on A Wedding Invitation (Heart of Carolina #4)

is the story of a girl who attends a friends weddingonly to find its not her friend at all, and the events set in motion by her being there just might change her life forever.

Samantha Bravencourt has been happy enough working in her mothers store since returning from teaching refugees in the Philippines years before, She thinks attending the wedding will be safe enough after all, its a quick trip, and shell be able to stay with her aunt, What could go wrong

She meets a man, who is nice enough and cute enough and again, safe enough, but then she comes face to face with her pasta refugee family whose children she once taught, and another man shed once loved.
She finds that she still does, Will her heart be broken again, or this time, will it be for real And can she help realize her former students dearest wish, to locate her birth mother in time to attend her wedding

The seemingly random detailsthe disappearance of Samanthas mothers cat, the butterflies that her aunt raises and then releases at special occasionsand the way they interweave with the storys themes are half this storys charm.
The details are very sweet, as are the way the author weaves in bits of her own experiencefrom the teaching in the Philippines to the memorial service at the cemetery.
I found the story soothing and comforting, with deep issues handled gently, I usually prefer a more serious read, but this was a very nice change of pace, and Wislers style is smooth and engaging,

The storyline reminded me a bit of another Southern fiction title, A Hundred Years of Happiness by Nicole Seitz, and those who enjoy her, Beth Webb Hart, or Eva Marie Everson should enjoy Wislers work.

My thanks to the publisher for providing the review copy! I liked how there was no real conflict in the novel but I found the main character very awkward.
This book was kind of interesting, I liked the storyline, but I think the title didn't really go along too much with it, Yes Sam received an invitation to a wedding and yes she went to the wedding, but all of that occurred in the very beginning of the book and after what happened, which wasn't really very eventful, the wedding really had nothing to do with the story.
Sam worked in the Philippines as a teacher and had her heart broken by Carson, Unfortunately, Sam never quite got over it, She ends up seeing Carson later after being back in the United States and she finds it difficult to be around him, The rest of the story really is about these two, but it seems rather slow moving, Don't get me wrong, I did like these two characters and the background story between them, but it just didn't seem to flow smoothly, I did like the book, but I can't say that it was one of my favorites, This book was a real struggle for me, I really tried to like it, . . I thought the premise was a cute idea, but I had a few issues with it that made the book just ok,

I did NOT like the main character, She was just hohum, and was pretty one dimensional,

The writing style seemed really stilted until the end of the book,

I did like the support characters who really were what made the story, I wish the focus had been more on the support characters rather than Sam, I also liked learning about the Vietnamese refugees that would have also been fun to explore a little more from a historical history perspective,

Overall, the book was ok, The further along, the more I enjoyed it, . . if you can make it past the first half, it is a good book,

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher, Bethany House, for their bloggers review program, I was not required to write a positive review, The opinions I have expressed are my own, This is a delightful novel about being in the right place at the right time, The irony is that often we do not even realize that we are in the right place at the right time, Hindsight is often the only way we see this,

As with the rest of her novels, Ms, Wisler has brought to life a cast of characters that cause you to examine yourself and your own motives, One of my favorite quotes from the book comes from chapter fortytwo:

“Yes, I think, the stories of our lives are never simple.
There are complicated feelings and situations, and humans with complicated feelings in complicated situations, Like Thuy and Lien. There has to be more to their history than I will ever graspthose hidden components, things that have gotten pushed underneath all the living, Those components are what chronicle our lives, providing the vibrancy, sorrow, and frustration that can sound illogical to an outsider but make sense to the people involved.

I highly recommend that you grab this book and settle in for a thought provoking journey, It is one of those pieces of work that will linger with you for days, Enjoy! I was so excited when I got this book in the mail after I had won it from Library Things Early ers Giveaway, But when I started turning the pages and reading the words in this book I pretty much got tired of it really fast,

The main character is so one dimensional and throughout the whole story you really never get to see her grow, I caught myself wishing this story was more about the other characters in this story and not about Samantha, If it weren't for those characters, I probably would have marked this book as a DNF and gave up, I just couldn't get into the love story, it just seemed to fake to me, there was so many things that were so unbelievable to me.

