Attain Photographing The Southwest: Volume 1--A Guide To The Natural Landmarks Of Southern Utah Showcased By Laurent Martres Delivered In Leaflet
best guide there is to the scenic wonders of the Southwest, I have used this book to plan many trips to the backcountry wonders of the area, I take it with me in case I need to replan during a trip, Perfect travel companion when photographing the National Parks in southern Utah, In many ways the advice in this book is for the best case scenario: if you have days and days, ax, and the physical conditioning for extensive hiking, you can get some amazing photos off the path of the plebeians.
Luckily, he's not condescending and talks about the easier places to get to as well, It's fairly comprehensive and I was glad to have become familiar with what was out there, even if I had only a fraction of the time these parks really deserve, and if the photographic advice is more filmbased.
I know of no better book for finding the best outdoor photography spots, I love its table that lists every location with ratings for its scenic value, road difficulty, and trail difficulty super handy, The photos are excellent, the text good, The only thing lacking is detailed maps to each location, but those are generally easy to get or make, and good text directions are provided, so that's hardly a criticism.
I've used this book extensively before and after writing my book sitelink Go Outside and Come Back Better.
