Grab Your Edition Thunder Over The Reich: Flying The Luftwaffes He162 Jet Fighter Imagined By Wolfgang Wollenweber Accessible Via Document
well written tale of a Luftwaffe pilot rising from fledgling to accomplished pilot, flying the first jets.
I am surprised to see nobody reviewed this book already, Let me first say I only read memoirs from soldiers of the German army and this is my first review.
This is the second book about the Luftwaffe, the first one I read was "I flew for the Führer", I like this one much better! The other book is pretty dry, merely a logbook.
It's about a fighterbomber pilot who flew the Me, we follow him in the North, after that, he gets to fly he Heinkel, the Volksjäger.
What I like about this book is the way it is told, you walk with the pilot through his daily life.
And it's not just about flying, he also tells numerous anecdotes from the base, visiting cities, drinking with buddies in the officer's mess, etc etc.
. . Boy, what
a different life than on the Eastern front!!!
The book also has a lot of pictures, from where he was, the pictures help you create a sharper image of the world these guys lived in.
The only negative point for me was that it was not a FWor a BF, but the way the story is told, made it all good! As I said earlier, this is not just a log book.
And you're still in the cockpit with the pilot himself!
I recommend this one, more than "I flew for the Führer".
Up next: Stuka Pilot Hans Ulrich Rudel, This vividly told story from one of Germany's most experienced jet pilots provides an insider's view of not only the revolutionary Heinkel Hejet fighter, but also about the changing fortunes of the Luftwaffe from the happy hunting on the Russian front to its final disintegration defending the German homeland.
