This was quick and fun, S. A. Reid has a knack for writing these dastardly characters that I love to love, They are so rough around the edges that I shouldn't even like them, but I end up loving them.
I wish this had been longer and more developed, because I think I really could have fallen for these two boys and their messed up beginning.
But for a short, I thought they were a lot of fun, Ok . . Ummm This book defies reviewing

But, . , ummm . l still kinda liked it Ssshhhhhhhh, Definitely going on a guilty pleasures shelf, the writing was excellent!, but the situations semi plot were strange, . I'd say pwp, but there is a minimal plot, Hot little fantasy that starts out very good indeed, but gradually gets more uninteresting as the writers keep tacking on disjointed scenes to add to the page count.
Nowhere up to par with Reid's usual writing sitelinkProtection: so, so good, Have mercystars. Steamy short m/m romance about a cop who meets a young doctor in a most unusual way, giving a whole new meaning to "closeted".
Be aware that there's dubious consent in this one, For me, this was one of those 'there's astory in here somewhere' type of books, I loved the characters, both individually and as a couple and the writing, for the most part was witty and enjoyable, but the plot holes and visible plot devices took away from arating for me.


Stephen and Brendan meet in a broom closet when Brendan tries to prove to his ex that he's not boring in the sack.
He mistakes Stephen for his boyfriend because apparently, athey're built the same, b the closet was dark and cBrendan thinks that the fact that Stephen doesn't sound anything like his bf is part of the act.
Ok, so you need to suspend disbelief there slightly, but I was willing to roll with it.
The closet scene was actually hot, Yes, Stephen sucks off a perfect stranger but hey, he is a sexually frustrated,yr old virgin.


The problems come later:

Issue They meet again when Brendan's partner is wounded he's a police officer and Stephen is the doctor on duty.
It defies logic that even though Brendan is the one who saw Stephen's face he hid around the corner and peeked when Stephen exited the broom closet, he doesn't recognize Stephen when they meet again.
Not even when he's all up in Stephen's face yelling at him, Yet, Stephen immediately recognizes Brendan whose face he hadn't seen by his voice and his first name.
I just have to take this time out to say that, only in books, can the smell of coffee and cigarettes on someone's breath be described as a 'perfume'.
LOL

Issue Brendan saying

to Stephen, 'Suck it for Uncle Brendan' or something like that, made my skin crawl.
Like, seriously. Keep in mind, I read brocest and dadcest and dare I say love it, but the Uncle thing just felt misplaced.
shudders. Later, however, we see that Brendan had to say something that would include his name so that Stephen would remember it when he introduced himself.
Visible plot device.

Ok, so I got over those two things and I'm still loving my boys, but then we get to issue Stephen gives Brendan a drug to relax him and then straps him to the bed and has sex with him.
Ummmmm no. First, again, I read non con, dub con, convicts, con artists, you get the idea LOL, . . and this was actually consensual well as consensual as a 'drugged' Brendan could be, but this just reeked of all kinds of no.
Firstly, where is this exam room Am I mistaken in my belief that it was in a hospital emergency room type setting, not a private office That should mean it's just an enclosed, curtained space, no So, how is this possible This hospital doesn't have cameras No staff walk by No one is next door It was too unbelievable for me.
Not to mention the ethics issues,

AndStephen asks Brendan how his partner's doing.
Uh, wouldn't Stephen know He operated on him! Wouldn't he be on his patient list It's not like it was weeks later.
It appeared to be the same night, Why would Brendan know more than the doctor who saved his friend's life Again, maybe I misread.


And THEN we find out that Stephen hadn't actually given Brendan a drug, he'd just given him a placebo.
I have no words. I guess that's supposed to help the whole ethics issue,

So those were my issues, But, believe it or not, I still really liked the book, And yes, I agree with those who said that it was very misleading to have the story end atand then have previews for other books.
Given the ending, I thought the other half of the book would be a story including Alex.
Also, why exactly did Alex look scared That didn't sit right with me IssueLOL,

I don't know, It felt like this book tried to straddle the fence between a romance and a dub con/non con and missed the mark.
Some of the scenes felt too forced pornish, like the traffic stop,

Like I said, with some revamping, this could easily have been astar read, I think both authors are extremely talented and I did enjoy this story, but too many things detracted from it, overall.
