Collect Judy And The Martian Picturized By Penelope Lively Distributed As E-Text
and the Martian is a book about an Alien called Martian who has landed on the Earth by mistake and a little girl called Judy.
Martian crashlands his spaceship on the Earth due to losing his map and lands into a parking lot of a supermarket.
He feels scared and hides between two fridges, This is where Judy comes for shopping with her mum and sees him, She offers to take him with her to her house and look after him, They spend lot of days playing and having fun together but then Martian starts to feel homesick so Judy makes plan to send him back home.
This book can be very interesting to KSchildren because of the involvement of the spaceship, alien and the suspense element regarding what will happen next which children will quite enjoy.
This book can let their imagination fly,
It has lot of descriptive text describing the alien, his emotions and the different situations, Children can be asked to discuss in pairs about what might happen next and what might be Martians feeling at different occasions and this way extend their vocabulary and description ability.
There is quite a lot of use of direct speech and dialogue so can be used for teaching of the speech marks and different emotional expressions like tutted, nodded and sniffed etc.
So Teacher can use these to improve childrens reading expressions, Teacher can plan role play activity which will develop childrens use of expressions and speaking confidence, Some long words can challenge their decoding skills and also gives teacher chance to discuss meaning and thus extending their vocabulary knowledge.
This book can be better read to the whole class, I initially read this book to my yearchildren and made it interesting by asking them to act out the expressions.
On the whole, I
can recommend this book to be used to achieve the above mentioned learning objectives.
