Delve Into A Thin Film Of Lies Outlined By C.S. Lakin Released Through Bound Copy
a writer myself Author of the Historical Thriller cum Romance "The Pink Mutiny" I always follow C S Lakin's books on writing like "TheFatal Flaws of Fiction Writing" and "Writing the Heart of Your Story" etc.
And then I read her own fictions to see how she has translated her advices in her own book.
I loved this book,
Superb Captivating Voice as Author C, S. Lakin Does It AgainA Christian Crime Thriller Packed with Suspense! A Thin Film of Lies delivers an enthralling read.
While it took me awhile to get into it, once the story got going I couldnt read fast enough to find out what happened.
The main characters and the twists their lives took kept me guessing, and the ending took me completely by surprise.
This is a very enjoyable, entertaining book in the Christian mystery genre, A Thin Film of Lies is first and foremost a psychological thriller, The main plot revolves around the rapid deterioration of Mike and Alissa Jepsons marriage when Mike is accused of murder.
Lakin gives this familiar tale a particularly creative spin with the inclusion of the lens through which the perpetrator views the prey much as a hunter sights his kill.
This looking through the viewfinder was written so vividly I felt as if I could see the scene myself.
This was my favorite part of the story,
For me, a secondary plot featuring the detective assigned to the murder case and her family, was less engaging and a distraction from the main story line.
Still I had to keep reading,
C. S. Lakin is a skilled and gifted writer, A Thin Film of Lies is a fine example of her intricate and wellresearched stories, The range of Lakins knowledge is impressive, The imaginative plot and interesting characters kept me turning pages to the very end, Although I guessed the perpetrator shortly before the climactic reveal, the how and why were beyond my power to conceive.
Excellence is a hallmark of Lakins writing, as are carefully crafted sentences set off by a stunning vocabulary, My : Wow! I started reading this book a few hours ago and I simply could not stop reading! I was biting my lip with the sheer terror and suspense at times! I was frantically telling Alisa to run at certain key moments in the story.
I was both fascinated as I read and appalled!! To think that someone would go to such extremes to hurt another human being over a perceived injustice was hard to fathom.
I truly felt pain for the characters,
I would say that this story did draw on some of my own insecurities and fears, It brought to mind instances where I felt a need for God and all I could say was, "Help me, God," just as several of the main characters did.
I admire Fran for her determination to minister to others, even if her boss at the police station does not condone it.
This is a novel to make you truly rethink your own values and relationships, I love reading mystery and suspense novels and this was a superb piece of literature! I will definitely be looking at some of C.
S. Lakin's other novels. Susanne does not shy away from gritty characters or intense topics in this suspense, crime novel, Instead, she dives right into the minds and actions of all of the characters in the book, For this reason, some readers are not going to care for the book, It deals with difficult topics such as adultery, lust, murder, deceit, lies all while staying with the theme that faith in God can get you through even the most difficult of situations.
The book twists and turns to the point that you really don't know what is going to happen until right before the end.
Readers will have glimpses here and there that all may not be exactly as it seems, and clues about what may have happened are woven into the story line.
The story is well developed, but it is not pretty, The characters even the Christian characters such as detective Fran Anders do not have easy lives, Fran's faith in God is repeatedly tested, Mike and Alisa Jepson's marriage is seriously tested, Mike struggles with infidelity and unfaithful thoughts/feelings, Alisa wrestles with past church experiences that left her with a strong dislike of the church and religion, When Mike is accused of murder, things get even more sticky for the individuals involved, The twisted minds of the other characters in the story unfolds before the readers eyes as the story progresses.
It is not your typical cut and dried murder mystery, nor is it a typical "feelgood" Christian suspense novel.
No, this book is meant to make readers really think about the devious consequences of sin in ourselves and the world around us.
To be fair, I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy the book when I first started reading as the beginning felt a little disjointed to me, but I soon found there was a reason behind the way the book was written.
Once I understood what was taking place, I was able to really get into the style of the book.
