rather touching, poignant story, At a time when color mattered to many it didn't to the couple, All in all there's pretty good love story, There's also a good look at societal beliefs of the time, This book captivated me from the first chapter! The story is completely different from what you're used to seeing out of a romance from a postCivil War setting.
This is a story about love and overcoming differences in a time when differences are shunned,
Unlike many stories, this one was told from the perspectives of all of the characters involved, I really enjoyed this because it allowed me to see into the thoughts of each character as the events were taking place, Amanda Marie makes it very easy for readers to know who is speaking and thinking though so there's no way you can get confused.
This
was a very sweet historical romance! It's about love, not physicality, I could easily see this being made into a movie, It was a truly excellent read! I take my Kindle with me to work and read on my lunch break, I can't tell you how many times over the past few days reading this book I wanted my lunch break to be longer so I could keep reading! I look forward to reading more of Amanda Marie's novels! Virginia would love to know more about her Nanas great grandparents and, after the funeral, she finally finds a clue.
But where is this strange town in Oregon, with a name thats missing from the map After a slow start, she finds out, and readers are taken into the past, where farmers follow the Oregon trail and slaves flee the South, where Indian and white live uneasily together, and where education might be the beginning of understanding.
Trials of travel and homesteading, sickness and healing, love and prejudice all have their place in author Amanda Maries long historical romance.
Details of clothing, lifestyle and dreams ring pleasingly true, though the wedding vows and sermons seemed seriously long! Its a world where scientific and technological achievements are just beginning to change the shape of life, and where love might prove more colorblind than blind.
Different lead characters take the stage, and their voices are convincingly and sympathetically rendered, Nice lessons are woven into sermon and internal dialog, nice symbolism into the exchange of rings, and nice honesty into the valiant force of freedom.
Etched in history is a long historical romance firmly anchored in US history and Oregon life,
Disclosure: I found it on a deal and I offer my honest review,
