It's a small book, but filled with big emotions, So much pain, anger, and loneliness, but ends with hope, I cried. I loved it! interesting characters in unique situations, I wish it were a lot longer it ended too soon, Three disparate women struggle through a major transition in their respective lives, They are initially unknown to each other, Their particular struggles connect in the most unusual way but they eventually cross paths and that meeting changes everything, A bit choppy, but I liked it overall, This is the story of three women, who did not know one another, but eventually come together under different circumstances, Dell is a new mother suffering from postpartum depression, Gladys has lived her entire life in her bedroom, so she is like a child in a grown womans body, Then theres Monica. She lost her family at fourteen years old, and has thrown herself into her job, shunning any social contact, Each have their own crisis, but unforeseen circumstances eventually bring them together,
I liked all three characters, They were different, but were also the same, Even though this story dealt with depression, it had its uplifting moments, I normally dont enjoy dark reads, but this one kept me fully engrossed, I love when a story has many different facets, but then everything comes together unexpectedly, Thats how this story was, I enjoyed how climactic it was when it all came together,
The lives of three disparate women, scrutinized in this character study, intersect, bringing unexpected change to each of their lives, Dell is a mother suffering from severe postpartum depression Monica, taking a forced vacation from her insurance company job, recognizes her problem but has no idea of how to address it Gladys has spent her life sequestered in a small apartment shes a child in an elderly womans body.
Each of the women in this narrative have had difficult, damaging childhoods, leaving them scarred and now at a crisis point,
Many readers are likely to find the authors continual, gratuitous use of unnecessary expletives and crude language to be particularly offputting,
Although each woman faces a moment of decision, the book is more individual, unrelated character studies than it is an interwoven story, Only the thinnest plotline brings the women together and the rushed, uninspiring ending is likely to disappoint,
I received a free copy of this book through the Goodreads First Reads program
I won this book from Goodreads,
This was a nice, quick read, I enjoyed the individual stories and it was quite uplifting and "feel good" at the end, I think it could have potentially been made a bit longer, had some more details and plots added in, but all in all I was happy to have received it and read it.
This is written with several main characters, Each chapter is about a separate woman and her situation I personally don't like stories like this, It makes it to hard to follow the main characters and who and what the story is about, The story may pick up and mix the story line together later on but right now I'm gonna shelf this book to read later Won on a Giveaway.
. . at first , I thought, this is depressing, but as I got to understand each character that changed, . the feelings and emotions will touch you in one way or another, Recommended! Official : The Stars Are Made Of Tears

At one point or another, all of us have likely been operating from a place of dysfunction.
Perhaps it was a tragic situation, a debilitating illness, or something else entirely out of our control, In Kathleen Martins novel, The Stars are Made of Tears, we meet three women in various stages of dysfunction, all needing something more, but none are sure how to get it.
I rated this bookout ofstars,
From the outsiders perspective, young mother Dell has the perfect life, A handsome and adoring husband, a chubbycheeked baby boy, a nice car, and a brick house in the suburbs, But just beneath the surface of this idyllic scene, Dell struggles with severe postpartum depression and wrestles with issues stemming from her fathers abandonment and subsequent harsh treatment by her mother.
Dell wants so badly to be a good wife and mother and be grateful for this life she honestly doesnt feel she deserves, but the depression and accompanying demons keep pulling her into very dark places.
Conversely, Monica knows shes pretty messed up and doesnt think she can ever get any better, and doesnt really want to try either.
After burying her childhood heartbreaks by diligently working for years in the insurance industry, some forced time off gives her unwelcome quiet and space to dig up the bones from her past.
Shes not sure if shes going certifiably insane or actually being visited by the ghost of her longdeceased younger sister, but she just knows she wants the pain to stop.
The third character, Gladys, is quite literally a child locked in the body of an old woman, Her emotional and social growth and development stopped at agedue to her own mothers extreme negligence, Gladys has never known anything outside of the walls of the apartment she shares with her mother, When her living situation changes drastically, Gladys learns how to survive on the streets, She knows shes different from the other people she sees out there, shes just not sure how, and has no idea what to do about it.
When these three unique and very fragile womens lives intersect in a very unexpected way, we see just how deep the hurt goes, how raw the pain feels, and maybe, just maybe, how the healing can start to happen.
Above all, The Stars are Made of Tears is a careful, wellwritten character study of the three central women, Their mental health issues and histories have obviously been wellresearched and Kathleen Martin does an excellent job of showing various mental illnesses in their rawest and truest form.
The scenes where characters are having breakdowns are superbly written and feel very accurate and honest, Unfortunately I was disappointed with the rushed and lackluster ending, I feel the last three pages lacked the care and diligence shown throughout the rest of the book, I almost feel shortchanged that after knowing these three women so well, I only get a glazedover version of what ends up happening to them.
