The music is dated and cheesy for this modern production, but everything else is steller, Not sure what to think of this, This was presented in,hour episodes by the BBC, Is it actually a book I'm not sure, It sounds like it's just an audio play, Anyway, it seemed a bit overly fictionalized for my taste, Some of the characters were overthetop like his mother, but I can see why the writer would do that for this type of tale.
Alexander's life reads like fiction, it's so incredible, I read a book on the life of Alexander many years ago forgotten which one, unfortunately that I remember with more enjoyment, A THRILLING SIXPART SERIAL ON THE LIFE OF ALEXANDER THE GREAT,

Alexander of Macedon was one of history's greatest ever military commanders, By the time of his death, aged just, he had conquered the entire Persian Empire and was ruler of a vast territory stretching from Greece to the borders of India.
These six episodes tell his extraordinary life story, as reimagined by acclaimed dramatist David Wade,

'The King's Son'BC, Outside the city of Pella in Macedonia, the spirits of Achilles and Patroclus are eagerly awaiting a royal birth, But Alexander's arrival creates friction between King Philip and Queen Olympias,

Alexander is a first rate adaptation of the life of Alexander Macedon, for the generally excellent BBC Radio,
They are involved in some controversy now, but not on the quality of the programs, it regards equal gender pay

Alexander the Great was a bigger than life personage.

His admirable if short life has become the subject of so many stories and legends, some of which are included in this play.

The adaptation has six episodes and a peerless cast, with Brian Cox playing Filip, Alex Jennings, Barry Foster, and Simon Ward,
There are familiar events, such as the one involving the famous horse, who would not accept any rider:

Bucephalus, a splendid companion that would take the invincible army commander to the far corners of the then known Asia

Alexander has a bet with his father, Filip, claiming that he would be able to tame the horse and have it, if he wins.

And indeed, the boy realizes that the fine animal was afraid of his own shadow and so he can sooth and win him over.

As a teenager, he has another eminent exploit, when he meets with the envoys of Athens and Demosthenes,

The latter was in the habit of criticizing and using very harsh words while in Athens, city with tense relations with Filip.

So when they encounter each other, Alexander announces his future stamina, temerity and faces the orator:

If you will speak here like you do in Athens, you will pay

If this has a direct effect on the speaker is not clear, but Demosthenes ran into trouble notwithstanding.

The fact that one of the wisest, best known geniuses of all time, Aristotle became his teacher is well known,

What I found surprising was the difficult ménage a trois that existed in the palace of Filip, with deep animosity between Alexanders parents, but with complicated relations also between the son and his parents.

Both king and queen had a shared worry in regards to the erotic, amorous life of the prince, for he showed very little, if any interest in women.

In the play, Hephaestion plays a crucial role and he is portrayed as the man most loved by the famous conqueror,
Alexander became the Great on account of his superlative war exploits, his bravery, military prowess, resilience, charisma, commanding abilities,

He has some speeches in which he convinces his men to follow him, pointing out that he is covered in scars everywhere, except on his back.

Alexander becomes Iskandar for the Persians with whom he engages in battles, out of which he comes out victorious,

His treatment of the royal family of Darius shows another, gentler side of a man that knows how to show respect and compassion.

Iskandar is also vainglorious and believes his father to be Zeus and at another stage he talks of himself as son of Amun.

His exceptional qualities as military leader, fighter, strategist, king and/or demigod, there are outrageous excesses,
When drunk, he kills one

of his valuable commanders and friends and he executes many enemies and potential opponents, often on a whim.

In his adoption of the gods of Persia and other peoples he has vanquished he proves his wisdom even when he antagonizes his Macedonians.

But he is pushing his soldiers too far, after exhausting campaigns he wants to push beyond their humanly limits,

This is an astonishing narrative, based on historical facts and some legends that has another review here:
