Get Started On In Search Of My Father Written And Illustrated By Helena Popovic Issued In Paper Edition
enjoyed this book. Easy read, amusing, poignant, educating and so much more, A journey into her fathers background through his onset of Alzheimers and the death of her mother, Still reading it Following her mother's death, Dr Helena Popovic puts her
medical training and beliefs to the test when she becomes the carer for her elderly father who has encroaching dementia.
This moving story is part personal diary, part scientific treatise and part practical guide, woven together with humorous anecdotes, Above all, it's an inspiring account of a daughter in search of her father: the man beyond the grief, despair, depression and dementia.
I related to so much in his book, My Dad has recently died, My Mum is living with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease,
The energy and 'righteousness' Helena feels in 'helping' her dad, I too am often guilty of, I laughed, I cried, I often smiled, This book is all true life, I found it refreshing, helpful and energizing, The very short chapters were perfect after my long work days and extended family dramas, Always enjoyable I am looking forward to sharing this book with special friends and then reading it again! Extra special because I met Helena and she autographed my book! This book is really more of a medical text book on dementia but I did persevere with it as it had some good points! Very interesting to see how much "social connectivity" plays a part in keeping us mentally switched on.
So much more than doing Suduko which is just as well cos I'm crap at Suduko!! And as for doing crosswords etc to keep mentally active that's helpful but the real key is to keep learning something COMPLETELY new A new skill or study something new etc.
