A great read. A different level of spirituality, Provocative in its expansion beyond currently accepted church texts, The Books expose a lushly rich and mystical version of both Heaven and Hell with affirming and brutal consequences, for both Man and Angels, including insightful details into the classes of angels and the origins of Noah.
The Books of Enoch are not widely practiced or even studied, outside of a small area in Africa, which is a true shame since they bring into the forefront and focus on the smaller ideas and characters found in the Christian Bible.
A must read for anyone interested in religious texts, Wow! Where has this gem been all my life Enoch ! Interesting, Enochtiresome, redundant. EnochGrating on my nerves, If this depicts how God really is, then I think He has issues, Perhaps a LoveHate complex towards humans, Any entity that requires that amount of excess worship from its creations must be starved for something beyond imagining, So. I suspect this is some mans interpretation of a God in his view a God should be if he were a god, I'll stick with a Loving Father in a Heaven that has formed a Plan whereby His Spirit off springs god embryos can be born into a world where their spirit can be joined to a body and progress to a point, come to a knowledge of J.
C. , adhere to the teachings of J, C. and all will be fine in the end, Overall, the book was an easy read and had interesting pieces of commentary on the the ancient Book of Enoch, I found the section on the Enochian calendar particularly fascinating and a topic I will be pursuing in the future, With that said, the book seems to be lacking in needed citations for some of the author's claims that are presented, So while the book may be interesting, I have to take some of the author's statements with a grain of salt since there is no citation to back up certain claims.
It makes it quite frustrating when trying to validate information for further study, I liked bookthe best and bookthe least,
Book one is believed to be the oldest dated asnd century B, C.
Quotes from book one:
:" And now, my son Methuselah, all thees things I am recounting to you and writing down for you! And I have revealed to you everything, and given you books concerning all these so, my son Methuselah, preserve he books from your father's hand, and see that you deliver them to the generations of the world.
I have given wisdom to you and to your children, and those children to come, that they may give it to their children for generations, This wisdom namely that passes their understanding, " Record keeping important.
Amazing understand of the cycle of the sun and moon etc measurement of time,
Vision of the forth coming flood and a parable of the cycles of the nations rule representing a series of eras,
:" Do not be godless in your hearts, and do not lie and do not change the words of righteousness, nor say that the words of the Holy Great One are lies, nor praise or rely on your idols for all your lying and all your godlessness leads not to come not from righteousness but leads to from great sin.
And now I know this mystery, that sinners will alter and pervert the words of righteousness in many ways, and will speak wicked words, and lie, and practice great deceits, and write books concerning their words.
But when they write down all my words truthfully in their languages, and do not change or omit any of my words but write them all down truthfully all that I first testified concerning them.
Then, I know another mystery, that books will be given to the righteous and the wise to produce joy and righteousness and much wisdom,
And to them the books shall b e given, and they shall believe them and rejoice over them, and then all the righteous who have learned from them all the paths of righteousness shall be paid back.
"
Changing of sacred writings by men foretold,
BookSlavonic Enoch written latter half ofcentury A, D. many versions of this
book, longer version has editorial expansions and additions
Interesting quotes:
:"And I put sleep into him and he fell asleep, And I took from him a rib, and created him a wife, so that death should come to him by his wife, and I took his last word and called her name mother, that is to say, Eve.
" A foretelling of Eve partaking of the fruit first
Nature of satan and it is our sins that curse us not Adam and Even's fall,
:"The devil is the evil spirit of the lower places, he made himself a fugitive from the heavens as the devil and his name was Satan, Thus he became different from the angels, but his nature did not change hs intelligence as it applied to his understanding of righteous and sinful things,
And he understood his condemnation and the sin that he had committed before, Therefore he devised a thought against Adam, in which he entered and seduced Eve, but did not touch Adam,
But I cursed ignorance, However, what I had blessed before I did not curse, I did not curse man, nor the earth, nor other creatures, But I cursed man's evil results, and his works, "
The importance of written records
:"Give them the books of the handwriting, and they will read them and will know that I am the creator of all things, and will understand how there is no other God but me.
And let them distribute the books of your handwriting from children to children, generation to generation, nation to nation, "
Chapteris also a post Noah reference to the importance of his written records and the blessing they will be to future generations
Further admonishment about importance of written sacred records.
:"So I teach you, my children, and tell you to distribute the books to your children, into all your generations, and among the nations who shall have the sense to fear God.
Let them receive them and may they come to love them more than any food or earthly sweets, and read them and apply themselves to them,
And those who do not understand the Lord, who do not fear God, who do not accept, but reject, who do not receive the books, a terrible judgement awaits these.
"
ChapterEnoch teaches his children before he is taken into Heaven, He recounts time from the creation of things spiritual and physical to the millenium and gives council on how to live with love towards one another,
rd Book of Enoch very mystical Hebrew Likely written, A. D. Has a lot of numerology,
I wonder if this is what inspired the character Metatron in the "Golden Compass" book series,
Interesting concept used:", . . And how long will you have no pity upon your children who are made slaves among the nations of the world Your right hand is behind you, Why do you not stretch out the heavens and the earth and the heavens of the highest heavens When will you have compassion"
Right hand is symbol of power and authority held behind back means not using the authority available to you.
