Experience Peace Is An Offering Penned By Annette LeBox Provided As Text

this lovely little book to a class full of second graders yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed hearing what their offerings of peace would be! A beautiful book families need right now.
Love the inside jacket, and how right off the first page, the characters are participating in the message and are DIVERSE! The art is incredible, though I'm a little unsure of the rhythm of the text.
However, I think if I heard it read I might get it better, I do like the message, there is a hidden/tribute, which I think is reflective of the illustrator's culture.

I like the message of mindfulness and dealing with grief and hardship with skills.
I like how few words are on each page and how each idea is fully realized with the illustrations.
With better rhythm I would have given it more, Gorgeous illustrations of each poem/sentence along with sweet little poems show numerous ways, in verse, of gathering peace.
Here are some favorite lines: "So offer a cookie, Walk away from a fight, Comfort a friend/Through the long, dark night, " Each page shows a scene with children, sometimes with a parent, It's a calming book, one to read with a big sigh, This is an absolute beautiful book, It's simple yet very touching, Kids and adults alike can read this book and have them make them feel more at peace just by reading it.
It teaches that peace can be as simple and easy as being kind to one another.
Peace can be found in a darkest of times, It certainly got me in the feels, Beautiful, BEAUTIFUL book. Gorgeous. Sweet, genuine and heartwarming without being saccharine, A good book to discuss with students about community and belonging to one another, best book ofLovely poetic book fornd grade read aloud, Despite surface simplicity, they thought deeply about the various peace “offerings, ” I plan to have them write a paragraph about what they would offer their family school, neighborhood, city, country, world.
. . to promote peace.

Special note: the page spread with implied reference tois beautifully understated and went over my DCnd graders heads although it did lead to a lively discussion about heroes and their headgear.
For me, that part of the book was especially moving, This picture book explores the concept of peace, It begins with simple examples, ones that are found every day like trips to the beach or giving someone a muffin.
Peace is also mentioned as being gratitude for simple things in life and the book goes on to elaborate those with kisses, walks and food.
The book transitions into questions about support and peace, asking about staying together, drying tears and listening to stories.
It then moves to places you can find peace, whether that is with family or even in the wake of a tragedy or a loss.
It finishes with a few ideas of how children can create peace themselves, by doing things like walking away from a fight or comforting a friend.

LeBox does so much more than a list of peaceful ideas here, Instead she moves from one stage to the next, showing not only what peace is but how it can be created and strengthened.
Readers will appreciate the focus on small and everyday things that either are peaceful or bring peace.
Because of that focus, children will not only understand peace as a larger concept from this book but feel empowered to create it themselves.

Graegins pencil, watercolor and digital illustrations have children and families from various backgrounds mixed together.
Readers can follow the boy with the cast on his arm from the very first page through the book.
While he may not appear on all of the pages, he creates a feel of a larger story happening as peace is explored.

A strong and interesting look at peace and the way its created, this book is both inspiring and peaceful.
Appropriate for ages. A warm, comforting poem about finding peace in a community of neighbors

Peace is an offering.

A muffin or a peach,
A birthday invitation.
A trip to the beach,

Join this group of neighborhood children as they find love in everyday thingsin sunlight shining through the leaves and cookies shared with friendsand learn that peace is all around, if you just look for it.
With rhyming verse and soft illustrations, this book will help families and teachers look for the light moments when tragedy strikes and remind readers of the calm and happiness they find in their own community every day.
"Peace is holding on to another,
Peace is the words you say to a brother,
'Will you stay with me
Will you be my friend
Will you listen to my story
till the very end'

Peace is a joining, not a pulling apart.

It's the courage to bear a wounded heart,
It's a safe place to live,
It's the freedom from fear, "

I saw a huge sign outside Mercy High School here in Baltimore yesterday that said "I promise to listen to your story" with the hashtag ONEBALTIMORE and I feel like that is the answer.

