Arabella Trunketts father, the High Lord Minister of Urbannia is kidnapped in the middle of a ball and the country of Gandiss is framed for the crime to stop the signing of a peace treaty with Urbannia.
Belle suspects that something else is going on and when she finds a mysterious clue left by her father, she runs off to the rescue of her father.
Belle is an independent business woman, she invented steampowered spinning wheels, I really like steampunk and I like strong female characters so I was enjoying this book a lot.
The writing is really good, The pacing is really good, I was drawn into the mystery and adventure, Belle is reunited with a dashing scoundrel from her past who reminded me of Han Solo, starsStars
Book Monster Guest by Michelle M,
Lara Nance is a newtome author and I can honestly say I will be reading more of her work.
My first thought on finishing this book was "I wonder how long it will be until the next one is out, if it isn't already.
. . " and I'm going to find out as soon as I finish typing this!
I have a tendency to split Steampunk books into two typesbooks that rely heavily on machines amp inventions andthose that use technology to enhance existing plots.
I would put this story into the latter category, even going as far as to say it's a mix of mystery and adventure.
Lady Arabella or Belle is a likeable character, she's a strong woman that stands up for what she believes in even if it means going against societal norms.
She is a nice mix of strength and innocence which gave a refreshing touch to the story.
As we join her on her journey to save her kidnapped father we meet a very diverse and interesting group of characters, there are lots of twists and plenty of action along the way.
The ending sets the scene for the next book perfectly and I can't wait to join them on the next leg of their adventure.
I loved this book, It was go from page one, Packed with adventure and charming characters, it was a fast and enjoyable read, I particularly loved how many fun people Lady Arabella encounters on her adventures, There's a romance between Belle and Rett, pirates, espionage, kidnapping, This book is chock full of excitement and enjoyable from start to finish, Belle is a relatable, strong heroine who kicks butt and never backs down, I also really love her charge Benji, He's a great secondary character and sometimes steals the show when he's on the page, This is the first book in Nance's Steampunk series and I for one, can't wait for book two.
Marvelous adventure.
Steampunk is fascinating, and this story is as good as it gets, Wonderful read. Action, romance, a worldwide chase and lots of bad guys! This novel was my first foray into the steampunk genre.
I even had to look steampunk up to see what it's all about, After reading a detailed entry on Wikipedia, I was a little concerned that I would have a difficult time getting through this novel, but I did not at all.
Revenge of the Mad Scientist was a fast, fun read and I would like to continue the subsequent books to see where this series ends up.
I would recommend this book for a teen audience, The characters were well developed and there was lots of action, As a novice to the steampunk genre, I appreciated the level of detail given to the gadgetry, but it did not overwhelm the story.
I would love to read more in this series and more by this author, Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my review, but the opinions are all my own.
When her father, Sir John Trunkett is about to sign a peace agreement with a neighbouring nation he is kidnapped thrusting the world into political upheaval.
Everyone believes the country of Gandiss to be the culprit but Lady Arabella believes that the nation of Carabarras is at fault.
She will risk everything to save her father, . . and the world as she knows it,
The captain of the airship that she eventually hires is Captain Everett Brockton "Rhett", a man that she has hated for the past eight years.
Placing her trust in him, they travel to far off places where they encounter bad weather, assassins, slave traders and even air pirates.
Ms. Nance has created believable characters that over the course of the book you come to love, Standing firm for what she believes is right, Lady Arabella has just the right mix of strength and fragility.
Rhett carries with him an air of romance and one must wonder, will he get the girl in the end
I was concerned that I wouldn't understand what was happening in the book, not being familiar with the steampunk genre, but that posed no issue.
The book was set in a Victorian like time and Ms, Nance did a wonderful job setting the scene,
The plot held just the right amount of mystery and suspense, Along the way there was room for some fun and even some budding romance, Unexpected twists and sometimes convenient escapes all lead to an excellent story that I would highly recommend.
The ending of the book leads to the opening of the second book in the series, which I can't wait to read.
I wonder where Lady Arabella's adventures will take her next
Lara NanceThe author, Lara Nance has lived in various cities through out the south.
She loves to write in a variety of genres from steampunk to paranormal romance, Throwing in bits of historical fact into her writing, Ms, Nance will take you on a journey like none other,
Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
A rollicking steam punk adventure lies on this book, Nance's alternate world is well thought out and I love that the book includes a map, I'm a sucker for those, I enjoyed the characters. The interplay between the hero Rett and heroine Belle reminded me of the lovehate relationship in Raiders of the Lost Arkthis is a good thing.
As they search for Belle's father in Rett's airship they face slave traders, pirates, a well meaning butler, assassins and a boy genius in the throes of puppy love.
Enjoy this ride. I can't wait to read the next, “Revenge of the Mad Scientist” by Lara Nance is my first real introduction to Steampunk, and I have to say Im sorry I waited this long.
To call this an adventure would be a misnomer its more likeoradventures, one after another, built into a single story.
At a celebratory dance, preparatory to the signing of a new peace treaty between Urbannia and Gandiss, Lady Arabella Trunkett thought to herself how the events of the nexthours would change the fate of their world.
Little could she imagine how right she was, Her father, Sir John Trunkett, well liked and well respected by governments everywhere, was kidnapped right in the middle of the dance, with evidence suggesting it was agents from Gandiss who were responsible.
Thus begins the most incredible series of curves life has ever thrown at anybody, Did Gandiss agents really take Sir John What meant the clue he left behind for his daughter Why did the local constabulary seem so focused on Gandiss as the guilty party What would happen next, since the peace treaty would obviously not be signed
I was fully enamored with Lady Arabella, more familiarly known as Belle, who seemed to have virtually unlimited fiscal resources at her disposal, but an even greater storehouse of wile and wit.
But in the “good luck” end of things, she was working at a deficit,
If you took her fishing, your boat would sink, It seemed almost nothing worked out right for her as first planned, but ultimately she was always successful in finding a “Plan B” that would carry forward.
The characters she surrounded herself with were an eclectic bunch of misfits, but no more loyal companions could be found anywhere.
They loved and adored Belle, and would gladly put their lives on the line for her as they often did.
This book is the first in what I hope will be a long series of steampunk adventures.
Bookis already set up as “Rescue from the Baron”, and is off to a resounding start! I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves steampunk or adventure stories of any kind.
I suspect that if youve never before read any steampunk, this book will make a fan of you, as it has me.
Excellent action adventure!
I received a free copy of this book to review for Reader's Favorites, in exchange for an honest review.
