Veselá, nenáročná novela na léto, O pohledu na vztahy k jiným a k sobě sama z pohledu Julie, mámy tří dětí, která nikdy nezažila orgasmus.
To je v knize trochu bulvární červenou linkou, nikoliv hloupou ani moc lechtivou,

As premises for books go, this sure was an interesting one.
Julie is married with two kids and has never had an orgasm, She sets about fixing this by buying herself a vibrator with aday orgasm guarantee and locking herself in her bedroom everyday for a week until she makes it happen.


After we glance over the glaring issue of returning a used vibrator afterdays, because surely there has to be a hygiene issue there I will get straight on with my thoughts on this book.


I can't say that it was a bad read, it wasn't, I read it in one sitting in about and hour and a half, and it was good enough to keep my attention for that time.
But as you can imagine, there isn't really a whole lot of substance to keep this kind of story going.


I don't read a lot of 'Humour' books, mainly because the delivery is lost in its translation to the page.
I'm sure if this was a stand up performance by a comedian, there would've been a lot more opportunities to actually laugh.
As it was I didn't find mush of this book to be funny beyond the occasional smirk to myself.
I don't know if some of what is funny was lost in the translation from it's original Norwegian, but to me it lacked in funnies.


My main problem with this book wasn't even it's subject matter, I think that women should be encouraged to talk openly about sex and their sexuality, men certainly do it enough! But my main issue was the narrator.
I'm unsure if she was written to be intentionally unlikable, but I just found that she had a lot of personality traits that to me just made her unlikable.
Not to mention the fact that somewhere deep down I'm worried that she is a little unstable, what with the situation with the road workman and that thing that happened with her dog as a child.


This premise to me had a lot of promise to be laugh out loud funny but to me it was let down by its narrator.
Still, it was a semientertaining way to spend a couple hours and I can't say its a book I will forget easily.

Aarø writes deftly about sexuality, identity, and the medias portrayal of what constitutes “normal, ” Je to karma! To má za to, že jako malá hodila štěně bígla do kanálu!
Od poloviny jsem knihu četla už jen ze škodolibého přání, aby se jí to nepodařilo.

Kniha asi poputuje do knihobudky, jestli se nenajde někdo, kdo by neměl pár hodin nic lepšího na práci.
Hlavní hrdinka mi nebyla sympatická a upřímně sem litovala manžela a vůbec všechny okolo.

Ke knize jsem se dostala na Noci literatury, kde byl čten úryvek z knihy a mě přišlo, že by to mohla být vtipná kniha plná nadhledu.

Tak ne, není to vtipná kniha, Nebo sem prostě jen vtip nepochopila Je se mnou něco v nepořádku
Ne, nebudu teď týden

sedět a googlit, jak se smát vtipným knihám.
Je třeba říct, že svoje světlý momenty to mělo třeba když hlavní hrdinka mluví o Izraeli nebo Hitlerovi ve Finsku, jinými slovy, o všem jiném než o sobě.
Ale jednooký mezi slepými králem, takže asi tak k těm světlým momentům.
I když jsem i kvůli nim uvažovala o dvou, ale v momentě, kdy se přizná, že z čistého rozmaru utopila štěně, tak nemá šanci.
Prostě kráva, která nevzbudí u soudného čtenáře ani kapku sympatií natož soucitu nad jejím životem bez orgasmu.
Pokud by se snad přínos knihy dal vidět v tom, že hovoří o jistém tabu "nemám orgasmus", tlaku společnosti na ženy po dokonalosti po všech stránkách nebo o sebepřijetí, tak ale asi pouze v tom případě, že by to bylo aspoň trochu dobře zpracovaný.
Což bohužel skutečně není otázka je, jestli se v tom nesnažím najít něco, co ani třeba nebylo záměrem.
Jo, a není to ani veselý, ani vtipný ani sebeironický, ani nic, jenom k uzoufání nudný a trapný a jenom těžko se mi chce věřit, že si to našlo cestu na Noc literatury.

P. S. Proč se z norštiny furt překládají takovýhle ptákoviny viz tohle, Sex, smrt a manželství.
