on In the Heat of the Moment (Sandhamn Murders, 5)

Viveca Sten's previous books in her Sandhamn series, I very much enjoyed "In The Heat of the Moment.
" It's Midsummer's Eve an exciting day in Sweden, It's a day of celebration and parties, But on Sandhamn this Midsummer's Eve the partying gets out of hand and a young man is murdered and a girl too young to be partying so hard is found unconscious on the beach.

Viveca Sten has a way of writing that pulls me in, Her characters are so real I could almost feel their pain, frustration, and fear especially when the several young revelers were forced to confront their parents were forced to express feelings that were long repressed.
Anger and insecurities they didn't want to reveal to parents who didn't want to know, I very much liked the first two books in this series but somewhat less so three and four.
Now in number, the soap opera elements truly prevail, I also dislike the way Sten has taken to ending her novels on a note of suspense about the main characters' situations, kind of like a TV series that wants to hook the viewer into watching the next season.
I suppose I will read book, but I will wait a while, Sten writes well and the narrator on the Audible version is excellent, Sten has a way of filling up a novel with fluff, and the fluff in this mystery novel includes vulgarity and lots of vomit.
I see of some characters than I'd care to, like the teen boy urinating off of a boat.
The recurring character Nora doesn't get much of a role in this one, I guess I like the backdrop of Sweden and the island archipelago of Sten's novels but she has scraped the bottom of the barrel for this one.
Here she seems tedious than necessary in dragging out the story, Perhaps the story is true to life, life in Sandhamn, than a distant reader like myself can appreciate.
I 've read the previousSandham Murders books and this story does not disappoint another masterful piece of writing.
It helps to fill in the gaps if you have read the other books, each character has his / her own story but references to past events bring you into the picture.
Thomas and Nora lifetime friends each have their own separate stories, distinctly different careers and personal lives but their friendship is rock solid.
Descriptive narrative of the islands and surrounding areas let's you imagine what it is to live there,
A good story with many suspects and a climatic ending a well deservedreally worth a read.
This series is addictive reading, and the writing gets better with each book, “In the heat of the moment”, like previous books in the series, is a guaranteed page turner that keeps you guessing til the end.
The series differs from other Nordic noirs in that it has a much lighter atmosphere than the ominous and serious books in this genre, which adds to the entertainment and escape factor when reading.
A friend recommended these books to me, and I would recommend them in turn to anyone who is looking for a new series to sink their reading teeth into.
I have to say it's so rare to happen across an author where every book I read by her isbut that's been the case thus far with Viveca Sten.
/. . a heck of a record ! I've enjoyed them all so much,
Marlaine, her translator has done a sterling job as well, although, like other reviewers I don't understand why she persists in using American spelling, especially as she is based here in the UK !!
The only error I spotted was Ecstasy not being capitalised and that was it.
Again, without parallel these days, Such a terrific job all round from all concerned, Well done.
Of course this story also features the regular characters we've come to know and love and I was happy to see both Thomas and Nora being in happy places right now.
I do not like Jonas's daughter, however, I think she's a sly little bitch altogether, Henrik seems to be trying to wheedle his way back into Nora's affections and I hope she'll have none of that as he's always been a nasty piece of work !! The story centred around the Midsummer celebrations on Sandhamn and all the people that turn up there to party.
Too many rich kids with time on their hands and booze in their bellies just has to be a nightmare to be around every year.
And then to try and get sense out of any of them once a crime's been committed !!
It kept me guessing as usual and held my interest the whole way through.
I'm looking forward to book, A really great series I'd always recommend, What on earth is going own I have loved this series until now, Just finished reading In the Heat of the Moment and the grammar and spelling and use of the words is truly aimed at only the American audience.
Do Swedish people really say "gotten" That word is splattered throughout, The spelling is American and the phrases too, Parking Lot instead of car park, harbor instead of harbour, Gray instead of grey. Just small examples. The series is so successful, surely the translator could have translated for the British market as well as the American.
It really tainted the book as I kept imagining it was all happening in USA instead of Sandhamm.
Again I was not going to read another in the series, The quality is average. The soap opera around Nora continues, but not in a positive relevant manner, . Nora comes across as a self doubting neurotic who drivels out the poorest of platitudes time after time.
She shed her self assuredness like a hot potato skin,a failure in this book, Did the author forget what direction she wants to take her Most people who have read the Sandhamn series will know the main characters by now, both professionally and personally.
Nora has moved on from the arrogant Henrik, and Thomas is back with his wife and they now have an addition to their family.

This is another very good plot from Viveca Sten, In this case Sandhamn is invaded by hoards of teenagers

for the midsummer celebrations, but the murder of a youngster brings it to an end.
Thomas and his team have the unenviable task of questioning them, many of whom are in such a state of intoxication they seem to be unable to string two words together.
After a lot of too ing and fro ing they finally get the culprit,
I've dropped two because of the irritating and annoying translation into American which detracts from my enjoyment of these books.
The translation is so obviously aimed at the US market when isn't it and if I didn't know better these stories could quite easily be anywhere in America.
A big disappointment that we Brits have to endure!
I wonder if the authors ever read the reviews of their books.
. I have been greatly enjoying the development of the lives of Thomas, Nora and the other key characters in this series along with the mysteries that tie them all together.
This one is a little different in that the twists and turns are unexpected, The story revolves around a bunch of teenagers and provides a real insight into their world, their motivations and unintended consequences.
The detectives try to unravel it all while not always getting the real truth about what happened during Midsummer Night revelries in Sandhamn.
The author's descriptions of the islands and people of the Swedish archipelago provide much of the interest for me.
I love viveca stern books, . however why on earth is the translation in American English The details of the translator says based in Shropshire and went to Aberystwyth university.
. I found the americanisation extremely annoying and at times it distracted me from the storycan we not have the choice of British translation please!.
