In the book Dual at Araluen, the author takes pains to explain how the Araluen castle's portcullis is linked to the drawbridge, explaining how they act as a counter weight for each other so that when one goes down the other goes up.
In the open pages of The Missing Prince, the author says "The huge bridge thudded downThe riders could see the portcullis was still lowered, " There are other noticeable problems, but I don't want to provide any spoilers,
I also agree with the reviewer that complained that there was no warning that this was not a complete story in itself, I prefer to wait until all the books of a tale are published before I start the first one, It was a gift John Flanagan is an amazing writer, this makes understanding hisrd use of a cliffhanger baffling, The first time I blamed the publisher, the second time I was just disappointed, This third time I remove him from my list of instant purchases, I will wait for reviews in the future if they include cliffhanger warnings I will no longer purchase, The story itself was boring and unimaginative, not like Flanagan at all, Disappointed and confused. He did it again, just like "The Red Fox Clan", the story ends abruptly in the middle of the climax, with absolutely nothing resolved, It also ruins the last few chapters for me, because I knew the story couldn't possibly resolve and it was going to be another to be continued book.
What is it Do you need money or something I don't think I've ever read another book that stops in the middle of the climax with a to be continued slapped right below it except your other book.
Why isn't this called "The Missing Prince: Part" Why don't you just write a complete story If you want to tell a

bigger story, why aren't there sub plots that can give some satisfaction at the end Disappointing.
Why stop in the middle of a climax unless you're milking the genre, Guess we'll see the next book in a year or two Maybe you'll go the Rothfuss or Martin route now too
Well written, but severely disappointed with the decision of the stopping point.
Maddie's time as an apprentice ranger had its moments, Her mother had fought her being put into danger but her father felt that it was the best thing he could have done to turn his daughter into the resourceful and amazing person she had become.
Now, the sum of those moments began to show itself as she rushed towards her final acceptance as a ranger for the king, each moment and each adventure becomes one to remember.
Now, one of those formative moments is upon her, A secret visit from royalty in the Gallican kingdom has come to Araluen to seek the help of the legendary rangers, The king's son has been taken and is being held ransom to leverage concessions that could eventually overthrow the Gallican throne and perhaps even threaten the security and safety of Araluen itself.
And so, Maddie and her mentor Will Treaty are off to Gallica for a mission that they weren't seeking but will apply all their skills and talents to if for no other reason than a young man was in the midst of a dangerous situation that was not of his own making.
The Ranger's Apprentice has arguably been one of the most loved and exciting series of stories and adventures for young readers the pastyears.
Author John Flanagan continues to create tales that are filled with his beloved characters in a world of fantasy and action that keeps his readers enthralled and returning time and time again as each new book and story expand the legacy that Flanagan has established.
While his stories are full of strong adult figures both good AND evil the main focus has always been, per the series title, the young apprentices to those adults.
And those apprentices have aged and matured throughout the stories as Flanagan has now moved on to the next generation of young heroes in this case Maddie Altman,nd heir to the throne.
The flair and fun that he instilled in his first generation of apprentices is here again in full form as he continues the new stories and adventures.
New Readers If you are jumping in to the Ranger's Apprentice series with this as your first book, never fear, You will be able to fully enjoy this book without the need to fall back to prior stories to fill in background and historical events as the author provides details and explanations that will make the reading a joyBUTyou're going to enjoy this book so go back and read the other chapters in the journey that is the RANGER'S APPRENTICE.
Im a big fan of of John Flannagans and have followed all of the series with eagerness,
However with this one, it doesnt seem to have his usual standard, When writing a multi book story, he has usually ended on a big ending with a good cliff hanger, this just seemed to be flat, Almost like half a book,
And with that in mind, we all knew the beggar was Halt, who will have part in it, We all know that a big fight/ duel will happen with Horace, Just disappointed it didnt raise the normal enthusiasm and with that ending no planned date for the second half of it,
I will read it again but only because I will need to remember the book to read the second half when it eventually releases, Timelines are blurring a little, Starting to understand how Araluen ends up a Republic, Thank goodness for Bumpers pithy commentary, I wish I had never started reading these enchanting stories, Great stories, terrible value. I can't wait to see what comes next, consequently instead of spending abouteveryweeks or so as usual, I'm spendingeverydays or so International bestselling author John Flanagan returns to world of Rangers Apprentice in the fourth installment of the Royal Ranger series starring Maddie, Will Treatys fearless young apprentice.

Internationally bestselling author of the Rangers Apprentice and Brotherband series, John Flanagan returns in the captivating next installment of the Royal Ranger series: The Royal Ranger: The Missing Prince.
Perfect for fans of J, R. R. Tolkien, Brian Jacquess Redwall, and George R, R. Martins Game of Thrones!
Praise for The Missing Prince:
Flanagan builds suspense with well practiced skill Tension increases right up to the last page.
Booklist Ugh, another "to be continued", I truly hate that. I'd rather wait and read the whole thing at once, I wouldn't even mind paying double, but I am really bummed that I have to wait however long it takes for the rest of the book to be released to find out what happens.
It's very disappointing. Having said that, I give itanyway because I love what I've read so far! The Ranger books Ranger's Apprentice books and The Royal Ranger books are my favorite of Mr.
Flanagan's series. Although the Brotherband series is also fantastic, This book sees the return of Maddie, Will, Horace, and Halt! I won't give anything away I'll just say this book was great, as usual, and I can't wait for part.
I hope we don't have to wait too long! Great story, as always, but it ends in a CLIFFHANGER, for which Ive deducted a star, I despise authors who end their books in cliffhangers, Its a cheap trick to get the reader to buy the next book, and frankly, Mr, Flanagan, youre better than that, Its unnecessary for you to cheat your readers with a cliffhanger, Your stories are wonderful, and were going to buy your next book regardless, So why would you pull a stunt like that If the story is too big to fit in one book, at least close the narrative on a reasonable ending, leaving threads to be continued.
Or just write a bigger book, I think the success of the Harry Potter books proves that kids will read longer stories, You disappoint me, and my enjoyment of the story has been tarnished, Sad. I love all the books that John Flanagan has written Ranger Apprentice, Royal Ranger and Brotherband Chronicles, I have one question: how long do I have to wait until I see how the last book ends It was to be continued, can't wait for the ending,
John Flanagan grew up in Sydney, Australia hoping to be a writer, It wasnt until he wrote a highly uncomplimentary poem about a senior executive at the agency he worked, however, that his talent was revealed, It turned out one of the company directors agreed with Johns assessment of the executive, and happily agreed to train John in copywriting, After writing advertising copy for the next two decades, John teamed with an old friend to develop a television sitcom, Hey Dad!, which went on to air for eight years.
John began writing Rangers Apprentice for his son, Michael, ten years ago, and is still hard at work on the series, He currently lives in the suburb of Manly, Australia, with his wife, In addition to their son, they have two grown daughters and four grandsons,
