Gain Apprehension And Desire: A Tale Of Pride And Prejudice Narrated By Ola Wegner Conveyed As Interactive EBook
enjoyed the book very much, But I must confess I can't see, no even in a million of years Darcy receiving in his own house the mistress of his cousin.
And the romance of Jane and his former tenant, so improper for that time,
I would give the bookstars, but, these unrealistic things, for the period, killed a little the joy for me.
Lovely!
A great "what if, " I really enjoyed this book, A demonstration of how society started to gradually change,
I recommend it! The intimate moments tended to be somewhat vulgar, but overall a nice and enjoyable story.
some parts were unnecessary Overall, an enjoyable read, I saw a lot of reviewers that were offended by the premarital sex in this book.
Just because of them I am givingstars!
I am not offended whatsoever, these people think that because Jane Austen didnt write sex scenes there was no sex in the regency era.
Let me tell those people that rated this bookyoure a bunch of puritans and hypocrites.
What a bunch of BS! I like this version of Elizabeth Bennet she take a page out of Charlottes character and work with it.
When life gives you lemons you must make lemonade baby, This Pride and Prejudice variation has Elizabeth accepting Darcy's proposal at Hunsford even though she doesn't like him because of a chance encounter with a childhood friend who had fallen on hard times due to the death of her father much like was expected of the Bennet girls with their father's estate entailed.
Elizabeth begins to fall for Darcy regardless, This story takes us through their first year of marriage which is enjoyable,
Darcy and Elizabeth do anticipate their vows so purists beware,
Reread, still holds up, Lovely
Another absolutely lovely variation inspired by author Jane Austens classic novel Pride and Prejudice by Ola Wegner.
I enjoyed it. Entertaining but. .
Synopsis:
En route to Rosings, Elizabeth recognizes a former friend from Hertfordshire whose father died years previous and her and her sister had be left destitute in the hedgerows so to speak.
Lizzy sees she has been reduced to a governess for a typical pompous ton nightmare family, and her younger sister became a mistress.
Seeing how dreadful things turned out for them, contrasted with Charlotte being content with her marriage of security, and adding to that Mr Bennet having been ill with a cold as of recent, she has a reality check: Perhaps marrying for affection and respect when one has no dowry or security is unrealistic amp naive, and may lead to a life of degradation and hardship.
Lizzy:
This epiphany of sorts lead to a more flexible to marriage Lizzy, who is willing to take the next ship out, suitor wise.
So when Darcy proposes she is amenable, He is aware her affections are not equal to his, but he expects to win her over, and for her to sever her connections to her family in trade, the Gardiners.
The Brass Tacks:
A lot of filler stuff and not very cohesive, thematic, or message driven, which is a staple with this author.
Also Darcy was pretty insufferable without his set down, his pride ran rampant, However I can't deny I thought it a great premiss of Lizzy witnessing a sobering reality of woman of her time, I enjoyed Jane's amp the Viscounts sub plots, Mr Bennet being moved to action, and one particular scene of Mrs Bennet comforting Lizzy over her marriage.
It was a nice scene for we got some insight into Mrs Bennet, a more nuanced characterization of her than you are usually treated to in JAFF.
Spice Scale Coquette Cayenne / This book has mature themes and explicit scenes.
Beginning with Elizabeth and Maria traveling to Kent with Mr, Lucas, they encounter a former neighbor who has been reduced to child care by the death of her father.
This has a profound impact on Lizzy and she resolves to marry the next man who proposes.
That man is Fitzwilliam Darcy and she ignores all her beliefs and misgivings and accepts, Then spends the following months learning about her fiance,
This could have been astar book if not for the unnecessary and explicit sex scenes.
Some one cleverer than I once said "I want to like the characters, but not get in bed with them"
The book continues past the wedding, Jane makes a surprising decision and the Darcy's love each other often.
Lovely!
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, Janes story arc was a pleasant surprise, Wickham was true to his roguish character, Just the right mix of passion and romance,
Read it recently. What would happened if something Elizabeth witnesses makes her change her mind about marrying only for love What if she says yes to Mr Darcy, even if he is not reformed
Thats what happens in this story.
Lizzy sees Anne Parker, a childhood friend, being mistreated by the family she is employed by as governess when she is on the way to Kent with Maria Lucas.
This event makes her reconsider the notion of only marrying for love, to not end up like her friend or worse, Amy, the sister that's a viscount's mistress in case of her father's death.
