Download Now Storm Born #1 (Dark Swan Comic, #1) Authored By Richelle Mead Published As Digital Paper
Let me first say, I have not read the Dark Swan series, but since
reading this issue, I'll definitely be checking it out now.
That's
how much I loved these issues,
In all three issues they have gorgeous artwork, I love pretty things
and I hate to say it, but usually that's the first thing I look for
in a graphic novel.
Sad, but true. I could tell by the cover that the
insides were going to be pretty let me insert other adjectives here:
stunning, beautiful, dazzling, lovely, etc, etc.
Eugenie looks sexy, without being overly sexual, It's nice to see a
character who looks badass in a tshirt and jeans and not spandex and
black leather, Don't get me wrong, love black leather and spandex,
but there's a such thing as too much of a good thing, yeah
I do think there were times when her facial expressions could have
been cleaned up a bit and others when just a little more detail was
needed.
Like I said, I've never read the novels, but I think the comic version
does an excellent job at storytelling, I never got a moment where I
felt lost or bored for that matter, It was also very easy to pick up
the next issue and jump straight back into Eugenie's world,
My only qualm is at the very beginning of the first issue, I wasn't
sure if I had skipped a few parts into the story or if the story
actually started there.
It was quite apparent after a few pages in
that that was how the comic started off,
For issuesI give it five, Can I times infinity it Yes
I'm very excited for issuenow!
This review is for all three issues that are out now of the Dark Swan Series.
Comic book adaptations of popular novels seems to be the rage these days, The Mercy Thompson series has one, and I know there are others out now, and even more coming out this year, I've never read one before today, but I was approached last week about reading this and thought I'd give it a try,
The main reason I did accept this request was because I have not read the series by Richelle Mead that this was based off of, so I wouldn't be making comparisons about what might have been left out, or changed around, like what happens with movie adaptations.
I came into this with a clean slate, And I'm glad I did, because the first issue of Storm Born makes me want to run out to my bookstore to see if they have the first book.
Eugenie seems like a woman with a strong moral compass who is also badass and can hand it out when it's needed, I'll definitely be eager to see more of her in comic form, I think my main problem, were the sketches, I didn't really like the art in the graphic novel, The story was ok, and at the begining it held my interest but after that, . .
I am wondering if I should read the actual books even though I wasn't thrilled with the story, or the world, or the MC for that matter.
Eugenie Markham never asked for any of this, Until now, she's been content with her job as a freelance shaman, battling and banished Otherworldly creatures, When a prophecy suddenly makes her the Otherworld's most popular bacherlorette, Eugenie finds herself fighting off unwanted supernatural suitors, as well as the evils that begin emerging from her past.
. . I am an avid fan or Richelle Mead and have religiously read everything that she has published, My love affair with this author started with the first Vampire Academy book but was firmly sealed after reading all the Dark Swan novels, Upon hearing that it was available in graphic novel form, I started pestering the comic book store in Johannesburg South Africato special order them for me.
I live in Durban so it meant travelling to another city halfway across the country just to get my hands on these beauties but it was certainly worth the effort.
Whilst I fell in love with Eugenie's strength and fierce determination in the novels, the graphic novels brought her to life and made the worlds from my imagination a vivid, almost palpable reality.
I would strongly suggest this book and series to anyone who enjoys a strong female protagonist and a great story, Rather enjoyed this comic. Had a hard time putting it down, Will definitely be keeping my eye out for the next one, started vary slow but picked up in the end so good this hystori its my favorite While I'm a big fan of the Vampire Academy and Georgina Kincaid I have yet to start Mead's Dark Swan series.
So, when I got the chance to review the graphic novel, I jumped at the chance,
The first issue propels you right into the thick of Eugenie Markham's life, as she cast a powerful
ghost from a ordinary shoe.
Issueis fast paced and the energy was great, I loved the start of this story, I wish I picked this one up long before now, Eugenie is everything I like in my heroines, mouthy and kick ass, The art pops off the page, Especially the look of Eugenie, I think she is captured better here, then in the mass market book covers, Whether you are a fan of graphic novels or the Dark Swan series, you won't want to miss this one, The art was mediocre but come on, It's Richelle Mead, You can't go wrong with Richelle Mead, Hugely entertaining and looks stunning on the iPad, Brought through Comixology.
