on The Someone New

book is about a chipmunk named Jitterbug that enjoys everything staying the same but one day she woke up and felt that something was different At first she could not find out what it was but soon she realized it when she saw a new visitor to their forest It was a snail named Pudding He came to their forest because of a storm that washed him away from his own Jitterbug declared that he couldnt stay there because he was new but once she found out that everyone at one point was new she chased after Pudding She asked him to come back after learning that kindness is stronger than fearThe main theme in this book is to choose love and acceptance over fear because if you do that then you may realize things that you would have never thoughtAfter reading The Someone New I felt surprised by just how relatable it is to our current society Many people seem to follow Jitterbugs view of the world and it was frustrating to read especially once her friends let her know they were all new at one point in time However I was glad to see that Jitterbug could put aside her preconceptions and accept Pudding as a friendI would recommend this book because it promotes acceptance of everyone no matter where they come from or what they are It does a great job of asking children to do what is right even if they are afraid This is a great lesson because it is something that even adults today battle with It makes students reflect on the similarities they share with new people as well because everyone in the forest was new at one point just like Pudding I scooped up The Someone New by Jill Twiss and EG Keller with a smile on my face and an extra skip in my step I couldnt wait to meet the new book from the creative team that brought us A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo“Hello hello hello”Jitterbug Jitterbug overcome her fear and welcome someone new into her world Heres hopingThis cute heartfelt read is warm and welcoming at page one Look at the titles of the books on the floor view spoiler Crazy Rich Acorns and Handmaids Tail HahaVery cute hide spoiler The Someone New is a children's picture book written by Jill Twiss and illustrated by EG Keller which Jitterbug a chipmunk and Pudding a snail that lost his home and was hoping to find a new one with Jitterbug and her friendsTwiss' text is rather simplistic and straightforward It is an allegoric story about immigration and that one should not fear differences but embrace them very apropos to the current political climate Keller's illustrations are playful and expressive and each animal has a distinctive personality and depicts the narrative extremely wellThe premise of the book is rather straightforward Jitterbug the chipmunk isnt fond of change and when she wakes one morning in her cozy den she senses that something was afoot She wanders her verdant meadow neighborhood encountering friends along the way Then Jitterbug does encounter something new Pudding a snail who has been displaced by a storm and is searching for a place to land Nervous that there wont be enough acorns for everyone Jitterbug turns Pudding away only to learn that kindness is stronger than fear and that everyone was new onceAll in all The Someone New is a wonderful commentary against the immigration policies that the current Trump Administration is enforcing and that compassion and kindness is far better than the opposite a wonderful children's book Jitterbug was a somewhat nervous chipmunk who liked things to stay the same When she woke up on one day with the conviction that SOMETHING was new she immediately set out to investigate At first all seemed as usual as she sought out each of her friends But then a stranger a snail named Pudding appeared seeking refuge after his garden home had flooded Jitterbug was all for turning this wanderer away until her friends reminded her of the fact that they too were once newcomersAuthor Jill Twiss and illustrator EG Keller the team behind last year's A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo return to the form in this charming new title An engaging story about learning to accept newcomers and overcome fear of change is paired with absolutely adorable artwork depicting Jitterbug and her woodland friends Given the political aspects of their earlier book it was created as a satire of the picture book created by American Vice President Mike Pence's daughter and wife it's difficult not to read this one as a meditation on our current immigration crisis with a message about taking in and welcoming newcomers That said it has a wider significance as a story about fear of change in general Recommended to young children or chipmunks who get nervous when confronted with new people and situations A nice message and I appreciate how it showed that one can initially feel nervous about change or meeting someone new and then overcome that by putting oneself in the other person's shoes and remembering how things that are now familiar were once new but on the whole it was just a tad too didactic in delivery for my taste I would have preferred a bit show and less tell Cute illustrations Ha I'm obviously verrrryyyy sllooooww when it comes to leaving reviews I also seem to be one of the few people who bought this book even though I don't have children but then again who says that children's books are for children only Obviously when they wrote ageswhat they really meant wasishish right RIIIIIGHTI LOVE this book The story is so meaningful in today's times of fear mongering against anything and anyone new and the illustrations are just so darn perfect all those little details like the acorn tea cup or the backpack that looked a little sad when Pudding was sent away so darling Oh and did I mention there are otters how can you even hesitate to buy this book if there are otters being their usual cutie piesMy recommendation for you is to buy this book buy it multiple times to give it to someone you love be kind and stay curious to discover something or someone new Jitterbug the chipmunk likes her routine She likes her friends and she likes her section of forest just the way it is But someone new arrives A snail named Pudding had to leave their garden due to a fire Jitterbug is afraid of change and says no Then her friends tell her that wasn't very nice and give her some perspective so she finds Pudding and apologizes and invites them to stayYou've read new person in town picture books before Things that set this one apart the snail is a refugee rather than a kid who has to move with their parents the writing and art are very good the characters each have their own personality the story is paced well and teaches genuine empathy the characters all have names instead of just being called Chipmunk and Goose although the most of the names don't make sense for forest animals and this is by the team who did the Marlon Bundo book so the uotes on the back are all from Hollywood personalities What a sweet simple book about what its like being new and how to embrace someone who is new I like the fact that this book tells children that basically everyone was a new person at one point or another and that its okay to change your mind to be wrong I think this book would make a great conversation starter for children and a great one that helps them understand emotionsOne day Jitterbug the chipmunk wakes up and feels there is something different about that day She sees some of her friends but it isnt until she sees Someone New that she realizes that they are what is different about that day Her friends talk with Someone New learning a lot about them while Jitterbug listens Suddenly Jitterbug starts to get worried and scared She feels threatened and begins to worry about herself and the forest and she makes a comment to this new individual Pudding Jitterbug has many uestions about what Pudding says what will happen to the forest if he stays will her friends like Pudding than they like her What will happen if he stays Even though Puddings life was in jeopardy where he lived Jitterbug reaction shocked me but its a reaction that some children have when a new child becomes popular or looks interesting and they feel threatened When Jitterbugs friends try to talk to her about what she did I liked how they approach her They were smart in handling their friends behavior I feel that for younger children this is a cute read but for older children it could also be used as an educational book that could help children understand both sides of what it is like to be a New Person and how to accept someone who is New From Jill Twiss and EG Keller the author and illustrator team behind theNew York Times bestselling picture book John Oliver Presents A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo comes The Someone New a fresh and timely story about how it feels when someone new comes knocking at your door Jitterbug the chipmunk likes it when things stay the same So when one day Pudding the snail comes into her woods Jitterbug worries that everything will be different What if Pudding spoils everything What if theres no room for JitterbugWith the help of her friends can Jitterbug welcome the newcomer and learn that kindness is stronger than fear This book is a little less directly political than Marlon Bundo There is no Orange Skull or Pence figure But there the title and plot suggest a look at immigration but it can eually be applied to being the new kid in school Jitterbug the chipmunk is nervous when a new animal arrives in the forest That would be Pudding the Snail who seems to be moving because of climate change Jitterbug's friends point out some things and learning ensues The illustrations are lovely There are little
