Achieve Surrogates Constructed By K.D. Grace Listed As Paper Copy
not like Dan or Bel as characters, KD Grace has a highly readable writing style, and the sex is definitely sizzling, so if that's mainly what you go for, this is a hot ticket from the get go.
Yet after a strong start I felt this one tailed off once the protagonist Dan ropes in Simon to be his surrogate with Francie, it's hard to quite understand his choices, and it seems to me the writer's own focus then shifts to the Simon/Francie pairing, leaving Dan feeling like a slightly irritating ex who just keeps hanging around when he's not wanted.
Then any potential drama with regard to Dan's bending of his marriage vows is almost instantly dissipated by his wife's own infidelity, when ends up tying up the loose ends largely as expected, but brings a heavy sense of soap opera verging on farce that ends up cheapening the erotic elements of the story, leaving a slight sense of unsatisfaction at the end.
I received this book in return for an honest review,
As always KD delivers a sext, hot, dirty tale full of twists and turns, I did spend time loving and hating characters and shouting and cheering I did get some looks
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Francie and Dan are desperately in love with one another, but they aren't having an affair not technically, During their private meetings in the lavish grounds of Dan's opulent estate, they don't touch each other, Instead, they engage in simultaneous masturbation, encouraging one another with dirty talk until each reaches an independent climax, In Dan's view, at least, he's still being faithful to his wife Isabel,
Dan assures Francie that he'll eventually divorce Bel, but he isn't ready yet to take that step, He believes that Bel is too emotionally fragile to handle the shock, Meanwhile, although Bel employs Francie as her kitchen gardener, they're also close friends, Torn apart by guilt and sexual frustration, Francie decides to leave her job for one that plays less havoc with her feelings,
To persuade her to stay, Dan enlists the help of his college chum Simon, a handsome landscape architect who has a lot in common with Francie.
According to the plan, Simon will become Dan's surrogate, making love to Francie while Dan watches and directs, Simon agrees, primarily because he's strongly attracted to the earthy, uninhibited young woman himself,
Unbeknownst to her husband, Bel is engaged in some extracurricular sexual shenanigans of her own, in the company of her masseuse Ellen, When Dan finds out, the kinky possibilities reignite his lust for Bel even though he tells himself he loves Francie, Secrets unravel, motives are misunderstood, and for a while it appears that nobody will end up satisfied, That illusion is dispelled, however, as each character ends up matched with partner he or she deserves,
I loved The Initiation of Ms Holly, the last book by K, D. Grace that I reviewed, so I opened Surrogates with eager anticipation, Unfortunately, I found myself rather disappointed by this book, The plot premise felt contrived, an insubstantial ruse to justify the sex scenes, The sex itself, though copious and well written, was pretty pedestrian compared to the wildly imaginative scenes in Ms Holly, There are M/F/M and M/F/F ménage interludes and a whole lot of wanking, as well as the obligatory corporal punishment scene, but somehow all of this bonking lacked conviction.
There were no surprises, no shocks or risks, no breathstealing excitement or delicious shame, This may be in part because so many of the sexual encounters were literally staged by Dan, in his attempts to have his cake and eat it too.
The voluptuous Francie is an appealing character, I keep finding myself wanting to write “wellrounded” or “fully fleshedout”, . . She's passionate, unaffected and genuine, with a powerful connection to nature a true goddess type, It's no wonder she inspires such desire in the men around her, She rings true the descriptions of her passion are among the best parts of the book and I would love to have met her in a deeper and more engaging story.
The sensitive but virile Simon is her perfect match, though it takes a surprisingly long time for her to realize this, Dan, on the other, struck me as so selfish, selfcentered and selfdeceiving that he's almost a caricature, Toward the end of the book Ms, Grace suggests that he may be punished for his dishonesty and sexual greed, but one gets the impression he'll enjoy that chastisement far more than he should.
He's so unsympathetic that I found it implausible that someone with Francie's virtues would ever be attracted to him,
The plot of Surrogates smacks a bit of a Shakespearean comedy, with its deceptions, misdirections and revelations, I found myself thinking of Titania and Bottom, Perhaps one should view Ms, Grace's characters from that perspective, as comic archetypes manipulated by the author for the pure fun of it, Certainly, with the possible exception of Francie, they didn't strike me as at all realistic, but maybe that was intentional,
Surrogates is not a bad book, if you're looking for stroke fiction, It races along smoothly from one orgasm to the next, raunchy and playful, amusing and pleasant as long as you can put aside the urge to kick Dan in the butt.
However, I know from experience that K, D. Grace is capable giving the reader more than a quick wank, that she can produce erotica with a great deal more depth, insight and passion than is evident here.
