enjoy Welcome Books because they are designed for beginning readers, and introduce them to nonfiction texts.
This one in particular teaches about the work of a doctor, I like the book because the students can look at the pictures to help them figure out what some of the tricky words in the text are.
Specifically, the words in bold throughout the text are usually what the picture is mainly about, Not only does the text say what the doctor does, but details are given throughout each page.
For example, on pagethe book teaches how a doctor makes sure one is growing, and on the same page details are given that say a doctor finds out how tall someone is and checks how much they have grown.
To go along with this, a picture is shown of a child next to a scale, depicting how the doctor is using it to measure the child.
I can use this
book in my teaching to teach students how to use the pictures to help them read the text and I can also use the book to teach features of nonfiction.
I can show students the table of contents and how they can turn to a specific page number to read about a topic they are interested in.
Emergentreader nonfiction takes on a whole new face! Consistent print placement, predictable text patterns and strong picture clues make this series ideal for emergent readers.
