this is a step back again from the more recently published book by this author that I read before.
Characters are monologuing at each other relentlessly, and the time skips and transitions feel particularly jarring, Its all just speechy exposition and info dumps, Any action including the sex scenes reads about as emotionally stimulating as a police report,
But, eh, despite toppy guy being a bit of a jerk initially, at least he is no wannabe dominant, drunk on his power.
Even so, things turn kind of boring the moment the protagonists with utter abruptness go from buddies to life partners.
Not the most interesting read, to be honest, Such a sweet story. Jason stepped up to the plate and agreed to drop out of school to get two jobs in order to take care of his sister, when his dad and stepmom died in a car accident.
Unfortunately, one of his jobs is closing, so he needs to find something else that pays better, When he is offered a job at a club as a server, he isnt sure he should take it.
Zach is the owner of the club and when he sees Jason for the first time, he will do anything to take him home, but Jason continually declines his offers and his money.
Jason drove me crazy, he made Zach jump through so many hoops and never seemed to believe that Zach was in a relationship with him because he wanted to be.
While I can admire being independent and wanting to do things on your own, Jason seemed to take it to the extreme at times.
Zach was pretty cocky in thinking he could get what he wanted, if he just offered enough money, but once he realized he had feelings for Jason he worked hard to show it.
A great book and Ill be interested to see how the series continues, I really liked this book, can't wait for
next one :D ,stars Nice story, but not worth the price I paid for it, .
Didn't anyone proof read or edit this book I feel like I paid top dollar to read the first draft.
But all in all, was a good story with great characters, Great story
Another great start to a series by this Author, There was some crossover with characters from the Indiscreet series, In this story Zach and Jason are perfect for each other, Jason is young, but the sole provider for his baby sister, He meets Zach at the club his friends take him to for his birthday, Zach doesn't do relationships but something about Jason pulls at him and they become friends, which then turns to love.
Well written storyline, characters we will come to love, . . I really enjoy this Author's writing style, Poor reviews. Entertaining, but could have been better executed, Everything was there for a really good book, but the author tended to get carried away with describing things that really didn't add anything to the story.
Despite that, I really did enjoy the book and plan to read the next in the series,
.This story made me happy, sad and extremely HUNGRY, . . LOL. adorableA twist on a few fairy tales, where the evil stepmother turns out to be the evil parents! Where Jason has always been the adult and worked hard.
He has a solid support system of people who love him and have his back, and his and his sisters lives changewhen he meets Zac.
I enjoyed this book. FourStars
This is a very sweet story about families, The families were born into and the ones we make ourselves,
In the first installment of the Sunset Club series, Katt introduces a cast of complicated, intriguing characters.
Her leading men, Jason and Zach are both gorgeous, It is impossible not to love the young, beautiful Jason, buckling under the weight of his responsibilities, And everyone has dreamed of a man like Zach stepping in and making life that little bit easier.
The supporting characters are the strength of this book, Precocious small girls, an elderly neighbour, interfering best friends and a kindly team of soccer players all add depth and colour to what might otherwise be a simple romance.
Im looking forward to the next book in this series and Katt has introduced us to several men Id love to see paired up.
I lowered the star rating because of the number of times Jasons hard luck story was told, retold, and told again.
I understand various characters needed to talk about it, but surely the readers only needed to hear it once
Ultimately, this is a gentle, thoroughly enjoyable romance.
Even though Zach and Jason work in a gay nightclub, Jasons family life remains the focus of the story, and his tiny sister Kitty is always his priority.
I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads,
Sarah Zach uses a terrible pick up line in all of history, Jason knows that isn't what he's looking for, But suddenly Zach is taking a whole new tack in his life, He and Jason build a friendship but they finally come clean on their feelings, But getting together seems to be easy part, It was so much fun to see these two men build their family and make something wonderful out of their life together.
When I read the blurb for You In My Arms, I got a Cinderfella feel of sorts, and requested the book from its publisher for review.
My thanks to MLR Press for providing a copy of the book,
While the plot/story itself was nice enough, and the two MCs were quite likable, the book was, for the most parts, all tell and no show.
The dialogue runs on an on, punctuation seems optional, and it's full of editfail, I don't know whether the author refused to make changes to the manuscript, or if the editor had an offday, but the writing read like a stream of consciousness.
Punctuation is missing in many, many places, making this a difficult read, and there is a ton of superfluous dialogue, attempting to explain what's going on, which only makes this book fail miserably in making this an enjoyable read.
I liked Jason Monroe, our Cinderfella,, who was dealt a raw deal, before and after his father and stepmother die in a car accident, and he's left as his kid sister's guardian, having to quit college, give up his scholarship, and work two jobs just to keep them afloat.
His character was nicely fleshed out, and came across as a wellliked, respectful and loyal young man, who's doing the best he can.
Zach Montgomery, cast as Prince Charming,, a bar owner with his friend Keith, a former pro football player who blew out his knee before his career could even really begin, initially comes across as a jerk.
He doesn't do relationships, and when he is introduced to Jason at the gay bar he owns, his first comment is "Wanna fuck".