I'm sorry this book doesn't fulfill that promise,
Even though hes in love with his beautiful gardener, Francie Carter, Daniel Alexander III takes his marriage vows very seriously, Until he gets the balls to ask for a divorce, watching each other play is all he can offer her, Then Dan convinces Francie to allow his friend, Simon Paris, to be his surrogate to have sex with her while Dan watches and supervises, Its a winwin. Dan stays faithful to his wife, and with Simons help, he can keep Francie satisfied until he gets the nerve to ask for a divorce, And with their yawner of a love life, Dans wife, Isabel, is enjoying her own version of borderline fidelity with her massage therapist, Ellen, Bel cant see the harm, After all, it's not proper sex if it's with another woman, is it But Dans discovery of Ellen and Bel trysts strangely rekindles his passion for his wife.
As sex with Bel gets kinkier and better, and sex between Francie and Simon gets ever more sizzling, Dan thinks he has the best of both worlds.
But secrets dont stay secret, Substitutes arent the real thing, And in the end there are no surrogates for matters of the heart, Wonderful stuff. The scenes are filthy and in more ways than one, Yes it's erotica so of course includes graphic sexual content and if that isn't your thing then perhaps this isn't the book for you,
I didn't relate to the plot as much as other books and that is why I've chosen to give a rating of, It probably deserves more and is more due to a personal preference than a reflection of the authors writing,
The occupations of two of the characters was unusual and I loved that, Likewise the characters in this book were strong, certainly strong enough for me to develop a sense of dislike towards one or two and a deep sense of loyalty towards another couple of the characters.
I think the main issue I had with this book is down to the fact I felt the characters didn't communicate well, It's probably because it's something that I personally require in a relationship so don't "get" when others don't, Again this isn't the authors fault, the characters will be truer and more realistic for this, It also allowed for a little switch around towards the end of the book where my dislike for a couple of characters softened and I felt more like cheering them on.
Well worth a read by anyone but particularly those who enjoy steamy, sensual, hot, naughty scenes in an erotica book, Dan loves his wife, Bel, and does his husbandly duties whilst thinking of Francie, his delectable head gardener, He enjoys an unusual relationship with Francie he will not treat Bel how his father treated his mother and therefore he will not cheat on his wife.
Then Simon, an old Uni pal, arrives and he becomes Dan's surrogate doing everything with Francine that Dan cannot,
I shall never look upon a courgette or even a dibber in the same light ever again! Dan loves his wife, He also loves Francie, the kitchen gardener, He can't bring himself to actually physically cheat on his wife, so he finds loopholes in his marriage vows, One such loophole, if he doesn't actually touch Francie and she doesn't actually touch him, he isn't cheating, At least in his mind, Dan and Francie have mutual masturbation sessions, After a time though, it's not enough for Dan, so he approaches a friend, Dan's plan is to have Simon sleep with Francie while he watches, Simple right Not so much, Simon really likes Francie. While all this is going on, Dan's wife Bel is having an affair with Ellen, her massage therapist, Soon though, Dan finds out about Bel and Ellen, He decides to join them as well, Now he has the best of both worlds, It could come crashing down around him, but he'd worry about that another day,
This book was a soap opera inside a porn movie inside a soap opera, Other than the fantastically written sex scenes, this book doesn't have anything of value to offer, If you are looking for something to spark your night, or day, this will do it, It offers a wide variety of sexual situations, If you're looking for a good story, keep moving,
The issues I found were that it seemed to just wrap around and around and yet say nothing, It should at least have a solid story line before you add the sex scenes,
I gave this oneout ofbooks because it went nowhere fast, fter reading Body Temperature and Rising I have been hooked on KD Grace's writing, she has a way to entice you into reading the whole book in one sweet read and this was no exception.
I'm very honoured to have received this Surrogates to read from KD herself so was really excited to read this NEW book in the Mischief range.
DANIEL ALEXANDER III takes his marriage vows seriously, Until he gets the balls to ask his wife, BEL, for a divorce, watching each other masturbate is all he can offer his beautiful gardener, FRANCIE CARTER.
But when Dans friend, SIMON PARIS, agrees to be his surrogate, affairs of the heart get complicated,
This was an exciting and sexy read at the turn of every page, with a storyline that was so original it was brilliant, I loved the unusual scene set in the beautiful gardens, I simply could not put this book, . er iphone down I had to keep reading till Id reached the end page, Wow what a read, it left me breathless,
KD has explained the main characters Dan and Francie and Simon so well you feel completely connected to these characters, they come alive on these pages.
. . er screen!
I especially felt for Francie as we watch her go through a rollercoaster of emotions and see her reactions towards Dan and the surrogate Simon through this exceptionally well written novella.
Dan has this idea he wouldn't be cheating on his wife if he just watches Francie having sex with another man by his own direction, a surrogate.
Sounds a simple idea but it doesn't go to plan!
The sex scenes were a brilliant mix of masturbation and voyeurism to threesomes and some very hot girl on girl
action.
Plus a beautiful reconnection between husband and wife a very special part of this book too, experimentation is always good relighting old fires is still very possible!
Then finally with a great piece of domination and submission thrown in for good measure.
. . for an explicit smokin' ending, phewy.
KD has combined my love of gardening and made it into something very sexy, I will never look at vegetables in the same way ever again.
If you want a fun, fast read with great character flow and connection and hot sex on almost every page this is for you,