God is inactive since it would mean He would have to judge His apostate people, He awaits his people to return to him in a righteous state, reason why some bad things happen
Chapterteaches of two Messiahs separate, One Messiah is seen as a peacemaker and teacher, who brings mercy, The second son of David is seen s a warrior, destroyer, bringer of justice, One comes in peace and the other is determined to do war to avenge God and Israel, First Messiah son of Joseph will be killed for his attempt to make peace, this versus Christian view that it will be the same Messiah that will return from heaven as the warrior of God, Messiah of the house of David will come at this time and right hand be extended no longer held behind back,
C:Unborn, nursing babies and those who die while studying the Torah are guiltless before God, It is interesting that scholars should be included in this list of innocents,
D:Moses learned all in the storehouses of wisdom more than just getting the ten commandments when he was on the mount fordays,
D:gives a passage of authority from Moses down thru Joshua and following prophets Rabbi Men of faith,
Excellent book for anyone interested in lore about angels, demons, etc and bonus points if you've read the Bible you'll notice some eerie similarities between some of the language and Jesus' beatitudes the "blessed are.
. . " statements in the New Testament, One thing to take note of: the lore about the Watchers is only a small part of the Books of Enoch, and is not laid out in a narrative format if that's what you were looking for in relation to the Watchers.
Otherwise, a great source of angel lore and essentially reading for 'angel enthusiasts' or whatever people interested in angels want to call themselves, whatever works 'Angelologists', maybe This was a great read.
The Books of Enoch is actually three separate books which were discovered in different areas and they each tell the same story, At the end of the book, Joseph Lumpkin pieces together a complete story using the Books of Enoch, the Holy Bible, the Book of Jasher, The War Scrolls, The book of Giants and other books to give the reader a complete account of what may have happened so long ago.
I found the book and commentaries useful in my own search for knowledge, and The Books of Enoch filled in a lot of blanks which the accepted Holy Bible left blank.
This is a mustread for anyone looking to expand their understanding of the beginning of human history or anyone who is fanatical about any and all types of mythology.
The book will adequately satisfy both audiences, So I read this because I am fascinated with angel lore, It was a fascinating read and everything was well explained, How do I review this I mean, it's not your typical book, is it It's an ancient religion, But what I would say is that it was fascinating and a little spooky, I probably highlighted half the text, It's also a really good translation in that there is a lot of annotation to explain things that might throw you, It provides context where necessary for understanding, I think I will let The Books of Enoch speak for themselves, for example, rivers of fire Only in hell right Oh how wrong you are
ChapterBook
And I saw two rivers of fire, and the light of that fire shone like hyacinth, and I fell on my face before the Lord of spirits.
My spirit saw circles of fire binding around the house of fire, and on it's four sides were rivers full of living fire, and they encircled that house.
Angels Kinda ruined everything
ChapterBook
And they said to me These are the Grigori, who with their prince Satan rejected the Lord of Light.
After them are those who are held in great darkness in the second heaven, and three of them went down on to earth from the Lord's throne, to the place Ermon, and broke through their vows on the shoulder of the hill Ermon and saw the daughters of men how good they are, and took to themselves wives, and fouled the earth with their deeds, who broke the law and mixing with the women, giants are born and amazingly large men with great hatred.
Very old testamenty and soaking with incredible imagery, A fascinating insight to what may have been the start of human Iife on earth,
From the creation of heaven and earth, to the coming end of the world, Written words from an ancient source, As translated from works about Enoch, Who was from the seventh generation decending from Adam and Eve, Also the grandfather of Noah, A world of fallen Angels, giants, and monsters,Enoch
Enoch
Enoch/
Enoch was the best, It is very informative. It answered a lot of the questions I had after reading the Bible, The Bible just has a few verses about this mysterious Enoch who pleases God SO MUCH that God just took him to Heaven without him dying, According to the Bible Enoch just vanished one day, He was there and then God just took him, That will leave a lot of questions: Why was he just taken How did he please God so much What do you mean he just vanished! Those and more questions were answered inEnoch.
Enoch pretty much is a shorter narrative of things discussed inEnoch, It has less detail. Its like reading a Summary of events, I still enjoyed it very much,
Enoch was very strange lol, Is Enoch a man or an angel You cant be both by the way, Is he Enoch or does he have another name Its very peculiar but I still enjoyed it, It gave me more questions lol, I ended up mostly skimming this book, because even trying to read it with an open mind, I was totally nauseated with the "everyone kissing the Lord's ass" and how he would destroy the evil ones, over and over and over.
I'm wondering if Revelations came from this
This actually has nothing negative against the author, it was strictly the words and basically the thoughts of those who willingly choose to believe in this type of deity.
Riveting!! I am very much inclined to believe the contents of this Book, They explain a lot of under explained theological principals that churches are fearful to speak of, It speaks of the Daughters of Men and the Sons of God and their union, Their detail on this subject provides a rich account that enlightens and awakens the senses, .
