My Thoughts:

This is the debut novella by this new author.
I have read this and her second book, I admit that I read book number two first, This first book is actually the better developed and written of the two,
Both books are short sweet reads that are suitable for a younger reading audience or those who prefer sweet romance.

I would have liked even more story and character development in both books, There was an abruptness to the resolution of the story but I find this is often the case with short stories and novellas.

I would be interested in a full length novel written by this budding new author to see if it entails a better developed story.

I would give this short book, offor storyline and characterization, As stated it is a sweet read suitable for a younger audience,
I read and voluntarily reviewed a complimentary digital copy of this title,
This in no way affected my opinion of this title, Turning down the wrong man leads to trouble for Catriona, As she deals with gossip, she runs into Bhaltair, He helps her and she has no idea why or even who he is, When they meet up again, her world spins out of control, Bhaltair is a gentle, accepting man and realizes that he has feelings for Catriona because of her strength and kindness, I loved their excursions and watching their love blossom,

I received this story as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review, I received a free book to review, I am glad it was free, I really tried to give it a chance but after pushing toI could not read anymore, The characters were flat cookie cutter, the bad guy was so obvious and there really was no mystery or conflict, I knew exactly what was going to happen, Even the romance was boring and I like a good clean slow moving romance, This was just not well written and even had some modern phrases in it, and if I saw the word Bedding one more time! Goodness, rape and sex were talked about often.
I recieved this advance Ebook in exchange for my honest review
I liked this short story,it was a fun read and the characters were very likeable,at least most of them.
I do wish it was a tad longer so I could read more into the characters but for a short story it turned out beautiful.
Looking forward to reading most from this author ,
I've received an eArc in exchange for this honest review,

Every time an author is beginning his/her career as a writer and asks me directly to write a review in exchange for the book in this case ebook , Im always happy and apprehensive at the same time.
s are always important for authors, and it wouldnt be the first time an author said the review A or B was almost carved in their memories, be they good or bad.

So, when Fiona McKellar approached me, I accepted the ebook in exchange for an honest review, And, once more, I tried to keep in mind that this was her first book, a book that might, possibly, need to be improved by only one thing experience.
And thats what happened.

The Lairds Son is a light book, too short for my liking and a sweet read in the sense that the English usually describe a romance as “sweet” when it doesnt have erotic scenes or sex in it and this book fits in that category.
For me, a book doesnt have to have sex in it to be good, far from it, Im just pointing this out because its usually something mentionable in a historical romance,

The book had a good premise: a girl who was being unjustly accused and a boy who believed in her and fought for her.
But little more happens.

The main characters are teenagers, so you completely understand why there wasnt a lot of physical contact, But something else should have happened in the book: more adventure, a larger exploration of Bhaltairs uncle accusations A story like this could have had a much better developed villain, and a plot that hooked me up a bit more Sadly, it fell short.

Catriona could have had more expression, more emotion, A girl who had lived her whole life with her father, who was very attached to him, goes to live almost a month in the Lairds house and barely misses him And doesnt even comment on how different their lives are, with the exception of the references about the reception balls The only thing she briefly mentions in how scared she sometimes is of finding Bhaltairs uncle, Aodh, and that he might do something to her.
However, conveniently, he is away for most of the book and the problem of his existence and of the accusation he had maid are solved in a blink of an eye.

Everything just happens too quickly and is sorted out to fast for me, Its not, however, a bad book, It just needs to be a bit more developed and explored, I trust that the author sees this review as an incentive to keep on writing and improve with every book she writes.
I hope, in the future, to be able to read another of Fiona McKellars books and be able to praise her work more and more.
I got this debut novella by Fiona McKellar for free, I wasn't sure what to expect as I had never read anything by her, I just knew that it is set in what my favorite places in the world Scotland and it was a historical romance.

The work is a very sweet romance but not overly sappy, I liked the premise of the false accusations made accusing the young heroine of adultery and witchcraft, I just didn't like that it was only dealt with on the surface, and without much angst, You never really felt the heroine was ever in any harm of being found guilty, And the Laird's brother was painted as a villain but even that was not convincing,

I loved the romance that played out as the son defended the young girl and the small adventures they went on together.
The young couple were also teenagers and there was never even any sexual tension or tension of any kind that came about in their short relationship.

The biggest drawback is everything just happens way too quickly instalove, instamarriage, instaresolution, etc,

The novella is not bad just too underdeveloped for me, It is just on the verge of being great but just missed the mark, Very nice sweet story. A quick read that gave me a task of witchcraft in the highlands, I was not sure when I began this read but then I began to adapt to the strange male names and the lass Catriona.
I really liked her. This would be my first highland book were the male did not win me over first, I enjoyed the writing but was not overly captivate by the whole, A good clean romance. The story is interesting and starts off with a lot of promise, I was expecting a little more intrigue and 'tests' to see if Catriona is a witch, but I enjoyed it anyway.
The romance unfolds slowly and I felt as if I was watching young lovers innocently fall in love, I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review and I am happy that I was able to read it.
I look forward to reading more from this author, A wonderful debut book by Ms, McKellar. I am honored to provide the first review,
Catriona has been accused of being a witch by the Laird's bully of a brother, The Laird orders a full investigation of the accusation and invites Catriona to live on the estate until he rules on the outcome.
While there, she begins a friendship with Bhaltair, the Laird's handsome son, It is destined to become much more,
I enjoyed Ms. McKellar's descriptions of the scenery and her proper use of the language, The characters were engaging and the story flowed nicely,
I look forward to reading more books by Ms, McKellar.

receive an ARC of this book, The choice to read and review it was mine, This is the first book I read written by Fiona McKellar, It's a quick read of a sweet no sex love story, Since novellas are short, there is never enough time for deep character development but I still enjoyed the book very much and will read more books written by this author.
When towns people start avoiding Catorina Baxter she knows who is behind the rumors however, she is not prepared for the lengths he will go to to discredit her and possible cost her her life.
Who knew the word “no” would have such devastating effects Catorinas only hope is convincing the Laird of Clan Gunn of her innocence and with a champion in the Lairds son she may save her life but will she lose her heart

Bhaltair admires the lovely lass who stumbled into him in the market so imagine his surprise when shes accused of witchcraft and by none other than his uncle.
The Laird, his father, commands the lass remain in the castle under his protection until the matter is settled which Bhaltair uses to get to know her and lose a little of his heart.
Believing in her innocence can he convince his father or will his uncle take from him the one girl he has fallen for

I enjoyed this sweet tale by Fiona McKellar and would suggest it to others.
The only thing keeping me from giving it a fivestar rating there were a couple of things left unresolved, That being said it will NOT keep me from reading more by this new author, I HIGHLY look forward to her next book!!

I did receive an ARC of this book, The choice to read and review it was mine,
