Get Your Hands On Live Like A Jesus Freak: Spend Today As If It Were Your Last Illustrated By D.C. Talk Accessible Via Brochure
great little book full of short stories, thought provoking writing prompts, and other little tidbits that can help you look at your life a different way, Absolutely inspiring! Great encouragement for living in and living out God's love, And the stories about other Jesus Freaks whether a retelling of a Bible hero or postBiblical disciples are always my favorite! Awesome book for middleschoolers to adults, Each chapter has stories about Jesus Freaks from the Bible, from modern history, and practical application ideas, Great stories but to litle about, how to apply these things to my life, What an inspirational book that gives examples of Christians that have boldly stood for Christ in modern times and how that looks today! I totally recommend this to anyone.
This is an easyread book and it is very interesting, A good book for teenage and young christians, Reads very much like a pep rally, . . “Are you excited about being a Christian You want to live a life on fire for your beliefs Impossible No way here is how others did it in the past while facing death and other insurmountable odds, heres how you can today!” This book had a lot of good stories about the hardship and triumphing over hardships of other christians, how God can use even the most difficult and destitute of situations and turn it around for his glory and good.
But on the same token the further I read I realized that the discussion part after the story on how to live you life as a christian was really geared towards either like high school/or college students.
Not really someone who has been married for almostyears w/two kids! But I liked the stories, Very good Devotional ! Me confrontó cada día con todo lo que me falta hacer y con todo el egoísmo que cargo, Para releerlo varias veces. Una verdadera guía. Lo voy a leer varias veces más adelante : Meh, It had some good stuff, good stories, good points but the delivery was poor, I commend DC Talk for wanting to get a good, hard message out there, but writing doesn't seem to be their forte, Maybe it's because I'm a little older than the intended audience, or more mature in my faith, I don't know, But this wasn't my cup of tea, Two similar books that I found MUCH more engaging and convicting are Courageous Teens by Michael Catt I think that's how it's spelled and When Worlds Collide by the Blackaby brothers.
Real stories of people that live for Jesus, How far are you willing to go in giving your life to Jesus
I thought that this book was pretty good, I read it at a time in my life where I was needing inspiration, and it gave me that, It also led me into going out and buying the other D, C. Talk books in the "Jesus Freak" series sitelinkJesus Freaks: DC Talk and The Voice of the Martyrs Stories of Those Who Stood for Jesus, the Ultimate Jesus Freaks sitelinkJesus Freaks: Stories of Revolutionaries Who Changed Their World: Fearing God, Not Man sitelinkPromises for a Jesus Freak and I found those to be really enjoyable as well.
This is probably best suited to a teen/young adult audience, though an older person would definitely enjoy it, I must admit that I was misinformed whilst debating whether to purchase this book, My good friend, who is also a Christian, kept telling me how good it was, yet he couldn't really explain to me exactly WHY it was good, That made me a little reluctant, but I purchased it anyway, for the fact that I was in the mood for another Christian book, It wasn't until I had gotten home that I discovered that this book was written more as a somewhat daybyday devotional to keep you pondering the tales of other Christians who stood for Christ in a misfortune of time and place all across the last twohundredorsoyears.
I thought it was what the book implies: a book simply speaking of Christians who stood for Christ and were practically always killed for it, Nope. Those stories may last up to four pages long, but most of each chapter is a constant strutting over the same message of the tale involved in each chapter, mixed with a Bible story, and then complimented with questions you're supposed to ask yourself.
As soon as I finished the first chapter, I had to sigh and just keep going, already realizing what I had gotten myself into with this one, Seventeen bucks had just been flushed for exactly the type of Christian book I was doing my best to avoid that day,
The Bible tells us not to point other Christians out and bash them, but I must admit that I think this book was pitched to DC Talk, notes of Christians who had died for standing for Our Lord included, and asked to write a simple semidevotional.
My point is: this book seems like a moneygrabber for DC Talk,
I do not mean to stay so negative in my review, so I'll start mentioning the good for a minute,
An absolute plus for this book are the stories of average human beings standing for the Superior, Jesus Christ, in the worst settings a person could be in.
