Johan Egerkrans Norse Gods /anglais Reviews
-
On the plus side, the illustrations are very nice and the pages are thick. Its a beautiful book and my first impressions were that it was worth every penny. On the other hand, the stories themselves (and the descriptions of the gods) are quite brief. Too brief in my opinion. I already know the stories and so enjoyed the book nonetheless but I can't help but feel that a person reading the stories for the first would be missing out on interesting detail. I can't recommend this book for its storytelling its a book of artwork with accompanying text. The text itself has a couple of problems. The choice has been taken to remove all norse letters, so, for example, 'eth', the letter that looks like a d with a line through it and is pronounced like the 'th' in 'this' or 'that' is rendered as the letter 'd'. So a reader new to the subject would pronounce 'Skadi' as it appears on the page rather than as Skathi. This is a shame but perhaps i'm being harsh.I don't feel its harsh, though, to be disappointed by the frequent spelling mistakes and missing words. These should have been picked up before publication. It doesn't appear to be a translation problem but lack of proofreading. When you're charging a premium price I don't think you can cut corners. In short, its a lovely book that either needs to be cheaper or needs to be corrected.

This book was even better than it looked in the reviews. The quality is lovely and there is a beautiful illustration on pretty much every page that compliments the text perfectly. Highly recommend!