Here in Baltimore, most rich and even middleclass people have little contact with poor people.
Suburbanites whine on Facebook about their sports consumption being inconvenienced, while young men downtown SCREAM to make their stories heard.
We've been dealing with media who already have a story that they want to tell, and we've seen Baltimoreans correcting them again and again.

And now that charges have been brought against the police officers charged with protecting the safety of our city, I am afraid that more and more people are going to stop up their ears and refuse to hear the other side of the story.

"I promise to listen to your story" it is both the most and the least that we should expect from each other.
I recommend this book for young children as a way to enter into a conversation about community, human connection, and peace.
Written in English and Spanish, this is a mindful lesson on how simple it is to live peacefully, with nature, humanity, oneself.
Children of innocence, purity, being the givers they naturally are, If we all were but to practice these easy actions, just imagine, . .
Written after and with a bowed head to/, it gives homage and brings up bullying, compassion to loneliness, diversity, and so much more in light lines, charming illustrations, and love.
I reviewed this book as it is part of set of picture books nominated for theMaryland Black Eyed Susan Award.
I did not receive this book for free as part of my involvement,

What an absolutely lovely book! Written in verse, this book tells the story of what peace can and should be without coming across as preachy or deliberate.

I would recommend this book for primary and elementary grades for the following purposes:

.
Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
. Read/response journals or writing samples,
. Poetry Unit

This really depicts peace as a communal and active thing, A lot of it is about offering peace to others or how we can find peace with others.

The book includes some different settings mostly cityish, though, and there's a lot of racial diversity in the families and kids depicted.

It talks a bit about peace during periods of sorrow or grief there's a spread referencing the Twin Towers and another page about death of a friend or relative, but there's not much about peace when we're angry or afraid.
A beautiful book that uses clean, evocative language to evoke various feelings of peace, Would sit nicely alongside THE QUIET BOOK A fantastic book for our times, Wonderful
for talking to children about the peace that begins at home and inside ourselves.
Beautiful illustrations compliment the text perfectly, Disclaimer I was sent a copy of this book by the author for an honest review

I've always enjoyed Annette's writing and this simple children's book is an example of something everyone should read.
The message is simple yet holds so much more, Today's world is chaotic and intense, There is knowledge and information pummeling us daily, The beauty found in simple pleasures "a muffin or a peach" is lost in a society that puts more value on expensive toys like iPhones and designer clothing.

Anyone can relate to this poem, The language is easy for a child to understand but the message is one for both children and adults.
And the illustrations were beautiful,

This book is like a little manual for life, It's
Experience Peace Is An Offering Penned By Annette LeBox Provided As Text
wonderful. appreciation can help to push away darkness, Communities can come together and take care of one another, Friends can be there when you need them, Peace can be hard to find sometimes, but its always there, It can always be found and offered, The gentle nature of the text and the illustrations will lull little ones, making this an excellent bedtime book.

Thoughts from ayearold: My son is a very active boy who likes loud, funny stories, but this gentle one grabs his attention every time.
He loves finding the little details in the pictures, and the text lulls him and brings him snuggled in close to me.
Its quickly becoming a favorite bedtime story in our house, and as he gets older it might serve as a good conversation starter as well.

This review originally appeared on ABookandaHug, com This is an exceptional book about being kind, empathetic, giving, and how peace can change us all.
A nonreligious book about peace, I think it does a good job of expressing very simply that peace is more than just the absence of war/fighting.
It means inclusion and reaching out to others, Peace is an active thing,

I wish that there were more about nonpeaceful emotions that we have and how to deal with them.
It does say that "Peace is the words that you say to your brother, " However, it doesn't say anything about trying to control yourself when you're sad or mad and actively trying not to hurt people.

Note that there is a page on the falling of the twin towers, It shows a family looking across the water at the current NYC skyline, so it's not graphic at all.
Yet another book I wish everyone could read at least once, It's quiet, gentle, and carries a beautiful message without beating you over the head, Illustrations are filled with love and sweet details,

I'll probably buy a copy to own at some point, .
