Lynn Hagen always manages to come up with something new, Everytime I read her books, some of which I loved, some I hated and some I was soso with, there is always a constant element: her paranormal books may sound like the regular paranormals but then she twists them up like one would a rope and then release it to her readers who just gobble them up.
Take Falcon, Book One of the Dark Riders Series, This is something new. Yes, the usual elements are there like the alpha male, the machismo that seems to overflow, the twinkydink mate, the supportive BFFs, and the antagonists who cannot seem to get over their own images.
Then again, there are the Darlings, Who in heck would have ever thought up naming a pseudovampire species as Darlings Well, apparently only Ms, Hagen can and she did, And she made them nasty too, despite their loveable, cuteyaspie name,
When I read this, of course I was prepared for the usual, Then I noticed a difference in this book, no matter how formulaic it read to me, Here, Ms. Hagen decided that the POVs from just her main characters were not enough, We get the point of views from all the characters, from the major to the minors and this was a refreshing change.
Another thing I noticed was that there were enough lose ends to sink a book and yet, I got intrigued and was satisfied with the lose ends knowing that this is just the first book and more revelations as well as resolutions are sure to come with the succeeding installments.
Alright, I do agree with one and all that this is just like the rest out there and this is just the new formula to get us readers gripping for more.
Heck, I don't care if this is so as my usual reaction of loving character and plot developments are thrown out the window and my curiosity is getting the better of me.
A M/M shifter book I didn't hate, . . Added an extra star for that, it was good, but nothing new Omg, so much was going on in this book, This was a great start to a new series, We already know who the nextcouples will be, at least, I totally loved this! Great job Lynn! Ugh, Ugh. Why do I keep reading this stuff
Wasn't the worst shifter romance I've ever readit was just boring.
The only standout part of this book was that author used the word "tenebrous" to describe our alpha hero at leasttimes and I started skimming at about theso she could've used it more.
Yes, yes, he's very dark and broody, He's a shifter Heathcliff. WE GET IT.
On the other hand that cover model is seriously hothowever, is that a Member's Only jacket I see Hmm.
What I liked The tattoo artist lusting after the big, bad leader of a bunch of bikers, sue me, it's fantasy! The Darlings were interesting as the politics with other packs,
What I didn't like Everything happens so fast, And characters are just supposed to get the fck over it, ie main characters gets 'converted', but since it wasn't as bad as the other main character's experience, he just needs to suck it up Alot of happening in the background, laying the groundwork for future books.
Last Impressions So, so start of a new series, I might not have liked all the groundwork being laid about everywhere, but I do want to read about the detective and Falcon's twin getting together so I guess I shouldn't of complained then, huh
Honestly, Lynn Hagen's books are like crack to me.
Usually quick, simple, feel good reads, I can't help buy buy them, though I really wish Siren would get a decent cover artist That was one of the best Hagen books I've read yet.
There was a lot more story in this, since sex doesn't happen tillthough there's oral atit's filled with actual plot and getting to know the characters.
First Thoughts: Give me more!
Now, when they figure out HOW Garrett converted should be interesting along with why his eyes didn't change.
. something to do with getting blood in the eyes Darlings twisted take on 'vampires' are background nuisance right now.
. whether they have a more substantial roll remains to be seen I hope not, . cuz really where can you go with it And then there's 'the bite', . the one where Falcon 'claims' Garrett, . the word mate never pops up so I wonder if they just don't realize or if there isn't really a significance to biting your partner
Have set up on two more Dark Riders by the end.
I think Lonnie should be next in my opinion, I hated Lonnie. I am so over the sassy best friend trope, Lonnie and Rett were just together all the time and both were rude to Falcon without even knowing anything about him.
I just didn't understand Garrett and he was playing hot and cold and it was just weird.
If he was so far gone in lust at first sight it wouldn't have made sense to reject Falcon so much.
At the beginning he's all about thinking how it would be impossible for Falcon to want him and then when Falcon does pay him any attention he's not sure he wants him.
I am so over this trope of making the more dominant/masculine of the two work for it.
It becomes more like F/M that I want to avoid, I want both MC to want it, both to work for it, and both to offer something to the relationship.
This idea in which one chases and the other is chased does not appeal to me at all, I hate this book.
I didn't understand why Falcon was into Garret at all other than his scent, The dude was just a doormat, He did everything his bff said and was just bratty both of them, I couldn't have hated this book more, This book has a unique feel to it for me, which is slightly different from other books series that I've read by this author, which I'm sure that's what writers strive for.
: I did like this, however, I was becoming frustrated with how there was a lack of real communication between Falcon wolf shifter, and Garrett until aboutpercent into the book.
I understand that many readers enjoy a slow burn with their romances, but if it's too slow, then the story tends to drag, at least for me after all, it is a fantasy.
I mean, even in reality people talk to each other quicker than these main characters did, The dark riders are a tough group, which is intriguing, and I will absolutely read the next book in this series, since I really loved Lonnie.
He was such a sassy little fella, and his story is next, Ultimately, this still was a fierce, and appealing read, Uber sexy alpha male clad in leather, Check
Hot, twinky love interest with artistic talent and bestfriend, Check
Posse of equally sexy shifters, Check.
Lust at first sight and then growing to love after adversity, Check.
Antagonist alpha with overinflated ego, Check
This formula might have worked for me if I had encountered this before my firstbooks but I felt like I've read this before.
Not that I don't like this type, but I was looking for an original delivery compared to other shifter stories.

This is the first in a new series by Lynn Hagen thats not connected with any of her other series.
This book features wolf shifters, but with a twist, Vampires are called Darlings and not as charismatic as the vampires in her other books although they do tend to talk a lot of trash when taunting the Dark Riders.
The Dark Riders are a biker gang who happen to be wolf shifters, The leader, Falcon meets and falls for Garrett, a tattoo shop owner, I really like the secondary characters in this book, Garretts best friend Lonnie was something else, The interaction between Lonnie and Santos a member of Falcons gang/pack is HILARIOUS! I cant wait to see how the relationships of the other Dark Rider members will play out.
The action and storylines are coming along pretty good, I havent gotten a full feel for this book yet because its the start of a new series and like a new pair of shoes I have to break it in.
Im enjoying it so far and really looking forward to reading more, .
