a fine book. it is a real find

I must say that this was a really great read. Larry's story is very interesting. The authors (Steve Cox & Jim Terry) have done an excellent job of researching Larry and bringing his story to life. There is even an introduction that tells the story of the making of this book. Even though this book was released years after his death, Larry actually started this book himself, and with that, Messrs. Cox & Terry have his blessing. I highly recommend this to all fans of The Three Stooges.

I have been a Three Stooges fan for decades and thought I knew a lot about the middle stooge. I learned so mich about Larry Fine from reading this book This book gives you a close look into Larry's personal life and his interaction with the rest of the stooges. In addition to a great story the book has an incredible collection of pictures. I caught myself so caught up in the story while I was reading it that I missed some of the pictures. After I was done reading it I went back through it page by page and enjoyed all of the wonderful photos. This book is very thoughtfully written and I'm sure Larry Fine would be proud. My hat goes off to Steve Cox and Jim Terry. Tanks for writing such a wonderful book. Any stooge fan would be proud to have this in their collection.