I will say I loved the character Dovie, I think she is what got me to finish this book, Also I will say I think this book was really well written, I liked the history in the book, I'm a big history buff though so if you don't like History you might not like it,

If you want a light read, this is defiantly that, I just really got annoyed with Samantha, so much that I have to give this book a lower rating then I would have if it wasn't mainly about her.

A Wedding invitation wasn't he best book I've read, but it was okay for a light read,

I give this book a/! Loved this book! It was just a few days ago that I let out a delighted squeal when this book arrived in my mailbox.
Now today I let out a contented sigh as I finished it, followed by a touch of sadness that it was over, Now I probably have to wait another whole year before I read another Alice Wisler novel, That truly makes me sad,

I have made no secret of the fact that Alice is hands down, my absolute favorite author, She has been since I read her debut novel, Rain Song, That book has been my alltime favorite book for a long time, but Im thinking now it has some serious competition, I cant decide if I like A Wedding Invitation better, If not better, its a definite tie, I guess I dont need to decide, I just need to love

the fact that I loved this book, I have loved all of Alices books, She has a writing style that is so tender, so sentimental, without an ounce of sappiness, I have yet to find another author who evokes the kinds of feelings in me that Alices books evoke, And, I read A LOT of books, as you may know,

So, what was it exactly that delighted me to my core Hmmm, where to begin, Well, Samantha was one of the loveliest and most endearing characters I have ever had the pleasure of spending time with, I could just feel her loneliness and her sadness about the love she lost, but deep inside she always had a hopeful spirit and a desire to love.

And of course, an Alice Wisler novel wouldnt be an Alice Wisler novel without a cast of supporting characters like Aunt Dovie and Beanie.
Anyone who has lived in the South for any length of time knows people like this and we are better off because of them,

This book had a deeply personal feel to it as well, There is a lot of Alice on these pages, not just her words, but her heart as well, Her son Daniel was there, soaring high in the sky, Alices personal experiences, her losses and her triumphs gave this book the heart that I have come to look forward to in her books,

I was very comforted by the mother/daughter relationship between Samantha and her mother, It made me think a lot about my mother, which is always welcome, In fact, I would be willing to bet that if my mother was still alive, she and I would likely own a dress shop very much like Have A Fit.
And it would be fun, There were other things that I felt personally drawn to as well, For instance, the tribute to the Vietnam veteran, That made me cry, because my dad served in Vietnam and he is my hero, It is those little things that made this book so very special to me, Those things have made this an unforgettable book,

That is what readers can expect from this book to have a deeply personal experience, no matter what life has handed you, That is the brilliance of Alices writing, There is pain, sadness, grace, forgiveness, hope and tons of love in A Wedding Invitation, The sentimental feeling is so strong in this book, It was hard to get to the end of this book, I did not want it to end,

Read this book, absorb it, savor it, and fall in love all over again, Fall in love with second chances and with Alices lovely words, Youll see what I mean, I guess we probably all have someone from our past that could return at any moment and sweep us off our feet, or do we Sometimes I think people are in the past for a reason.

The book is a really light read, The flashbacks seem too randomly thrown in, but they are the most interesting parts, I thought it was interesting to see Sam's different experience with another culture, and the dynamic between her and Carson, Though I wasn't sure why she was attracted to him since he was a jerk to her, Then again I guess all of us have stumbled upon that mistake,
The part that just bugged me to no end was how dumb Sam is, She is seriously the offensive, stereotypical female that people talk about, She mixes up events all the time such as going to the wrong wedding, or wearing her work shoes when it isn't a work day.
You can only do that so many times before it is annoying, Plus she did not know what a Beluga whale is! Seriously I live in the middle of the country in rural Georgia, of the U.
S, and I know what a Beluga whale is, I've known since childhood, but she is an adult woman who has traveled to foreign countries and she doesn't know what a Beluga whale is That is messed up.

Anyways, if you can overlook the annoyance of the lead character then you'll enjoy this light, easy read, It took me a few days to get through it, which is longer than usual, It wasn't standout, but readable, You can check out A Wedding Invitation at Amazon,
