Win Leftism Revisited: From De Sade And Marx To Hitler And Pol Pot Chronicled By Erik Von Kuehnelt-Leddihn Paper Copy
bit of a nut, but I think we have to love him 'cause he's clearly an ally, He needs an editor. One of my favorite books on politics, The narrative is far removed from the common history that is often taught,
The redefinition of liberalism with regard to Europe is helpful, Moreover, the descriptions of the World Wars contain insider accounts with many interesting interpretations of dramatic events in history, In particular, the demonization of Wilson's foreign policy,
Leddihn is liberal monarchist, He sees no contradiction with the traditional aristocratic structure of Europe or capitalist understandings of freedom, He presents a very important version of history that is fundamentally Medieval,
Leddihn's economic understanding is aligned with Ludwig von Mises or Wilhelm Roepke, I think that he is a deeper writer than either however, A polymath of the Austrain nobility, Leddihin was an adviser for the deposed Karl von Habsburg during the Cold War period.
Europe is not easy to understand beyond sophistry without first seeing the ancient institutions of the Old World in light of the traditional monarchist worldview.
One of the more important points is that the "throne and altar" or even "blood and soil" traditions of European history remain essentially allied with the freedom of the individual, whereas it is often believed otherwise in contemporary political thought adhering to unreflective democratic dogmatism.
misanthropic protheocrat, proaristocrat author basically argues that NSDAP was leftwing because, yaknow, the party name has "socialist" in it, Good job! I always had a lurking suspicion that American politics was conducted in an extremely narrow and shallow channel, but it wasn't until I read this masterpiece that it "clicked.
" In the United Statesand indeed throughout the Westboth the "conservative" and "liberal" parties are wholly committed to Enlightenment ideals coming out of the French Revolution.
All of the sturm und drang boils down to an intramural conflict between factions of a sputtering revolution, one side gradualist and the other accelerationist.
It's impossible to do justice to this treatise in a review, Whether you agree with Professor von KuehnneltLeddihn or not, it should be essential reading for anyone interested in the deep end of the sociopolitical pool.
This is an interesting book in which the author explains in detail the leftist origins of National Socialism and Communism, He metodically dissects the mentality of the left, while basically tracking everything he sees as left, back to the French Revolution and its consequences.
On the other hand, he supported the monarchy as the only true "rightist" government, Claiming that monarchy provides more personal liberty than democracy, His entire philosophy rests on the foundation of a transcendent worldview that sees God as the ultimate authority,
This book is basically a wakeup call against democracy, revealing the fact that it's an imperfect system and that is full of flaws.
Excellent. A pure masterpiece. Whiny Fascist tries poorly to paint extremeright systems like Bolshevism and Nazism as leftist, Why Because they're "democratic". Hmm, no. They're totalitarian autocracies. Completely braindead. Tired of American media feeding you one sided political nonsense
Well, i certainly was, So, i researched some older historians post WWto try and get a better perspective on what led to our current moment.
After all, history always repeats itself in new ways,
Although lost to the past, the works of the author have had a huge impact on many in the West in both defining Left and Right, while bringing a solid historical knowledge of European history.
Leftism Revisited is and edition of his previous work, wherein he traces modern leftist movements back to the French Revolution De Sade specifically and show how the modern pure Democracy movement spread from a desire to have mob rule at the expense of the minority.
Pure, unfiltered Democracy can only be profitable for human flourishing if the depravity of mens hearts is stripped away, As this will not happen until thend coming of Christ, it ceases to be a legitimate form of government that Christians can advocate for.
Advocating for pure democracy is advocation for the ideology of depravity, Dont believe me In,of the German public voted to make Hitler Chancellor, How about Abraham Lincoln Without our electoral collage and representation, slavery would have continued in the United States an untold number of years,
This is an excellent book and well worth your time to read a European perspective on American and International politics.
Brilliant but, I am afraid, with some flaws and biases, I am the type to consider that no criticism of the political left is too harsh, but the author is in the habit of making essentialistic claims about a lot of things he explains the appeal of Hitler to the german lutherans by saying that Luther had an authoritative” mind.
The facts are straight, no omission that I am aware of and if you ignore the essentialistic claims he does not try look ”objective” anyway, it is a very good and instructive read, full of erudition, taste and wisdom.
KL provides the reader with a treasure trove of arcana about European politics and history of the modern era, which compensates for his weaknesses primarily, his belief that constitutional monarchies and free markets are the highest achievements humanity has made.
See also The Intelligent American's Guide to Europe, by the same author, This is a result of deep research of a bright and extremely knowledgeable mind,
Beyond its, bibliographic references, the author has vast inperson experience he was born, in Austria, This book will be mindblowing for most of those who believe blindly in college history books and teachers,
Can't wait to dive into his other related book "Liberty amp Equality", “For the average person, all problems date to World War II for the more informed, to World War I for the genuine historian, to the French Revolution.
”
Here's the argument at the heart of this book, The author claims that since the french revolution, the modern world has been mired in constant accelerating leftism, and with catastrophic results.
All political development since the french revolution is leftist, Democracy is leftist, and thus fascism and nazism are leftist, True rightism is monarchy and religion, He does not hide his biases nor his contempt for leftist thought, which makes for funny and biting critiscisms, The man knows A LOT about european political history and he jams tidbits and anecdotes wherever he can, be it asides in the text or footnotes.
This gives to the work a sort of meandering course, one which an editor could have smoothed out in places,
Since this type of perspective has become so declassé, it is never spoken of, One has to dig deep to find a book like this, But when found, it can open up a whole new arena of thinking about the political, Which is why despite the flaws, its essential reading,
To me, the arguments against democracy were highligts of this book, There are funny takes on marxism and the totalitarian the state in modern democracies, Maybe I will post some fav quotes later on,
The author traces and critiques the development of leftism over the past six hundred or so years, For those curious about his definition of leftism, he tries to define it at the back of the book, Although I dont agree completely with his definition of leftism, I do agree with the majority of his definition and with his critic of leftism as a virulent secularized ideology that started from the distortion of a few Christian tenets.
The author believes leftism emerged around the time of the Reformation among some small radicalized Christian sects, By the time the French Revolution rolled around, the ideological descendants of these sects had rejected religion, especially Christianity, and assumed a messianic character in their developing ideologies.
They preached utopianism, constant revolution through the uprooting of all forms of tradition, and freedom below the belt, Radical egalitarianism was their rallying cry and any atrocity committed was justified in getting to the secular promised land, Radical egalitarians claim to be driven by justice and love, However, in truth, they are often driven by anger, hatred, envy, and resentment, From the murderous drivers of the French Revolution, to the perversions of Marquis de Sade and modern pornographers, to the Russian and NAZI National Socialists Revolutions, to Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge, through the violence and sexual rebellion unleashed by these variant strains of leftism, the author documents the lefts unsavory history of creating hell on earth.
What does the author recommend replace the dominance of leftist thought in Western Culture Ordered liberalism, transcendent Christianity, and a belief that tradition has value.
Highly recommended! Erik Maria Ritter von Kuehnelt Leddihn was an Austrian Catholic nobleman and socio political theorist, Describing himself as an extreme conservative arch liberal or extreme liberal, Kuehnelt Leddihn often argued that majority rule in democracies is a threat to individual liberties, and
declared himself a monarchist and an enemy of all forms of totalitarianism although he also supported what he defined as non democratic republics such as Switzerland and the early United States as originally intended in its constitution.
