Zeros and Ones: Digital Women and the New Technoculture Reviews

If you take this kind of stuff too seriously you might get triggered like the other reviewer here. I read this back in high school and enjoyed the early parts that drew parallels between the history of computing with textiles and crafts traditionally associated with women. It has plenty of the clichés to expect from a text on "cyber feminism", that's the price of admission to be expected, but I'd recommend it as some food for thought on the relationship between gender politics and technology for those new to this stuff.

This a most interesting and intriguing book. First of all it sets the record straight on the role of women in the development of technology. It also brings in the importance of weaving skills a specialty of women in the digital world. All is set in a far reaching context of social history, attitudes towards women, and insightful science fiction speculations. It is a challenging book and takes some serious reading, for it gets beneath the surface of technology where deeper implications and trends some intuited by Ada Lovelace herself leading us goodness knows where.
