Obviously. The book still follows closely Doyle's antics the tedious Salt Lake Valley part of A Study in Scarlet is there and style, John Watson's point of view and the cases Doyle created.
This is really an adaptation and compendium, it you please of Doyle's Holmes stories from A Study in Scarlet to The Final Problem.
Townsend hasn't used every case in the books my memory might fail here, but kept the timeline, so you might guess where the book ends.
The cases are apparent and using their original or slightly adapted title, but all written as erotica,

The characters of Holmes and Watson are very much like ACD's characters, but with enormous sexual overdrive, Mycroft, Mrs. Hudson, Lestrade, "Mary Morstan" and lots of other familiar characters are there, adapted into gay fantasy of Victorian London, The overall tone is grim: rape, hints of incest and sexual violence recurring

The character of Mary does a fairly humorous stunt in the background and Moriarty is "the Caligula of London, the Napoleon of crime", but they are the rare occasions of lighter tone.

Would I recommend this For audiences already familiar with this kind of "original" erotica or early fan fiction, surely.
The erotica is well written and fairly arousing, The versions of wellknown ACD characters were interesting, even if nothing exceptional comes along, For readers who want to know the whole spectrum of different Sherlock Holmes adaptations, this might be a must to read.
But for a modern lighter, fluffier fan fic, or slash reader, this might be too grim, too something else they're accustomed to.



Naturally Your Mileage Might Vary, but at least most of johnlock is really monogamous and this is far away from "finding the true and only partner of your life", even if Sherlock's letter on Reichenbach Falls was also here heartsplittingly aching.