Many of these tales end with a sadness, yet a bright happiness, because we all know these men and women are going to meet glory, However, I still wish these stories weren't so flatly written and short, As I stated before, most of these tales are barely four pages! I believe there was only one that was six pages in total, That's quite a shame, especially with their being more than one book now, See what I mean when I mentioned the book being a moneygrubbing sellout It has a sequel!
Anyways, I digress,
The writing style is, for the most part, shortandsweet, Nothing complicated, nothing too simplistic, A fair word would be: okay,
This is a series I definitely will not return to, I'm sorry, but I just cannot deal with a Sunday school lesson every time I want to read about something that has the potential to be truly inspiring.
My rating is a mild two to go with the mild writing style of this book,
If you DO check it out, I hope you might find enjoyment within it,
God bless! Probably good for a teenager not for an adult, Living Like a Jesus Freak is a practical guide to 'Jesus Freaks' to share the love, share the joy, and share the wonderful message of God with our lost brothers and sisiters.
It makes the awesome story summarized in John:, "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him will not die but have eternal life", seem so much awesomer!
I totally recommend this to everyone, whether you are a Jesus Freak or not.
It will change the way you think and live! Words that every believer must hear and know! Especially at a time of real battle like the present, This is a great condensed version of the larger version, There were a lot of great stories and illustrations that I've used with my youth group, I found a copy of the original edition and I'm going to try reading it, I read this aloud to my middle school age daughters, Each chapter had a topic of a specific way to be like a Jesus Freak, I didn't love the constant use of the term Jesus Freak, but I understood the reason behind this, Each chapter ended with some questions for reflection and then I story of a modern real life Jesus Freak and a biblical story of a Jesus Freak, They were excellent stories and my daughters were floored by the fact that people are still being persecuted and martyred for their faith, It was really good exposure for us and motivated me to pull out our Jesus Freaks/Voice of the Martyrs book so that we can occasionally read stories of martyrs at the dinner table.
Very encouraging stories lay in this book and I always like to read them when I am having a hard day or a rough time, Many christians get persucuted for their faith, There is a website too, Another great work from dc Talk! This book has many great ways to live out your faith all young Christians should read it! This book offered powerful reasons to become a Jesus Freak and powerful stories of Jesus Freaks who did for their faith in Christ.
I'm proud to say that I'm a Jesus Freak!! Stories of those who have struggled due to their faith, Meant to encourage and give you tools to build your faith, Some stories are difficult, but real, I'm not really sure where to start with this book, It had some solid retelling of Bible stories while including recent warriorforChrist stories, These were both nice aspects, Although, a lot of the modernday stories ended with the Christian being murdered which was more degrading than motivating for me, A great deal of the Bible passages used in this book were from The Message translation which was neat because I had never really read from that translation before.
There were some useful tips put into lists about: ways to get the word out about Jesus, a list of additional books biographies and "spiritual classics" to consider reading, and ways to worship outside of church.
These three sections I dogeared in my copy, I found them to be the most beneficial parts and they and they alone made it worth checking out, The rest of the book I didn't find to be particularly helpful or motivating and I found it to be a bit of a burden to read hence the two.
Focusing on life application, this book features practical ideas for putting faith to work, challenging questions for deepening your life, and readings that will help you sustain your passion.
This is a book in the Jesus Freaks series, but they don't have to be read in any sort of order, This one is full of a few of the Jesus Freak stories from the first book, as well as some scripture and practical advice on how to live like a Jesus Freak.
I didn't really learn anything new, but it was a nice refresher, These stories, these true stories just broke my heart, I believe that what we are going through for Christ is a walk in the park in comparison to the strong godly people in this book, This book was kinda complicated but it is true live today as if it were your last ! oh and i didn't read it all : I loved this book! It was very encouraging, and challenged me in so many ways! : This book hasways to live your life as a "Jesus Freak".
From praying to witnessing it is a great
book full of wonderful testimonies of Christian martyrs living life as Jesus freaks, It gives me something to live up to and causes me to be thankful to my Father because I am able to call myself a Christian without fear of persecution.
