dog is playing matchmaker, . .

Officer Ben Jacobs and his canine partner, Czar the newest members of the Bullion Police Department should have no problem proving themselves to the citizens and mayor of the small California town.
Both have highly distinguished careers, They've been a team for nine years and they understand each other perfectly,

And then they meet Jill Martin, For Czar, it's love at first sight, Ben can't believe the change in his dog, Czar plays like a puppy with Jill, obeys all her commands, and mopes when she's not around,

Puzzled though Ben is, he can't fault Czar's impeccable choice, Not terrible, but marred by a very strange screwball "twist" that doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the book.
I am reluctant to recommend the book on that criteria alone,

Otherwise, the main characters were likeable enough, and the plot was satisfactory, so I don't regret reading it.
Though I did start to groan a bit every time someone referenced the various pretend gods the heroine peoples her whacky little universe it doesn't bother me on theological grounds, but it did get annoying.
Though the writing was generally fine and engaging, there were one or two places I had to read back because I was confused by a point or detail.

But the main detraction was the "high concept" fantasy in the middle, For me, it was touch and go during this "digression" into the ridiculous, and I almost DNFed, If I had been more pressed for time than I was that afternoon, I would have ditched it, I think.

Nevertheless, I suppose it's nice

to see a romance author be daring enough to try something different this gimmick didn't work for me, personally, but it may for others, and I don't hold it against the writer for trying.
Still, I pick these books according to their series' "nature", and sometimes different isn't what a genre reader is looking for.
If you like your contemporary romance realistic a quality I personally tend to associate with the SuperRomance brand, this book might not be for you.

Your enjoyment of this book will depend on your tolerance for the silliness of the middle chapters.
I only handled it because it didn't last for the rest of the book, though it did seem to linger far too long after the novelty had warn off.
This isn't a book for everyone, so proceed with caution, this book was weirdit started off slow and then seemed to get better and then all at once it got extremely weird!!! This was a really lightHEARTED romance.
The reincarnation, although short lived, of the heroine as a dog, was a bit much even for me.
