This thrilling photo book features previously unpublished photographs from the NASA archives, now meticulously digitized, captured by the Apollo astronauts during their missions. From some 27,000 NASA images, the book's authors have curated 225 of the most remarkable Apollo mission pictures, creating a uniquely vivid document of one of the most seminal events of the 20th century. Accompanying these extraordinary Apollo photographs are little known insider facts and fascinating insights into the Apollo missions, including a detailed Foreword from NASA astronaut, Walter Cunningham. Not only a must have book for fans of air and space travel, Apollo VII XVII is a hit for anyone interested in photography, pop culture, and modern history.

Libro stupendo, foto meraviglioseL'ho regalato a mio papà e ne è rimasto entusiasta

This is an excellent collection of Apollo era photos, all extremely well reproduced. Frustratingly, it could have been even better if they'd left out half a dozen or so of the rather pointless images, and put in of the "classic" well known shots. But apparently it was a deliberate decision to leave out many of the "tourist" photos. The problem is of course, that this is not now the ultimate collection in one volume, that I had rather hoped for, and enthusiasts such as myself will have to buy other books as well. For example Full Moon by Michael Light, which all adds up to a considerable expenseI spotted 2 small mistakes in the text, not crucial but potentially confusing. The negative size of 70mm. film is of course 70 x 70 mm. not 6x6 (whatever that means). And the explanation of Zero Phase is muddled to say the least. In this context, zero phase means a shot taken with the sun directly behind the camera nothing to do with eclipses!

One world. stunningBeautiful matt cover and proper stitched binding not glewed so you can bend the pages flat to truly enjoy the photos. Not a lot of print in it which is a good thing because it doesn't distract from the amazing photography that it contains.Highly recommended for anyone who was around at the time they were taken and anyone else with an interest in photography or the Apollo missions

As you would expect when you open the book there is a wonderful series of images from Apollo 7 to 17. But that is not all, and my advice to anyone who wishes to get the best out of this book is to then read the short introduction by astronaut Walter Cunningham and the last section entitled 'Behind the Photographs'. Without becoming too technical the authors have succinctly conveyed the evolution of space photography and also the sheer challenge of taking images when wearing a space suit and helmet. It is easy to take these images for granted but when you learn that conventional lubrication within the camera would boil on the moon's surface you begin to appreciate the camera innovation that accompanied space exploration.Returning to the images I would say they all have their place. Dare I use the word mundane in the context, but the image of space suits stacked within the craft is somehow a real sense of living in such a cramped space in contrast to the glamour of EVA. The explanatory text is economical but well written. Re reading the intro and the last section has become part of the pleasure of this wonderful book. I can only say well done to all involved in bringing this to publication. And finally the short transcript of the radio conversation between the Apollo 11 crew and Mission Control in regard of advice on what camera and aperture should be used to take an image of the Sun's corona coming from behind the Moon encapsulates everything about this impressive book.