Readers go back and forth between the photographer's thoughts and the story itself, The one issue that I ran into that made reading the book a bit difficult was the formatting was off on my Kindle edition.
Some pages contained several different fonts and styles which I'm sure was not the author's intent, I reduced my rating by one star due to the formatting issues,
Even with the formatting issues on my edition, I enjoyed the book, It is definitely not something that I would give to my daughter to read due to the adult subject matter in the book.
It's a "real world" type of book that addresses some serious relational topics, so readers will want to keep this in mind when deciding if they want to read this book.
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book to help facilitate the writing of a frank and honest review.
'A Thin Film of Lies' had me intrigued from the first page, C. S. Lakin captures the essence of each of her characters impeccably, The author uniquely allows the reader to learn who the villain is, and proceeds to open the door to the villains mind.
As the story unfolds, we learn how easily one can be framed for murder, especially one who has a scarred past.
We feel the pain and heartache of several characters, and we watch them tread through their challenges and come out better people.
Its a beautiful thing when an author can help us learn through their characters mistakes,
The main character seems to be riddled with bad luck, which may have been followed by a bad decision made in the past.
In my opinion, the most important lesson learned in this story is the power of forgiving not just forgiving others, but forgiving ourselves as well.
The book begins to steer each character in the right path once they have forgiveness in their lives,
The author touches on many issues in this story, She creatively uses religion as a way to cope with most of them, but does it in such a way that even a nonpracticing person could relate.
I very much enjoyed A Thin Film of Lies, and I look forward to reading much more from C.
S. Lakin.
Great book, Well written, suspenseful, surprise ending, Last weekend was a haze, You know why
I could not put down this fantastic book!
First, let me offer a surprising disclaimer: I am not a mystery fan.
A Christian Crime novel didn't really pique my interest, but as the Operations Manager of The CWA Crew I had a free copy to peruse.
Yeah, I said peruse. Let me be clear though, If you pick up this book you will not simply peruse, Your life will be in a paused state until you reach the last page, It's just that good.
My initial disinterest is exactly what made my pleasure in this book so profound, I literally could not stop reading, Susanne Lakin has the incredible gift of description, From the introduction I was hooked, simply by her language and the vivid images they evoked,
Holy cow! It was like noting I'd read before, Let me tease you with the beginning:
I wasnt there the night Libby Denham was killed but believe me, I can fill in the details.
Being a photographer, I was taught to have an eye for detail, So heres how I would have captured her death:
The first shot: Libby in her Pontiac Firebird, A beatup old car, periwinkle blue, Id shoot the angle from the front, straight through the windshield with amm lens, capturing her flashy eyes and the way her thick red hair tumbled down her shoulders.
Shed be wearing her oversized tortoiseshell glasses and, of course, the purple angora sweater, However, the look on her face would imply more than exasperation at trying to find a parking space for her clunker.
Heres the beauty of the expression: you couldnt tell if Libby was excited or fearful, A person would wonderwhat was the source of her abnormal agitation Why were her hands gripping the steering wheel so tenaciously
See what I mean It reads almost
like a film script.
Camera angles, intrigue, suspense. You get so much detail from the author that you actually believe you know what's going on, but you don't.
The reader becomes like the character, Alisa, evaluating the evidence and putting pieces together, Alisa is a woman who has just learned of her husband, Mike's, infidelity via the ominous envelope filling her mail box.
Oh, and if she had any doubts of its authenticity, there were pictures and love letters in her husband's handwriting.
Can you feel the tension It seems pretty cut and dry, However, it was far from simple, The day the letter arrives, the illicit "lover" is discovered dead, possibly victim of a hit and run,
Now two detectives are on the case but ultimately it's Alisa whose heart is on the line, in more ways then she can even understand.
A Thin Film of Lies is a fantastic book!
In all the reading I do I certainly give plenty of positive reviews, but seriously, this goes beyond a good book.
I thoroughly recommend snagging a copy, You can purchase online at Amazon,
You can also try before you buy: Sample Chapter PDF,
