YA, contemporary romance with a hockeyplaying heroine
I purchased the Kindle edition of this book, and I discovered it through a spoton recommendation by Amazon based on previous reviews and purchases I've done, most likely YA books by authors such as Janette Rallison.
Eighteenyearold highschool senior Natalie is forced to leave behind lifelong friends from Arizona when her father receives an offer of a job as history professor at his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Even worse, it is early November, and the school year and winter are already underway,
Natalie's dad played hockey during his college years, and one of his best friends and hockey teammates helped Natalie's father find a home in Madison three houses down from his.
Their first night in town, the friend and his college sophomore son, Shane, show up to help Natalie's family settle in,
Until that moment, all Natalie could think about was the warm weather and good friends she left behind in Arizona, but Shane is a gorgeous, fit, and very friendly representative of Wisconsin, who suddenly makes her reconsider her low opinion of the cheese state.
When her dad offers Natalie a deal, learn hockey which she has never played before and make the high school hockey team, and she can leave in June to return to Arizona, Natalie is torn in two directions.
She is initially quite eager at this chance to go back home as soon as possible, But her father has asked Shane to coach Natalie, and the more time she spends with him, the less she cares about moving away.
It is such fun to read a YA contemporary romance in the midst of so much dark and dreary dystopian fiction in the YA genre these days.
This story is somewhere between light drama and romantic comedy,
Natalie has a strong, forceful personality, and she's a talented athlete, She's more than a match for Shane, who is an extremely skilled athlete himself, an excellent coach, and an allround sympathetic romantic interest, Natalie and Shane are neither one big on expressing their feelings, and are a very good match as to intelligence and interests, It was terrific fun getting a window into hockey, snow skiing, and life in a Wisconsin college town in winter time as Natalie explores them at Shane's side.
The setting is a strong part of this story, and it adds a great deal, it is so well done,
The Kindle edition of this book is beautifully laid out and edited, making it a pleasure to read,
If you decide to read this terrific book because you enjoy YA romances with a heroine who is an excellent athlete, I also recommend: Cinderella in Cleats football by this author, Life, Love, and the Pursuit of Free Throws basketball by Janette Rallison, and Hooked golf by Liz Fichera.
I rate this book as follows:

I might be the only one but seriously I didn't like this.
It was rather boring and nothing really happened, Books need some kind of inspiration but in reality this book had no lesson learned, Boy meets girl, break up, they get back together, the end, I was disappointed. Although being from Wisconsin it was pretty cool to read about Madison! I wouldn't recommend this book unless you want a quick boy meets girl the end romance.
This was a good book but I love how she judges before she knows throughout the whole book and almost loses the guy because of her own stupidity!!! And refuses to like her new home because it's not her old one rolls eyes Sports, ComingofAge and Romance a lovely combination
I also liked how the book featured parts of the US that aren't so common and that I'm not familiar with.
Wisconsin is a colder part of the US with some German heritage Natalie Melter, the protagonist, has a surname of Germanic descent, They also eat bratwurst and all that sledding etc is all very Germanic,
The author managed to introduce details related to Ice Hockey without it becoming superfluous or tedious, It was the right amount of detail and action to keep us intrigued and informed,
The characters were interesting and the hero Shane, didn't follow the cliché BROKEN tatted tall, dark and handsome player that dominates most books.
I enjoyed the story and liked how Natalie who is rather selfabsorbed and a bit of a daydreamer transitions into a mature adult.
Overall an enjoyable story of Sports and romance,
More like/stars. I thought the book was ok but I found some parts to be a bit unrealistic, The dialog was a bit flat and there wasn't anything surprising or unpredictable, The hockey bits were not enough and I didn't get the Cinderella connection, I started to read this book and the further I got into it the worse the writing seemed to get, I just decided to give up on it because I wasn't going to waste my time on it, The characters were acting melodramatic for stupid little things and it just wasn't enjoyable to read, I got to chapterbut just couldn't go on, It was a light fluffy story and would have been more enjoyable if the writing had been better, I really enjoyed this sweet romance between Natalie and Shane, It's worth the read. I kept expecting more to happen because life was almost too easy for them, I could've used a bit more tension, But the author did a great job at writing what she wanted the story to be the
story of a girl and a boy.
I'm becoming antisleep each day!!!
I couldn't sleep until:am which was the time I finished this
Cinderella in skates was a cute Ya novel, about a girl that moved from Arizona to a colder snowy place "Natalie".
She meets on her first day at Wisconsin her dads friends son "Shane" which is a pro hockey player in college,
She hates it at er new place and wants to go back home to her friends, the warm and the water, Her dad makes a deal with her that if she makes it to the girls hockey team she will go back in June,
Shane becomes her couch for the month before tryouts and they start slowly to build feelings for eachother,
Soon Shane realizes that Natalie won't be there anymore and that he helped her leave sooner rather than later, so he decides to break everything off before her first game.
Natalie was a backup golie and on her first game the primary golie got injured and Natalie had to play she was hurt because of Shane and she couldn't stop thinking of him leading to the loss of their team.
Her second game she knew she had to play better, focusing on the game more blocking many shots and winning, She knew after her game from her other that Shane was there which made her think about what was going on,
At night she build a fire in her backyard and started to read a book but she couldn't stop thinking of Shane that's when he came and told her the reason behind why he left! He prepared a nice dinner at his parents house with the view of Arizona which brought tears to Nats eyes.
He really loved her and promised that he'll just have to deal with it if she decides to go back but was wishing that she would stay for him.
Shane got draftednd that year to LA Lions and he was so happy because that meant it was closer to Phoenix where Nat would be.
“He locks eyes with me and the next thing I know, he's running up the stairs toward me and then I'm meeting him in the aisle and he's picked me up in his arms and spins me around.
"You're amazing," I tell him, "I knew you'd do it, "
"I know," he replies, and I lean down to kiss him, the smiles still etched on both of our faces,
"You know what else" he says as he breaks the kiss and sets me down,
"What's that"
"LA is closer to Phoenix than Wisconsin, "
"I think you might be right about that, "
"Looks like your plan to run away failed, I think you're stuck with me now, "
"I guess I am, " I lean in to kiss him, "And you know what I wouldn't have it any other way, ” ltbgt