Even if she doesn't regret to have rejected Mr Collins she decides to accept the next proposal she receives from a suitable and respectable man, even if she doesn't feel affection for him.
Enter Mr Darcy's proposal, Elizabeth, in her surprise, decides to accept him, She has reservations but she thinks it can be done, she could do much worse, To her surprise, Mr Darcy is very affectionate and she is very resistant to that at first, but slowly she starts giving in to his affection.
Good thing is that Mr Bennet doesnt accept the proposal of Mr Darcy at once but instead decrees they need to have amonth courtship, and that helps Lizzy learn to appreciate Mr Darcy, and Mr Darcys slow reformation.
He does reform himself but at some point it seems it was only on the surface for what he says, but his actions and attitude toward circumstances in his family and her family show a real reformation.
He is very persistent in his affection and attentions to Elizabeth, and slowly, through his love for her, he starts changing, perhaps not as deeply as it should be but at least he sees things differently and his attitude improves.
There is a "Hunsford moment" to get to that point, but it occurs in Hertfordshire, on a walk Lizzy and Darcy take to Oakham Mount.
She complains to him about all the things that are wrong in his attitude towards her family and his high handedness.
. . it does make an impact,
Mrs Bennet has more sense in this story, she shows a lot of care for Elizabeth and doesn't give in to Darcy at once just because of his money, she's not sure if Lizzy would be happy with a man like that or not, seeing his attitude towards the family.
The epilogue is very nice, Jane has a different, nicer destiny in my opinion, than in canon because Bingley is more spineless than usual and leaves when Jane really needed him.
I would have liked to see more steam between Jane and her man, though, that could make a short story of their own.
Lizzy falls in love with Darcy and Darcy changes for the better,
for the small typos throughout the story, otherwise, I found this story to be one of the best I've read of this author.
Warning for mature content. Recommended! On the way to Hunsford, Elizabeth and Maria Lucas come across an old friend who is working as a governess as her father had recently died.
Unfortunately they see her treated badly, and so when Darcy proposes to Elizabeth she reluctantly accepts.
Darcy seems more in lust than in love and acts as so, though he does gradually change a little from his normal arrogant prideful self.
Only two as I skipped through the sex scenes and rushed the last half.
This was an odd duck, The sexy scenes were awkward and offputting, The
scene right before the epilogue felt so strange and out of place, Who thinks to end a romance with an argument like that The characterization of Darcy and Elizabeth was way off ESPECIALLY that argument at the end, I cringed reading that, it was such the antithesis of who DampE are.
Overall, it was odd, not sexy to the point of being gross, and an unsatisfying read.
Ummmm .
I hardly know how to review this book, There is a pretty good story here, and while I dont mind mature content, some of Darcys actions in that regard were not conducive to Mr.
Darcy, gentleman. I mean checking to see if Elizabeth was still bleeding Really That pretty much ruined the rest for me.
One step too far methinks, Apprehension and Desire starts with Elizabeth and Maria journeying to Kent to visit with Charlotte, On their way there they see a former friend from the neighbourhood reduced to the role of governess due to her father's death and entail of the estate.
This sobering picture of Elizabeth's possible future spurs her to accept the proposal from a very ardent Darcy.
The rest of the story features an unsure Elizabeth, passionate Darcy, sympathetic Mrs, Bennet and a jealous Mr, Bennet. There are many misunderstandings to be had, as well as many reconciliations, It is a more graphic novel when it comes to the amorous scenes, so I wouldn't recommend it for a purist, or someone who likes a clean read.
It didn't bother me, though, and my rating is not effected by it,
I did find that there were some typographical errors and a few spots where there were alternate words, such as he/him, and a few spots where I wasn't sure of the passage of time, or references to events that happened "off scene" but were only casually mentioned.
It caused me a few times to go back to see if I missed something, With another read over with an editor those would be caught,
I was very excited to read this novel, my second of Wegner's, and I was not disappointed! Um, for the majority of the book I hemd and hawd if I was enjoying the book or not.
There was much about D's behavior that was beyond inappropriate and way far from character, Then I got near the end of the whole book, Whatever story had been going on, took a left turn and felt like it was finished by another writer altogether.
Not so much from the writing style, but it felt like the end should belong in another book.
Another reviewer mentioned the love scenes between EampD were vulgar, I concur, On top of that the romantic character near the end of the book behaved in an even more inappropriate manner with Jane.
Seriously, he investigates her crotchless panties, while she is unconscious, and wearing them at the time Dude! Ick!!!.
