nice to have these when you are in a slump Note: I read through these prompts, While reading this book, I didn't actually write with them, Different things inspire different people, For me, this book had a decent amount of inspiring prompts, a lot of okay ones, and a few offensive/inappropriate ones, However, another person could find allof these incredibly inspiring, It definitely had some good prompts that I would like to work with though, I liked plenty of these prompts, but there wasn't anything mindblowing here, Great to use if you are in a pinch for a prompt although some are a real stretch for middle school
writers, Plenty of writing prompts to get you started on what ever project you have in mind, Writer's block I used to tell people I never get it, Welllll, maybe I've had it a littletiny bit, I'm a big advocate of writing prompts, I used to tweet them, I used to bulk text to friends, I even had a writing prompt writer's group at one point, What Ryan Kinder has done here is put together a vast network of prompts to get those juices flowing, If you're a fan of fantasy, dystopian, apocalyptic you might consider proposing to the book, but even if you're not there is a broad enough spectrum of prompts that you'll be writing away in no time.
I am glad I snatched this ebook when I saw it, I feel any writer, beginner or not, may find this a useful tool to the trade, The book is easy to follow, the author does not talk down to you or have that "I am smarter tone" which some nonfiction works have, This put me at ease and more willing to see what tips the author did have,
I have been a writer of poetry and short tales for my own enjoyment for years now, Lately, I have been attempting to build on that to see if I can put together something of novel length, That dreaded term "hitting the wall" I totally get what all the other writers mean now! It can happen at the worst moments, can last for days, Productive, THAT is not! Now you see my original interest in this book, I am happy to report that even while reading sections, portions of the dreaded wall came down! It is like I suddenly saw a window that had not been there before.
Very cool feeling! :
What makes Mr, Kinder's book neat is the many avenues for thought he suggests, I think now matter what genre you write in, even if there is not an ACTUAL prompt listed to suit your theme, you learn how to ask yourself the right questions.
You learn that the key is just to write, no matter how crazy or nonsensical the idea, Bottom line, I find the book to be encouragement, So big thanks to Mr, Kinder for this one! This is a very handy teaching tool, I teach remedial English in college and the wide variety of well thought prompts is refreshing, I enjoy writing as well, and these helped me get some ideas for some short stories of my own, I am going to recommend this to my colleagues to use in their classes as well, Wonderful resource to get you writing I'm sure I will use many of these suggestions in years to come, A helpful book. I loved the different kinds of prompts the book presented, I had a choice of so many different prompts that I was able to always find one that for my creative juices flowing so to speak, If you're looking for something to help escape a writing slump definitely grab a copy, I really enjoyed the first part of the book that was more writing exercises as opposed to just prompts This is definitely going to be part of my English classes this year.
Fun and challenging ideas and lots of flexibility, This book promises, awesome prompts and that's pretty well what it delivers, There is little actual text, most of the book consisting of the prompts themselves, but what there is is well and sensibly written, and the uses of the various types of prompts are clearly explained, without any hint of the patronising tone that often mars writers' toolbooks.
These prompts can be used to provide an easy and fun start for the novice writer, or for a 'writer' who imagines himself to be suffering from socalled 'writer's block'.
For the developing writer, or one who wishes to work on a particular skill, such as dialogue or visual description, they will be invaluable,
Even for the seasoned writer, this book is a useful item to have in the toolbox, The section on 'rippers' which I call elements is beautifully explained and any writer, particularly one working on short fiction, can benefit incalculably from this concept, which of course can be used in an almot infinite variety of ways.
For less serious use, there's the potential for fun party games, and with a little thought, even a drinking game could be constructed around the drabble prompts,
There are a few typos, and one or two of the prompts are repeated, but overall the quality is excellent and the book is well organised and presented.
I add it to the toolkit section of my library with great pleasure, A really nice book for all those who were lazy to write but wanted to write and their excuse for not writing was a lack of inspiration for a plot idea.
The book is even good for that amateur who wants to start writing but facing 'startup' issues,
This book gives you a thousand quite literally prompts, . which can act as a plot line or a starting point for a short or a long story, You could potentially write extremely short flashfiction, a short story, a novella or even a full length novel using those ideas,
You can basically start small and go large at your own pace, . .
Now you cant complain that you are not able to identify a nice plot line or line of thought to write with, . . This was a fun little book to read, I laughed, I got goose bumps, I said ohhh, The ideas were truly brilliant and I will mine ideas for my teaching from here for a long time, You don't have to be looking for writing ideas to enjoy this book it is just stuffed with little one liners that leave open a world of possibilities, You wake and hear footsteps on the stairs, you live alone, You live in a world where humans are no longer at the top of the food chain, You wake up to discover you are the opposite sex, describe your day, Just a good time and the price was free, The prompts are fairly interesting and engaging but honestly some kind of organization beyond just being numbered would be awesome because a lot are not to my taste, But I guess it makes you have to read through all of them, so, . . maybe bonus points Will be a staple in my English classroom for years to come! In this book I found at least twenty prompts I could adapt and use.AWSOME WRITING PROMPTSRYAN AMDREW KINDER