Because Zach doesn't do encores, and he tells Jason so, and is then seriously put out when virginal Jason doesn't take him up on that nice offer.
He gets over his disappointment quickly enough to listen to Jason's story in somewhat abbreviated fashion and to offer the young man a job at the bar, while thinking that this might then lead him to get a go at the "virgin ass" he so admires.
I had a difficult time believing that Jason would tell a person he just met, especially one that offered just a "fuck", his hardships, and how he has to save his pennies to make ends meet.
I mean, he tells Zach over and over, as the book progresses, that he can't do this, and he can't do that.
It became somewhat repetitive hello, where was your editor, and tedious, I got it the first time, there was no need to repeat it,
From the first meeting, their story takes off, with Zach starting to fall for the young man, and Jason returning those feelings but they must fight those, OMG, because a Zach doesn't do relationships, and b Jason isn't a onenight stand, and spending more time together than any boss and employee should.
As time goes by, and Zach sees more of the young man he so callously regarded at first, he changes his mind quite rapidly.
Jason too, feeling safe in that the "fuck" is off the table, begins to trust Zach and opens his heart and his life to Zach more and more.
As I said earlier, the plot was nice, This could have been a good story, I liked the supporting characters, Bobby, Keith and Mrs, Schwartz, Bobby's parents all of them more or less cast as Cinderfella's fairy godparents, and Jason's backstory was pretty horrid, once it all came to light.
The plot line with Kitty, Jason'syear old sister, and the terrible health issues was also okay, even though the conclusion to that, with strangers jumping at a chance to help them, felt a bit OTT.
I also didn't quite believe Zach's transformation from manwhore to devoted family man, though it was a nice idea.
It just felt like it came on a bit quick, He just rides in as the Knight In Shining Armor, and it often felt as if he was railroading Jason, with solutions and money and "here's what we'll do", without entertaining the idea that Jason might not want that.
At least Jason has sufficient backbone to stand up for himself when it became too much, though he often let Zach do what Zach wanted.
It's all done with kindness, sure, and Zach obviously does what he does because he cares about Jason and Kitty, but Jason took care of things since he was barely a teenager.
He's been around the block a few times, and while his father and stepmother were evil, horrid people as we learn from NOT Jason, this young man has shown loyalty and a strong will to make sure his little sister is taken care of.
He doesn't need Zach to be his knight, though I could understand that it must have felt good to Jason to no longer carry the burden alone, which may account for how much he lets Zach get away with the "I know what we'll do" attitude.
The sexy times well, considering Jason is a virgin as far as all sex is concerned, I did like that Zach took his time to introduce him to all those fun things.
I liked that he was considerate of his less experienced partner, and that he made it good for him.
Overall,. the story itself was nice, and I liked that there was no real angst between the MCs, no grand misunderstanding, but the lack of editing/proofreading made this a long and tiring read.
I am interested in reading about Bobby and Keith though there was plenty left unsaid in this book, and lots of vibes about their story.
I do hope that if this book gets written, it will be subjected to rigorous editing and proofreading.
A good editor might have done wonders with this one, by making the book more cohesive overall, and tying the pieces together.
I received a free copy of this book from its publisher, A positive review was not promised in return, This dialogue is terrible. You in My Arms made a valiant effort, This is Cinderella for the modern age, Jason who just turnedis an overworked virgin who is raising hisyear old sister after the deaths of his father and step mother.
Jason has wonderful set of friends and they take him to a gay club to celebrate, Bobby his closest friend notices a good looking man at the a bar and tries to set them up for sex.
Zach isand part owner of the bar and doesn't do relationships, His attempts with Jason are shot down, He does however offer Jason a job, He can make better tips and wages at Zach's place, This little book went off the tracks at this point and took awhile to right itself,
Cons Just a Little too Much Cinderella: Jason spends too much time and too many pages telling and retelling Zach how he has to watch his pennies and take care of Kitty.
He doesn't have time for his own dreams, Jason works two jobs, goes without clothes, and eats PBJ to provide for Kitty, He has pride and works to the point of exhaustion, His telling a a person he just met all of his problems just didn't ring true,
We learn that the step mother and dad were truly evil people,
Zach swoops in with his kindness, money and practical solutions solves all of Jason's problems, Not a bad thing but Jason has worked since he wasto help his parents, He is used to taking care of himself and Kitty, He doesn't put up any resistance when Zach saved day,
Pros Just The Right Amount of Cinderella: Jason is self sacrificing and atis mature, hardworking and does everything in his power to protect Kitty.
Jason has his own fairy god people his best friend Bobby, his old soccer team, Bobby's parents, and Edith the babysitter.
They support Jason and love Kitty,
Zach is Prince Charming, Zach is kind and patient, He lost his heart to Jason and Kitty and does everything in his power to make their lives better plus he is hot.
We all need a Zach,
This book doesn't have any angst, Jason and Zach become friends and then lovers, There is never a misunderstanding, I didn't mind it mincing Cinderella, I loved that Disney cartoon but, I hated the repetition, We know Jason is poor and puts everything aside for Kitty, After telling Zach this once, I don't think it needed to be repeated over and over for half the book.
